Chargeflow announced an $11 million seed round led by OpenView Venture Partners, according to a TechCrunch report published August 8, 2023. The report identified the company as a merchant-facing fintech that uses machine learning to prepare responses to payment-card chargeback disputes, with human experts reviewing those responses before submission.
Why the raise is also described as $14 million
The $11 million figure is the newly announced seed round, not the company’s total reported funding. TechCrunch said Chargeflow had closed an earlier, previously undisclosed $3 million seed round several months before. Including that earlier financing, the report put the company’s total raised at $14 million.

The distinction matters because headlines and funding summaries can use either the amount of a single round or the cumulative amount raised. In this case, OpenView Venture Partners led the $11 million round; the $14 million figure combines it with the earlier $3 million.
What Chargeflow does
Chargeflow’s software is designed for merchants dealing with chargebacks: payment disputes that require a merchant to respond with relevant information. Rather than sell a credit card to consumers, the company provides merchants with a workflow for assembling and submitting dispute responses.

As described in the 2023 report, the system connects with e-commerce platforms, payment service providers and related tools to match a dispute with the merchant’s order data. It then checks the requirements associated with the chargeback code and uses templates to generate a response and supporting evidence for the relevant bank or card company.
The process was not described as fully hands-off automation. TechCrunch reported that human experts reviewed generated responses before submission. That review step is part of the product’s reported workflow, alongside the software’s data matching and evidence preparation.

How the founders arrived at the product
Brothers Ariel Chen and Avia Chen launched Chargeflow in 2021. They had previously co-founded Babe Cosmetics. In an email to TechCrunch, they said the cosmetics business encountered a significant chargeback problem despite thriving. The founders said their e-commerce, technology and fintech experience led them to look for a solution, but they could not find one that met their needs.
The founders’ account offers the company’s rationale for building the service: chargeback responses involve transaction records and requirements that vary by dispute code, creating work that they believed could be systematized. The report describes the product’s approach, but does not provide independent performance data showing how often merchants win disputes or how much time or money the service saves.

How Chargeflow said it charged merchants
The founders told TechCrunch that merchants paid based on successful recovery of disputes in their favor. That is a description of the company’s pricing model at the time of the 2023 report, not confirmation of its current prices, contract terms or availability.
For a merchant evaluating a dispute service, the payment model is only one consideration. The report’s description points to other practical questions: which commerce and payment systems a provider connects to, what dispute types it handles, how evidence is generated, and whether a person reviews submissions. TechCrunch did not provide a detailed comparison of providers on those measures.

What the funding was intended to support
Chargeflow said it planned to use the proceeds to develop its technology, expand in the United States and hire. The report put the company at roughly 40 employees at that time and said it aimed to double its headcount to 80 by the end of 2023. That was a stated target, not a verified account of whether the hiring goal was reached.
