On July 26, 2023, Channel 1, Inc. announced a planned global news network that would combine real and generated imagery, video, and presenters. The company said AI would help deliver news in multiple languages, and described its virtual anchors as having generated identities and personalities—not simply as talking avatars. How the proposed news process was supposed to work
In its introductory video, Channel 1 said it would assemble journalism from trusted sources rather than have a computer invent reports about events that did not happen. The company said human editors and producers would check stories for accuracy and clarity, and that it would label visuals when AI added context or altered a depiction of a real event. Is Channel 1’s news service available?
The available materials do not establish that the planned consumer network, streaming channel, or personalized app launched. The current Channel 1 website describes the business as “Intelligent Infrastructure for the Future of Media,” with Prism presented as a video-production platform, Globodex as an information-structuring or intelligence layer, and Project Exo as a future personalized video stream. Who is accountable for errors?
A synthetic anchor can change how a story is presented, but viewers still need to know who is responsible for reporting, review, and corrections. Channel 1 described human review and source attribution as safeguards. The cited materials do not demonstrate their effectiveness or specify how corrections would work in a deployed service.
Does personalization broaden access or narrow what viewers see?
Channel 1’s proposal included personalized news, and Axios characterized the digital anchors as customizable to viewers’ political slant. That raises a central editorial question: tailoring may make coverage feel more relevant, but it can also limit exposure to different viewpoints or stories. - What viewers can verify: Are source citations and labels for synthetic or altered media visible and easy to follow?
