ChangeTower and Distill.io both monitor selected webpage content and send change alerts; neither is an across-the-board winner. The practical difference is how checks run: ChangeTower describes service-hosted monitoring, while Distill offers both cloud checks and local checks that depend on your browser or app and device staying available. Choose by the pages you need to watch, how often they must be checked, and where alerts need to go.
How monitoring works: cloud versus local
ChangeTower’s vendor documentation describes scheduled checks that load pages in a real browser. Its browser extension can help set up monitors, but the service performs the monitoring. ChangeTower says a check waits for the page to render, including content loaded by scripts or APIs, and recorded user actions can sign in, dismiss banners, or select a region before checking. It also warns that a site that outright blocks automated traffic cannot be monitored. ChangeTower FAQ
Distill makes the execution choice explicit. A local monitor runs in a browser or app on your device, so that device and browser/app must be available for checks. A cloud monitor runs on Distill’s servers and can continue while your device is off. Distill: What is Distill?

- Prefer unattended monitoring: compare cloud plans, quotas, and schedules. ChangeTower’s described model is service-hosted; Distill offers cloud monitoring.
- Prefer checks on your own device: Distill’s local mode may fit, provided the device and browser/app remain open.
- Need a protected or interactive page: test the exact sign-in flow and page state. ChangeTower describes recorded actions; Distill lists macros. Neither capability guarantees that every protected site will work.
Targeting changes without noisy alerts
Both services support watching selected content rather than treating every page change as equally important. That matters on pages where prices, inventory, timestamps, ads, or recommendations change frequently but are not the signal you care about.
ChangeTower targeting
ChangeTower lists monitoring page content, selective sections or elements, keywords appearing or disappearing, and AI-assisted natural-language monitoring criteria. It also describes recorded interactions for reaching the relevant page state. Feature availability can depend on the plan, so check the live ChangeTower pricing page before relying on a particular option.

Distill targeting
Distill lists visual selection and more technical controls including CSS, XPath, regular expressions, and JavaScript customization. It also supports single and compound alert conditions. Those controls can help isolate a field or filter out irrelevant changes, but the right selector depends on the target page’s structure. Distill features
For either service, start with a representative page and watch the exact element that answers your question—for example, a product’s availability text rather than the whole page. Check the resulting alert history for false positives before depending on it for a deadline or operational decision; the vendors’ feature descriptions do not establish comparative accuracy rates.
Check intervals, quotas, and cost
Cadence is not a single product-wide number: it depends on service mode and plan. ChangeTower’s FAQ reports daily checks on Free and Lite, hourly on Essential, every 20 minutes on Business, and customizable schedules on Enterprise. Its feature page describes per-page schedules from five minutes to weekly; confirm the schedule allowed for the specific plan and monitor before choosing a tier. ChangeTower FAQ · ChangeTower features
ChangeTower’s pricing page, observed in 2026, lists a free plan with three pages checked once daily at no cost and without a card. The vendor counts a page as one URL even if multiple items on that URL are monitored. Paid plan limits and feature gates can change, so use its live pricing matrix for a current workload estimate. ChangeTower pricing
Distill’s supported-platform documentation, observed in 2026, states a five-second minimum interval for the browser add-on and a two-minute minimum for the web app on Flexi; the available interval depends on mode and plan. Distill supported platforms Its pricing page describes cloud-check quotas and other resource limits. Cloud checks are counted in units of 10 seconds, unused resources expire at the billing-period end, and Flexi usage beyond reservations is billed. Because plan headings and limits may change, check the current page rather than assuming a quota from an older comparison. Distill pricing
Estimate the workload before subscribing: number of URLs × checks per day × days in the billing period, then account for the service’s quota rules and any extra checks from retries or more than one monitored region/state. A shorter interval can use quota faster and generate more alerts; use the least frequent schedule that still meets the decision you need to make.

Distill lists email, push and SMS alert resources on its pricing page, and Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, webhooks, and API access on request on its features page. Which service should you choose?
- Choose ChangeTower for further evaluation if its service-hosted schedule, recorded page actions, workspaces, or listed MCP workflow fits your process. Confirm the plan gates and whether its schedule is frequent enough.
- Choose Distill for further evaluation if you specifically want a choice between local and cloud checks, or need its documented selector controls and alert conditions. For local checks, account for the device-availability requirement.
- Do a short pilot before committing if the page is dynamic, behind sign-in, or prone to routine changes. Monitor several representative pages and inspect whether the selected content and alert conditions produce useful notifications.
For a screenshot API rather than ongoing change monitoring, try ScreenshotNeo first: it removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture, and bills only clean shots. It is a capture service, not a substitute for a scheduled change-monitoring workflow.

Troubleshooting common monitoring problems
Alerts fire on changes you do not care about
Narrow the selection to the relevant section or field, then add conditions or exclude changing elements where the service supports them. Recheck the monitor after the page layout changes; selectors tied to page structure can stop matching.
A check misses content loaded after the page opens
Confirm the service has reached the needed rendered state and that any required interaction is configured. ChangeTower says it waits for rendering and supports recorded actions. Distill lists macros. Test on the exact page; dynamic content timing can vary.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A sign-in page or automated-traffic block prevents checks
Review the required login steps and whether the service can reach that state. ChangeTower explicitly says sites that outright block automated traffic cannot be monitored. Do not assume that recording interactions bypasses a site’s access controls.
Checks stop when your computer is off
This points to a local Distill monitor: its device and browser/app must remain open. Switch to a supported cloud monitor if unattended checks are required, after checking cloud quota and plan limits.
Checks are too slow or use quota faster than expected
Verify the active mode, plan interval, and quota accounting. For Distill, cloud checks count in 10-second units and unused resources expire at billing-period end; Flexi overages beyond reservations are billed. For either service, reduce frequency for low-priority pages or remove duplicate monitors if the workflow permits.
An alert destination or integration is unavailable
Check the current plan matrix and integration setup. ChangeTower’s FAQ describes a Teams channel email workaround while native integration is in development; that status may change. Distill says API access is available on request, so contact the vendor if that route is required.
