Chandigarh University scheduled its sixth Global Education Summit for October 5–9, 2026, at its Gharuan campus. In a university-provided announcement dated October 6, the organizer reported participation by more than 90 academic leaders representing 69 universities across 30 nations. The event was still underway when the announcement appeared, so those figures describe the organizer’s report—not a final attendance count or confirmed summit outcomes.

What the summit is and when it is taking place

The sixth Global Education Summit (GES 2026) is a five-day academic gathering hosted by Chandigarh University at its Gharuan campus in Punjab, India. Its announced dates are October 5–9, 2026. The university’s October 6 release was issued during that event window, rather than after the summit had concluded.

The announcement was distributed by PR Newswire as a university-provided press release. Its participation numbers and descriptions of the event should therefore be understood as organizer-reported information.

Reported international participation

Chandigarh University reported that the summit brought together more than 90 academic leaders from 69 universities in 30 nations. The announcement does not provide a separately audited attendance total or a post-event count, so it is not possible to treat those numbers as independently verified final figures.

The release also named diplomatic representatives at the inaugural ceremony, including Romania’s ambassador to India and officials associated with the UK, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Jamaica, Guyana, Timor-Leste, Trinidad and Tobago, Panama, and Chile. Their presence is part of the announced programme context; it does not by itself establish participation in the summit’s academic sessions.

The summit’s focus: AI, ethics and sustainable development

The announced theme is “Collaborations in AI-based Research and Innovations for Creating a Sustainable Global Village.” The agenda frames artificial intelligence not only as a technical subject, but also as an issue for education, social responsibility and sustainable development.

  • Ethical use of AI in support of a sustainable society.
  • How higher education can develop socially sensitive professional leaders.
  • Healthy use of AI-oriented technologies to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • AI-based teaching approaches intended to make education more equitable and inclusive.

These are the summit’s stated areas of deliberation. The announcement describes intended discussion and collaboration, not demonstrated effects on teaching practice, research or progress toward the SDGs.

How the programme is structured

The university described a mix of panels, academic and research meetings, institutional interactions, online sessions featuring international speakers, and cultural immersion. Together, these formats are intended to give representatives ways to exchange knowledge and explore potential future collaboration. The release does not identify completed agreements or specific research outputs arising from those activities.

Eastern Mennonite University visit

The announcement said a delegation from Eastern Mennonite University in the United States was visiting Chandigarh University on October 6–7. It described the group as 11 students and two faculty members, with the visit intended to support interaction, academic exchange and exposure to international learning environments. Because the release appeared during the scheduled visit, it documents the announced delegation and purpose, not confirmation that the visit was completed as planned.

What is—and is not—established

The October 6 announcement establishes the summit’s scheduled dates, venue, theme, planned programme formats and the organizer’s reported participation figures. It does not establish final attendance, signed institutional agreements, completed visits, research results or other post-event outcomes. The distinction matters because the summit was still scheduled to run through October 9 when the announcement was published.
