There is no evidence-backed universal “best chair” for film editors or video production specialists. The right choice is the chair whose adjustments fit your body and desk in your actual editing posture. Start with seat fit, lumbar support, arm clearance and recline; then test the chair at your workstation if possible.
What matters most in an editing chair
Editing can involve sustained desk work, but the available evidence does not establish how many hours editors sit or show that a particular chair improves health or productivity. Seat height and depth
Set seat height so your feet rest flat on the floor or on a footrest. The seat should support your thighs without pressing into the area behind your knees. Check published seat-height and seat-depth ranges against your body and desk; a chair that cannot be adjusted to a workable position is a poor fit, regardless of its feature list.

Look for a backrest that follows your spine’s natural curve and support that can be positioned where you need it. OSHA describes height-adjustable lumbar support and adjustable reclining support, but the useful position is individual. Verify that the lumbar adjustment moves far enough to suit your back rather than assuming a feature name guarantees a fit.

Armrests and desk clearance
Adjustable armrests can help you keep your shoulders relaxed and elbows near your body while using a keyboard, mouse or control surface. Check their height, width and reach, and make sure they clear the desk when you move close to it. Configurations differ, so confirm the exact chair variant.
Recline and posture changes
Check whether the chair lets you change posture and adjust tilt or recline tension to your preference. The goal is usable adjustment, not a claim that a movement feature prevents injury. Set up the chair with the rest of the workstation
A chair cannot be assessed in isolation from desk height, foot support and the reach to your monitor, keyboard and mouse. OSHA advises coordinating chair adjustment with monitor, keyboard and desk placement. ISO 9241-5:2024 likewise addresses workstation fit and adjustment as part of workstation layout.

- Adjust seat height first, with your feet supported on the floor or a footrest.
- Set the backrest and lumbar support so they contact your back comfortably.
- Position armrests so your shoulders can relax and they do not prevent you from getting close to the desk.
- Check that your usual keyboard, mouse and monitor positions remain reachable and comfortable after chair adjustments.
- If your feet cannot rest on the floor at a suitable seat height, consider whether a footrest is needed.

- Measure your setup. Note your desk height, your comfortable seat height and whether your feet need a footrest. Compare these with the chair’s published adjustment ranges.
