To connect a device to CenturyLink Wi‑Fi, select your network name (SSID) in the device’s Wi‑Fi settings and enter its Wi‑Fi key. To manage the modem, open http://192.168.0.1 while connected to your home network and sign in with the modem’s admin credentials. These are separate passwords, and the exact settings menus vary by modem model.

The modem label typically lists both default credential pairs: the Wi‑Fi name and key for joining the network, and the admin username and password for the settings portal. If either pair was changed, use the customized credentials instead. CenturyLink explains the distinction in its admin password and Wi‑Fi password guidance.

Connect a device to CenturyLink Wi‑Fi
- Check the modem’s internet light. CenturyLink’s connection instructions say it should be green.
- Find the Wi‑Fi name and key. Look for the modem label, usually on its side, bottom, or back. If you customized the network name or password, use those updated details.
- Open Wi‑Fi settings on your device. Select the SSID that matches the modem’s network name.
- Enter the Wi‑Fi key and connect. Depending on the device, the control may be labelled Connect or Join. The device can usually remember the network for future connections.
CenturyLink provides device-specific instructions in how to connect devices to CenturyLink Wi‑Fi. If you have forgotten a customized Wi‑Fi name or key but can still sign in to the modem, check the wireless settings there. If you cannot access those settings, CenturyLink directs customers to technical support for additional help.
Sign in to the modem settings portal
- Connect your phone or computer to the home network, either by Wi‑Fi or Ethernet.
- Open a web browser and enter
http://192.168.0.1in the address bar. - Sign in with the modem’s admin username and password. Use the credentials printed on its label unless you changed them.
Do not enter the Wi‑Fi key in the admin login form: it connects devices to the network but does not open the modem settings. CenturyLink’s modem sign-in instructions describe this local portal.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Keep the modem label intact because it records the default admin credentials. If you changed the admin password and have forgotten it, CenturyLink says you must reset the modem to use the defaults on the label again. A reset clears settings, so do not treat it as a routine first step for a device that simply will not connect. Refer to the reset and reboot guidance before proceeding.
Turn on Wi‑Fi or make the network visible
If you can sign in but your wireless network is not available, the general CenturyLink workflow is to enable the wireless radio, then enable SSID broadcasting. Names and locations of controls vary by modem, so use the guide for your specific model if the screens do not match.

- In the modem’s settings portal, open Wireless Setup and enable the wireless radio. Apply or save the change.
- Open SSID Setup, choose the network you want to configure, and enable Broadcast SSID. Apply or save again.
- Check the modem’s wireless light; CenturyLink says it should turn green when Wi‑Fi is enabled.
CenturyLink’s wireless setup instructions cover enabling wireless, broadcasting a network name, and related settings. Not every modem offers the same frequency bands or options.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
After changing the SSID or key, devices saved with the old details may no longer connect automatically. Select the updated network name on each device and enter the new key when prompted.
Fix a device that will not connect
- Check the network name and key. Confirm you selected the intended SSID and entered the current key, not an old customized password.
- Refresh the wireless connection. Turn Wi‑Fi off and back on on the device; if needed, refresh Wi‑Fi on the modem.
- Remove the saved network and reconnect. Use the device’s option to forget the network, then select the SSID again and enter the key.
- Consider WPS where available. CenturyLink lists WPS as an option for connecting certain devices without manually typing the Wi‑Fi password.
- Check compatibility if only some devices fail. A device may not support the modem’s security type. Updating its wireless drivers may also help where applicable.
These steps are among CenturyLink’s suggestions in its Wi‑Fi connection troubleshooting guide.

Tell a Wi‑Fi problem from an internet-service problem
Wi‑Fi speed depends on both the wired connection reaching the modem and the wireless link from the modem to the device. To separate them, compare a device’s Wi‑Fi performance with a test over Ethernet, if possible. CenturyLink recommends checking modem connection status or testing speed, ideally with one device wired directly to the modem.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Ethernet and Wi‑Fi are similarly slow: The service connection reaching the modem may be the problem.
- Ethernet works well but Wi‑Fi is much slower: Focus on wireless signal, interference, or coverage inside the home.
For a possible local outage or a modem restart, the My CenturyLink app lists outage checks, resolution timelines, and remote rebooting. A reboot utility is also available in the modem interface, and CenturyLink says rebooting can often help with connection or wireless problems. See the My CenturyLink app features and its modem reboot instructions.

When coverage, rather than service, is the issue
If the connection is unstable only in parts of the home while performance near the modem or over Ethernet is better, weak in-home coverage may be the issue. CenturyLink says a Wi‑Fi extender may help increase coverage, but it does not identify a particular model or establish compatibility with every modem. Treat an extender as a possible remedy for weak signal areas, not for an outage or a slow service connection. See CenturyLink’s Wi‑Fi extender guidance.
