Freehold Games says Caves of Qud contains many interlocking systems whose combinations can produce highly emergent, difficult-to-predict gameplay. The studio wants players to stress-test those interactions during development instead of treating the expansion as a finished, fixed package on day one.

- Purchase Diaspora for $14.99 when it becomes available on December 9, 2026.
- Enable or install the expansion through Steam’s downloadable-content controls.
- Start a new character to explore the new stocks, callings, mutations and True Kin options.
- Expect updates during 2027 as planned quests, factions, locations, diseases, creatures, items and music are added or revised.
Because Diaspora is an emergent-systems expansion, players should also expect interactions and balance to change as the developers respond to Early Access feedback.
Why this launch matters for Caves of Qud players
Caves of Qud began its Steam Early Access history in 2015 and is built around the tension between authored locations and procedural surprises. Diaspora extends that design rather than replacing it: new playable stocks and mutations affect character identity, while caravans, mounts, roads and rivers change how a run moves through the world. The announced roadmap points toward a broader social and geographic layer, with factions, migrant flows, mega-caravans, underground settlements and larger connected spaces still to come.
