What exactly is Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Collection?
The name refers to a specific 2013 compilation, not to a modern remaster or a single downloadable package. Konami’s European product listing identifies the release as Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Collection, gives 8 November 2013 as its release date, and lists PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as its platforms. The listing also labels the package single-player.

Konami’s North and South American launch announcement listed a $39.99 suggested retail price at launch. That was the original suggested price, not a current used-market or digital price, and it should not be treated as evidence that a copy is still available for that amount.

The package is split between one physical game and several voucher-delivered extras. Understanding that split is the key to buying the collection safely.

Konami described the arrangement this way in its launch announcement: “The packaged compilation features the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. In addition, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD, the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 demo, and both the Reverie and Resurrection DLC packs will be available through an exclusive digital voucher code(s).” The statement came from Dave Cox, then producer and studio head for Konami Digital Entertainment BV’s European Production, who presented the set as an opportunity for newcomers and existing fans to experience the series in one compilation.
Therefore, a complete-looking case does not automatically mean every listed game and add-on is available. The main title is tied to the disc, while the other items depend on the separate code material.
Which console version should you buy?
PlayStation 3
Choose the PS3 edition if you intend to play on a PlayStation 3. Check the front, spine and disc label for the PS3 designation before paying. A PS3 copy is not interchangeable with the Xbox 360 edition, even though both versions carry the same collection name and broadly the same advertised contents.
Xbox 360
Choose the Xbox 360 edition for an Xbox 360 console. Confirm the Xbox 360 branding on the case and disc rather than relying on a seller’s title alone. The physical formats are separate products, so the wrong disc will not solve a platform mismatch.

Windows PC
The console Collection disc is not a Windows installer. The setup information for PC identifies a separate Steam product titled Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition. If you want to play on Windows, compare that separately titled edition with the cost and effort of obtaining compatible console hardware and the physical Collection. Do not buy a PS3 or Xbox 360 disc expecting it to install through Windows.
For the PC edition, an XInput-compatible controller is described as the safest match. That guidance does not guarantee that every third-party gamepad will be recognized, so check a controller’s XInput support before purchase if you do not plan to use a standard compatible pad.
Will the PS3 or Xbox 360 disc work on a newer console?
The official product information identifies only PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It does not establish that the Collection is supported through backward compatibility on newer PlayStation or Xbox hardware. Do not infer support from the fact that a newer console can run some other legacy games.

Before buying for a current-generation system, identify the exact console model and check the platform maker’s current backward-compatibility catalogue or support documentation. A listing that says “works on Xbox” or “works on PlayStation” without naming the hardware is not enough. If compatibility is not explicitly listed for your model, treat the disc as a PS3 or Xbox 360 purchase that requires the original console generation.

The same caution applies to digital vouchers. A newer console may support an older game in some circumstances while still offering no way to redeem a particular legacy code. Hardware compatibility and voucher availability are separate questions.
Do the download codes still work?
There is no established present-day validity date for the Collection’s original voucher codes in the cited product information. A code may be unused yet no longer redeemable, or it may have been redeemed by a previous owner. Neither the age of the package nor an intact disc proves that the extras can be downloaded.
Network access and a platform account may be required when you attempt redemption, even though the Collection itself is labeled single-player. “Single-player” describes the game mode; it does not guarantee that account or network services are unnecessary for obtaining voucher-delivered content.
What to ask a seller
- Which platform is the copy for: PS3 or Xbox 360?
- Is the original voucher card physically present?
- Has anyone redeemed either code, or is the seller unable to verify its status?
- What region information appears on the case and disc?
- Are photographs available showing the disc label, case markings and voucher card?
Ask for these details before purchase rather than assuming that “complete” means “unused code included.” Sellers may use that word to describe a box with the manual and disc while omitting a redeemed or missing voucher.
How to set up a physical copy
- Match the hardware. Confirm that the disc is marked for your console generation and that you have a functioning PS3 or Xbox 360 drive.
- Inspect the package. Check the disc for readable damage, verify the region information shown on the packaging, and locate the voucher card before discarding inserts.
- Install or launch the disc game. Insert the Collection disc and follow the console’s normal prompts. The packaged Lords of Shadow is the portion that is physically supplied.
- Connect the console if you want the extras. Sign in to the relevant platform account and ensure the console can reach the platform service before attempting a code.
- Enter the voucher exactly as printed. Distinguish similar characters, preserve hyphens or grouping shown on the card, and select the correct account. Codes are generally tied to the account that redeems them, so do not use a shared or temporary account unintentionally.
- Record the result. Keep the voucher and note whether each item was accepted, rejected as already used, or rejected for another reason. Retain the disc and card until every download has completed.
- Test the downloaded item. Start the relevant content while the original disc remains available. A successful download does not necessarily remove the disc’s role in launching the packaged game.
If a code fails, capture the exact on-screen error, the platform, the account region and the date of the attempt. Contact the seller first when the copy was advertised as complete and unused; platform support may also be able to explain a formatting, account or service error. There is no basis to promise that an old voucher can be reissued.
Used-copy checklist
A used Collection can be worthwhile when you already own the matching console, but assess it as two separate purchases: a disc game and a bundle of uncertain digital entitlements.
- Platform: PS3 and Xbox 360 editions are not interchangeable.
- Condition: Look for a readable disc and a case that protects the inserts.
- Region: Confirm the region information printed on the case and disc and make sure it fits your account and console circumstances.
- Voucher status: Treat the bonus content as unconfirmed unless the seller can show an unused card and you accept that current redemption is not guaranteed.
- Hardware: Buying the disc makes little sense if you do not already have, or cannot reliably obtain, compatible PS3 or Xbox 360 hardware.
- Return terms: Prefer a seller with a clear return policy in case the disc is unreadable or the advertised voucher is absent.
Price comparisons should use the condition and voucher status of each listing, not the 2013 $39.99 suggested retail price. A sealed package may still contain a code that has expired under current service rules, while an opened copy with a working disc may be useful if you only want the on-disc game.

This is not a simple “disc versus download” preference. Console buyers are deciding whether they can use the original hardware and whether uncertain vouchers are worth the asking price. PC buyers are choosing a different product with a different installation path.
Common problems and practical fixes
The seller sent the wrong disc
Stop before opening or installing anything and photograph the case and disc markings. Request an exchange for the correct PS3 or Xbox 360 edition. Do not rely on a region or language description to substitute for the platform designation.
The disc works, but a voucher is missing
The disc proves only that the packaged game is present. Contact the seller using the listing’s description and photographs. If the seller cannot supply the card, value the purchase as the on-disc game alone.
The code says it was already used
Save the exact error and ask the seller whether the copy was previously redeemed. A used code cannot be assumed transferable, and the cited information does not establish a replacement process.

The code is rejected despite being sealed
Verify that you selected the correct platform account and entered every character accurately. Check the account and package region information, then contact platform support with the code error. Sealing indicates that the card was not physically opened; it does not establish current service validity.
The download completes but the game asks for the disc
Keep the Collection disc inserted. The downloaded extras do not necessarily change the launch requirement for the packaged title.
A modern console does not recognize the disc
That result is consistent with the absence of an established backward-compatibility listing. Check the exact console model against the platform maker’s current catalogue rather than repeatedly reinstalling the disc.
Which purchase makes sense?
- Choose the PS3 edition when you own a PS3, want the physical copy of Lords of Shadow, and are comfortable treating the vouchers as uncertain until redeemed.
- Choose the Xbox 360 edition when your available hardware is an Xbox 360 and the seller confirms that platform marking.
- Choose the Windows Ultimate Edition when you want to play on PC and do not want to source legacy console hardware. Plan around an XInput-compatible controller.
