Its announced focus is Rose Belmont’s story in 1499 Paris, with the Vampire Killer serving as both a weapon and a way to move through the environment. The clearest recent comparison is Castlevania Dominus Collection, which brings earlier games to current platforms rather than introducing a new adventure.
What’s different about Belmont’s Curse?
Konami describes Belmont’s Curse as a 2D action-exploration game. It stars Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont, and takes place in Paris in 1499—23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. The official site also says Rose bears Dracula’s curse in her right arm. Konami’s official game site presents this as a new story in the series, not a rerelease.

The whip is meant to do more than deal damage
The Vampire Killer is described as both a combat weapon and a traversal tool: Rose can swing with it and use it to reach areas. That makes whip-based movement a prominent part of the announced design. Konami has not yet established how it feels in play, so responsiveness, precision, and how much exploration depends on it remain open questions.

Several announced systems shape combat and equipment
Konami lists multiple weapons, seven equipment categories, relics with offensive or defensive effects, and Arcana powers made by sealing defeated bosses into tarot cards. Those details indicate a broader set of announced combat and equipment options than a whip-only description suggests; they do not establish how balanced or flexible those options are in the finished game. Official materials also name Death, Medusa, and Carmilla among returning figures, alongside Joan of Arc, and describe a vivid visual style that retains gothic elements. Konami’s February 2026 announcement on the PlayStation Blog identifies Konami, Evil Empire, and Motion Twin as the developers.

How does it compare with the Dominus Collection?
The key difference is what you are buying: a new game built around Rose Belmont, or a package of previously released games. Konami describes the three Nintendo DS titles in Dominus Collection as originally released between 2005 and 2008. Konami’s collection announcement lists the included games and its modern-platform features.

The two are useful reference points, not interchangeable products: Dominus Collection preserves and packages earlier games, while Belmont’s Curse introduces a new protagonist and story. Is Belmont’s Curse out, and can you try it first?
As of October 3, 2026, Konami lists an October 15, 2026 release and an opening-chapter demo for PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The game has not launched as of that date, so its difficulty, pacing, combat feel, level design, replay value, and overall quality cannot yet be compared on the basis of a finished release. Konami says demo save data can transfer to the full game on the same platform and account, subject to its stated conditions. What do the announced editions include?
Konami’s June 8, 2026 announcement describes a physical Midnight Edition containing the main game, a digital sound and art gallery, Trevor and Sypha style costumes, and the Family’s Grace relic. The same announcement says select EMEA retailers may offer a SteelBook and Rose tarot card, but does not name those retailers. For current regional availability and contents, check local listings rather than assuming every retailer or territory has the same offer. Konami’s official game site is the source for the announcement.
