Use four checks to find Belmont’s Curse secrets: inspect suspicious walls for visual and audio clues, attack ordinary cracked sections, search dead ends for hidden levers, and use Rose’s Smash on golden-crack floors and blocks. A practical community checklist currently targets 257 Secret Areas, but that number is documentation rather than an official Konami completion total.
This guide explains how each opening works, what to record in a notebook, how to defer blocked rooms, and where the currently documented secrets are concentrated by district.

What counts as a secret area?
The community guide groups every secret opening into four mechanics. A hidden passage has no obvious break point and is revealed by examining the wall boundary while listening for the game’s audio cue. A breakable wall collapses when Rose hits it with a normal attack. A lever door opens only after you find and activate a concealed lever. A Smash floor or block is identified by golden cracks and requires Rose’s Smash skill.

- Breakable wall: strike the suspicious surface with a normal attack until it gives way.
- Lever door: search nearby dead ends and alcoves for a lever, then use INTERACT (E on PC; R1 on PlayStation).
- Smash floor or block: press Down + Jump while Rose is airborne. A higher fall is needed for thick objects.
The in-game tutorial summarizes the first category: “Some secret areas are hidden behind walls. Look out for the visual and audio clues.” That wording is important: a wall that looks normal can still be a passage, so do not restrict your search to visibly cracked masonry.

How many secrets are there?
AllThingsHow’s 2026 community count lists 257 Secret Areas: 172 hidden passages, 59 breakable walls, 20 lever gates and six Smash floors. Its same count classifies 126 areas as containing a pickup and 131 as empty. These figures are a working target for completionists, not an official Konami total or an in-game completion specification. Maps can be revised as players reconcile room boundaries and district splits.

Empty rooms are still valid discoveries. Marking an empty area prevents you from repeatedly revisiting the same alcove while looking for a reward that is not there.
Recognizing each secret-opening clue
Hidden passages: inspect the boundary, not just the texture
At dead ends, room edges and unusually narrow alcoves, walk along the wall and test the boundary even when no crack is visible. The visual clue may be a slightly inconsistent section, an unexplained recess or a seam that does not match adjacent tiles. Listen for the game’s audio indication as Rose approaches. If the wall produces the clue but does not open, record the room and return after checking whether a progression condition applies.
Breakable walls: attack every suspicious section
Use Rose’s regular attack on cracked or otherwise inconsistent wall sections. Continue striking until the surface collapses; one hit is not a reliable test. Two documented examples illustrate the pattern: the wall in the Paris Streets barrel room and the cracked block on the Roof of the Tower. Treat those as model situations rather than assuming every breakable wall uses identical art.

Lever doors: search the space around the gate
A lever gate can look like an ordinary sealed doorway. Search behind pillars, in short side corridors and at the end of dead ends for the hidden lever that controls it. Activate the lever with INTERACT: E on PC or R1 on PlayStation. Record both the lever’s room and the door it opens; this avoids confusing a lever that unlocks a nearby shortcut with one that reveals a separate Secret Area.
Smash floors and blocks: read the crack color and fall distance
Golden cracks identify destructible Smash targets. While Rose is in the air, press Down + Jump to crash downward. The Smash tutorial states that the impact breaks destructible objects and can damage enemies. Thick targets require the stronger version: the Heavy Stomp tutorial explains that power depends on the distance Rose travels during the fall, and a high enough jump can break thicker objects. If a golden-crack floor survives a short drop, gain more height rather than abandoning it.
A reliable room-by-room checklist method
A notebook or spreadsheet is more dependable than memory. GamesRadar reviewer Serena Cherry described the game as presenting “so many cryptic clues, so many patterns to remember, so many intriguing characters or key items hidden away” that she took notes, and observed that finding bosses can be harder than fighting them. Organize your notes around rooms and clues, not only around rewards.

Use a stable description such as “Paris Streets, barrel room” or “Roof of the Tower, cracked block.”
- Assign the opening type. Choose hidden passage, breakable wall, lever gate or Smash floor.
- Describe the clue. Note the crack, unusual texture, golden fissure, audio cue, dead-end location or lever position.
- Record the requirement. Enter normal attack, INTERACT, Smash, Heavy Stomp or a later progression item.
- Log the result. Record the pickup by name when known; otherwise write “empty” after checking the entire room.
- Mark availability. Use a status such as found, empty, gated, ability required or unchecked.
- Place a map marker. The game allows up to 50 markers. Flag a secret or an unreachable location so a later ability does not erase it from your plan.
When available, the Gloomstone relic gives a hint when Rose is close to a secret. Use that hint to narrow a search, then still write down the exact room and opening method. A relic prompt is not a substitute for identifying whether the opening is a wall, lever or Smash target.

District-by-district checklist target
The table below compares the community’s district totals using the useful route-planning axes: all Secret Areas, breakable walls, lever gates, Smash floors and empty areas. “Not stated” means the cited district breakdown does not provide a value; it is not zero.

The Master’s Quarters figure is community-sourced and should be checked against the current map before treating three as a final district total. Clock Tower’s breakdown lists no Smash-floor Secret Areas; that is different from claiming that no destructible object exists anywhere in the district.
Paris Streets
Start with the 24-area target and its eight documented breakable walls. Test every cracked or inconsistent surface, including the barrel-room wall. The Upper Tower’s DEF UP book is a named pickup behind a breakable wall, making it a useful confirmation that a successful strike can lead to a meaningful reward rather than an empty room.

This district has 20 Secret Areas, four breakable walls and three lever gates. Because lever gates outnumber the breakable walls here, inspect the sides and backs of dead ends after clearing visible cracks. Log each lever’s position separately from the gate it opens.

Catacombs of Paris
With 43 Secret Areas and 15 breakable walls, the Catacombs are the largest documented district target and the most wall-heavy route. The Chamber of Whispers contains the Wise Heart Fragment, while the Charnel Galleries include the “Death Mark” clue behind breakable walls. Check both named locations carefully, then sweep unmarked wall boundaries so hidden passages are not mistaken for ordinary masonry.
Notre-Dame
Notre-Dame contains 31 Secret Areas, nine breakable walls, five lever gates and two Smash floors. In the East Gallery, the Eldritch Talisman is behind a golden-crack Smash floor. The Sealed Scriptorium’s melody clue is behind a thick Smash floor that requires a high fall, so a weak stomp is not evidence that the floor is decorative. Mark it as “Heavy Stomp/high fall” if you reach the room before you can break it.
Main Hall
The Main Hall has 37 Secret Areas, only two documented breakable walls and three lever gates. Named hidden finds include the Ghostly Pendant, Brave Heart Fragment, Wise Heart Fragment, Jewel Knuckles and the “Alucard Guides” clue. With relatively few breakable walls, spend more time checking concealed passages and lever locations than repeatedly striking every surface.

Library
The Library target is 26 Secret Areas, seven breakable walls and three Smash floors. Record whether each golden-crack target breaks with a normal Smash or needs the thicker-object Heavy Stomp technique. Keep the three Smash entries distinct from ordinary cracked walls in your notes.
Clock Tower
Clock Tower lists 36 Secret Areas, seven breakable walls and three lever gates, with no Smash-floor Secret Areas in the community breakdown. Its documented hidden haul is unusually dense: five relics, four weapons, six Heart Fragments, three stat books, 14 XP statues and nine meat pickups. Log the room and item rather than assuming every collectible is behind a breakable wall; the district includes multiple opening types.
Hall of Mirrors
Hall of Mirrors has 37 Secret Areas, seven breakable walls, five lever gates and one thick Smash floor. The “Kneeling is the Way” clue is reached through a breakable wall in Looping Hallways. Because five lever gates are listed, search around looping routes and dead ends even after finding the named wall.
Master’s Quarters
The community split lists three Secret Areas here, but labels the district breakdown as community sourced. Treat the number as provisional: record what your current map shows and avoid using this district as proof that the 257-area count is complete.
How to handle blocked or empty entries
Gate the entry instead of guessing
If a door, floor or passage cannot be opened, write the reason in the requirement field: lever not found, Smash unavailable, Heavy Stomp needed or progression item missing. Place a marker and move on. Returning later with the correct ability is faster than repeatedly testing the same inaccessible room.
Confirm an empty area
After opening a secret, scan the entire chamber, interact with obvious objects and record “empty” only when no pickup, clue or route remains. Empty areas are part of the community count, so deleting them from your notes creates false gaps.
Separate discovery from reward
A room can be a confirmed Secret Area even when its reward is unknown or absent. Keep the opening method and the reward as separate columns. This prevents a hidden passage with no item from being discarded and helps reconcile your personal count with later map revisions.
Fast sweep routine for a new district
- Walk the main route once without backtracking, marking every dead end, odd wall boundary and golden crack.
- Return to dead ends and test hidden-passage clues while listening for the audio cue.
- Strike suspicious ordinary walls, including corners and surfaces that do not match their neighbors.
- Search around sealed doors for levers and activate each with INTERACT.
- Use Smash on every golden-crack target; repeat with a higher fall when the object is thick.
- Open your notebook after each room and enter the district, landmark, type, clue, requirement, reward and empty/gated status.
- Place map markers on anything unavailable, then clear the markers as soon as the later ability or progression item lets you finish the entry.
What a complete checklist can—and cannot—prove
Counting every row in your notebook is useful for route planning, but it cannot establish an official completion percentage because Konami has not published a definitive total in the material documenting these figures. Use 257 as a community checklist target, compare district subtotals, and annotate the date or map revision you used. If a later map changes a room assignment or adds an entry, update the affected row instead of treating your earlier run as a failure.
