The Notre Dame piano puzzle is solved by counting the candles beneath each zodiac symbol in the Stained Glass Gallery, then pressing the matching organ keys from the lowest candle count to the highest. The apparent musical pitch is not the clue. The currently documented order is shown below, and the candle counts visible in your own run take priority if the room layout differs.
Finish the nine-key sequence to open the concealed route beneath the stairs. That route leads to the Legendary War and Famine dual swords.

Each oversized key in the Notre Dame Great Organ Room carries a celestial or zodiac symbol. In the Stained Glass Gallery, look beneath the corresponding symbols and count the illuminated candles. Return to the organ and activate the nine symbols in ascending candle-count order: one candle first, nine candles last.

This is a symbol-and-count puzzle rather than a tune-recognition challenge. The key that looks musically higher or lower does not determine its place. Candle count does.

Find the clue before touching the organ
Read the Stained Glass Gallery
The Stained Glass Gallery contains the visual reference for every organ key. Match each large zodiac or celestial emblem to its window, then record the number of lit candles beneath it. Write the count down or keep a screenshot open if you are playing on a system that allows it. The gallery is the authoritative clue because it reflects the arrangement in the current run.
Account for possible layout differences
Games.gg and AllThingsHow publish the same nine-symbol order, but the guides also warn that a particular run may present a different window arrangement. If a window in your game shows a different candle total than the table below, use the number you can actually see. The fixed sequence is a convenient cross-check, not a replacement for the in-game count.

Prepare to reach every key
Why Air Dash matters
The organ keyboard spans the chamber. The cited walkthroughs use Air Dash to reach the far-right Pisces key and the far-left Aries key. Without that movement option, those outer keys can be difficult or impossible to access from the floor. Equip or unlock Air Dash before attempting the sequence if your current progression permits it.
Make the room easy to read
- Stand where the symbol painted on a key is fully visible before activating it.
- Use the gallery notes to identify the next symbol; do not rely on the order in which the keys appear across the room.
- Move deliberately. AllThingsHow reports no time limit, so there is no benefit to rushing between keys.
Step-by-step solution
- Inspect the gallery. Count the candles below every matching symbol and identify which symbol has one candle, two candles, and so on through nine.
- Enter the Great Organ Room. Locate the floor organ or piano and survey the full keyboard. Confirm that you can traverse both ends of the chamber.
- Start with Libra. Activate the Libra key, corresponding to one candle in the documented arrangement.
- Continue in ascending count. Press Scorpio, Sagittarius, Pisces, Virgo, Sun & Moon, Leo, Cancer, and Aries in that order.
- Use Air Dash for the extremes. Pisces is reported at the far right and Aries at the far left in the cited walkthroughs. Dash rather than attempting a long conventional jump.
- Watch for confirmation. Correct activations produce a visible beam or flash. This effect confirms that the organ accepted the input but does not change the next symbol in the sequence.
- Stop after the ninth key. Once Aries has been accepted, leave the organ room through the left exit. Do not keep pressing keys after the completion effect.
What a wrong key does
A wrong activation breaks the attempt and sends you back to the beginning. Destructoid, Games.gg, and AllThingsHow all describe restarting at Libra after an error. There is no partial credit and no way to skip a failed symbol, so return to the one-candle symbol and enter all nine keys again.
The lack of a timer makes a reset inconvenient rather than dangerous. If you are unsure which key corresponds to a candle count, pause and revisit the gallery instead of guessing. A deliberate restart is faster than several unverified inputs.

Open the hidden route beneath the stairs
Use the plaque as your landmark
Destructoid’s Arka Sarkar reported the nearby plaque text as “Beneath these stairs lies our order’s greatest sin.” It functions as the clue for the sealed route. After the organ flashes, leave through the left side of the Great Organ Room and return to the plaque and stair area.

Descend through the opened hatch
The solved puzzle opens the floor or hatch beneath the stairs. Descend into the corridor and follow it to the altar. The corridor is the reward route; it is not a second piano sequence.
Claim War and Famine
The altar holds War and Famine, a pair of Legendary dual swords. Games.gg records the weapon at 100 ATK. AllThingsHow’s guide table reports the following additional values; these are guide-reported game data rather than figures from an official developer manual.

How to handle a sequence that looks different
Do not assume your game is broken if the gallery does not visually match a screenshot. The reliable procedure is to create your own nine-entry list from the current room: identify the one-candle symbol, then the two-candle symbol, continuing upward. Transfer that list directly to the organ.
If your counts produce the documented Libra-through-Aries order, you can use the table as a quick checklist. If they do not, follow your observed counts. The puzzle’s rule is stable even when a layout is randomized; the memorized list is only a convenience from the fixed arrangement reported by the guides.

Troubleshooting checklist
The first key fails immediately
Verify that you pressed Libra, not a visually similar zodiac emblem. Return to the gallery and confirm the one-candle count. If the gallery shows another symbol with one candle in your run, that symbol must be first.
A distant key cannot be reached
Check that Air Dash is available and mapped correctly. The far-right Pisces and far-left Aries positions are the two movement problems specifically noted by the walkthroughs. Reposition on the floor before dashing so the direction carries you toward the key.
The sequence resets halfway through
One of the previous inputs was not the symbol associated with the next candle count. Because the game restarts the puzzle after a wrong key, return to the gallery, rebuild the complete list, and begin again at the one-candle symbol. There is no timed penalty for taking this pause.

Leave through the Great Organ Room’s left exit and return to the plaque by the stairs. The opening is beneath that stair area, not beside the keyboard. Descend through the floor or hatch and follow the corridor to the altar.

Platforms and edition context
GamesRadar’s October 13, 2026 coverage lists Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. The puzzle instructions above describe the in-game sequence and movement, so the symbol logic is the same regardless of listed platform; button prompts and Air Dash controls can differ by controller layout.
No dedicated physical strategy guide, MIDI keyboard, or zodiac collectible is needed to solve the room. The gallery windows, the organ symbols, and a way to reach both ends of the keyboard provide everything required.
What the contemporary guides establish
Destructoid’s October 15, 2026 guide documents the candle-count rule, the reset behavior, the plaque wording, and the War and Famine route. Games.gg, updated October 16, 2026, supplies the complete symbol table, the Air Dash note, the hidden-vault path, and the 100 ATK figure. AllThingsHow, updated October 17, 2026, independently matches the sequence and adds the no-time-limit observation, the confirmation flash, and the weapon-stat table. GamesRadar’s October 13, 2026 review provides the platform list.
No official Konami puzzle solution or primary developer manual was identified in those guide accounts. The sequence is therefore best treated as a cross-checked walkthrough result, while the candle-count rule visible in the game remains the decisive instruction for any run whose arrangement differs.
