Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse contains several distinct Alucard references, but the evidence does not establish Alucard as a playable character or a story character in the 1499 campaign. The links are an in-game navigation motif, an Alucard-inspired costume for Rose Belmont, and the game’s direct continuity with Castlevania III.
What are the Alucard references in Belmont’s Curse?
The new game uses Alucard in three different ways. One is embedded in exploration: paintings of Alucard point through Dracula’s Castle with directional sword markers. A second is promotional and cosmetic: Konami awards an Alucard-style Rose Belmont costume to players who pre-order or buy any edition early. The third is historical: the adventure takes place 23 years after Castlevania III, whose official character history identifies Alucard as Dracula’s son and one of Trevor Belmont’s partner spirits.

1. Paintings guide the player through Dracula’s Castle
The clearest direct reference appears during exploration. GamesRadar describes “haunting paintings of Alucard” that “literally lead the way via directional sword points through the labyrinthine corridors of Dracula’s Castle.” In practical terms, the paintings function as a navigation clue: the sword indicators show which direction to follow when the castle’s corridors become difficult to read.
This is environmental storytelling and level guidance, not confirmation that Alucard is physically present in the current plot. The paintings may evoke his role in the wider Castlevania mythology while helping players solve the castle’s layout, but they do not by themselves prove that he joins the party, appears in combat, or can be selected as a playable character.

2. Rose can receive an Alucard-style costume
Konami says that pre-ordering or making an early purchase of any edition grants “an extra Alucard-style costume for Rose Belmont.” Rose remains the game’s protagonist, so this is a character-design reference rather than a change to the playable roster. The costume lets players dress Rose in a look inspired by Alucard while retaining her own identity and abilities.
Because the offer is tied to pre-order or early-purchase eligibility, readers should check the terms attached to their edition and region before buying. The documented offer establishes the costume’s existence, but does not establish a separate Alucard campaign, weapon set, or playable Alucard mode.

3. The story follows Castlevania III
Konami places Belmont’s Curse in Paris, France, in 1499—exactly 23 years after the events of Castlevania III. Rose Belmont is Trevor Belmont’s daughter and wields the sacred Vampire Killer whip. Konami’s official history for Castlevania III calls Alucard “Dracula’s forgotten son” and lists him among Trevor’s partner spirits.

That chronology gives the new game a meaningful Alucard connection even when the available official material does not say that Alucard himself appears in the 1499 storyline. The relationship is through established history: Trevor’s generation fought alongside Alucard, and Rose’s adventure is set in the same continuity more than two decades later.

Is Alucard actually in the new game?
The safest answer is: Alucard is referenced, but his status as an on-screen story character is not confirmed. The documented evidence supports paintings, an Alucard-style Rose costume, and continuity with Castlevania III. None of those details confirms that Alucard is playable, appears as a non-player character, or participates directly in the 1499 plot.
This distinction matters because “Alucard reference” can describe a visual easter egg, a cosmetic bonus, or a lore connection. Belmont’s Curse clearly has all three types of connection, while a full Alucard appearance would require an explicit story or character announcement.

How the game connects to Castlevania III
| Continuity detail | What is established |
|---|---|
| Location and year | Paris, France, in 1499, according to Konami’s 2026 materials. |
| Time relationship | The story is set 23 years after Castlevania III. |
| Protagonist | Rose Belmont, identified as Trevor Belmont’s daughter. |
| Signature weapon | The sacred Vampire Killer whip. |
| Alucard’s earlier role | Konami’s Castlevania III history identifies him as Dracula’s forgotten son and one of Trevor’s partner spirits. |
The setup makes Rose’s journey a sequel-era continuation rather than a disconnected retelling. Players familiar with Castlevania III can read the paintings and costume as deliberate callbacks to the allies and imagery of Trevor’s campaign.
Which other classic villains return?
Konami’s official cast includes Isaac, Death, Medusa, and Carmilla. GamesRadar also identifies Death, Medusa, and Carmilla as returning foes. Their presence reinforces the game’s use of established Castlevania characters, but it should not be confused with confirmation of an Alucard appearance.

Release date, platforms and demo save transfer
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse releases on October 15, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam. Konami announced a playable demo on October 1, 2026. Save data can transfer from the demo to the full game when the player continues on the same platform.
That same-platform qualification is important: the announcement confirms transfer between the demo and the full release on the matching platform, not automatic progression sharing across PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.
What to check before choosing an edition
If the Alucard connection is influencing your purchase, separate the available benefits into story, cosmetic, and packaging categories:

- Direct lore: Every edition leads to the same 1499 Rose Belmont storyline; the documented Alucard lore connection comes from the game’s continuity and environmental references.
- Cosmetic content: Pre-ordering or buying any edition early is associated with the extra Alucard-style costume for Rose, subject to the applicable offer’s terms.
- Format: Konami confirms physical editions as well as digital availability across the announced platforms.
- Midnight Edition extras: Konami confirms that a Midnight Edition exists with additional contents; the specific extras should be checked in the listing for the platform and region being purchased.
No documented edition turns Alucard into a playable lead. If that is the feature you want, do not infer it from the costume or the castle paintings.
Bottom line for Alucard fans
Belmont’s Curse is deliberately built around Alucard references, but they operate at different levels. The paintings are a practical in-game guide, the Rose costume is an early-purchase cosmetic, and the 23-year jump from Castlevania III supplies the formal lore connection. As of the announced information for the October 15, 2026 release, Alucard’s direct participation in the 1499 story remains unconfirmed.
