Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIn Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, fast travel is normally locked until you defeat Medusa, Joan, and The Fallen, collect their three emblems, enter the Catacombs, and reach the scripted Death encounter. After that encounter, the route opens and previously visited zones are added retroactively. If you have already completed that sequence, check whether you are using a Mirror of Life or a Ferryman Wharf: they are separate networks with different activation actions.
Why fast travel is locked
The most common explanation is that the game is still waiting for a story trigger, not that your save is damaged. Games.GG’s 2026 guide identifies four required milestones: the three emblem-bearing boss victories, entry into the Catacombs, and the scripted encounter with Death. Until the Death sequence is reached, a travel list can remain empty or show fewer destinations by design.

The three bosses are Medusa, Joan, and The Fallen. Defeating one or two of them is not enough; the relevant progression state is having all three emblems and then reaching the Catacombs and Death scene. The travel route is not missable. Once it opens, areas you visited before unlocking it are added retroactively, so you do not need to revisit every earlier zone merely to register it.

- Confirm that Medusa, Joan, and The Fallen are defeated.
- Confirm that all three emblems are in your progression inventory.
- Enter the Catacombs.
- Continue until the scripted Death encounter has occurred, rather than stopping at the Catacombs entrance.
- Return to a Mirror of Life or the Ferryman route and check the appropriate destination list.
If the Death encounter has not happened, an apparently locked list is expected behavior. Do not treat an empty list before that point as proof that a Mirror, controller, or installation is broken.

Mirrors and Wharfs are two different fast-travel systems
The game does not provide one universal teleport map. It has individual Mirrors of Life and regional Ferryman Wharfs. Their destinations, activation steps, and visual cues differ.
| Feature | Mirror of Life | Ferryman Wharf |
|---|---|---|
| Network type | Individual travel nodes | Regional hubs |
| How it is enabled | Stand directly in front of the visible Mirror and use the configured interact or kneel input; hold it until the hub opens | Speak with the Ferryman, then use the blue doors associated with the Wharf |
| What appears in the list | Mirrors that you have actively registered | Wharf-to-Wharf regional connections |
| What does not count | Walking past a Mirror, a normal save room, or an ordinary door | A normal door, a save room, or a Ferryman who has not yet been addressed |
| Scope | Activated Mirror nodes | Regional hub crossings |
These lists do not merge. A Mirror will not show every Wharf, and a Wharf door will not show every Mirror. Decide which network you intend to use before troubleshooting the interaction.
Fix a Mirror that is missing from the destination list
1. Confirm that the story gate is open
Use the Catacombs-and-Death checklist first. A Mirror can be visible in the level while the fast-travel network is still unavailable. Completing the three boss fights alone does not satisfy the final trigger; you must reach the scripted Death encounter.
2. Register the Mirror manually
A Mirror is not registered by proximity. Return to the Mirror, align your character directly in front of it, and use the interact or kneel command assigned in your control settings. Hold the input until the travel hub opens, then leave the interface normally. Walking past the object, jumping near it, or pressing the button briefly without opening the hub does not establish the node.

If you are unsure which command is mapped, open the game’s control configuration and identify the action labelled for interaction or kneeling. Use that configured action rather than assuming a universal keyboard key or controller button. The required input can vary with your layout.
3. Verify the result from the same Mirror
After exiting normally, interact with the Mirror again and inspect its destinations. The newly registered node should be listed in the Mirror network, subject to the game’s progression state. If it is still absent, repeat the alignment and held-input step once, making sure your character is facing the object rather than standing beside it.
4. Do not substitute a save room
Save rooms are not automatically Mirrors. A room can contain a save point and still have no travel function. Likewise, an ordinary doorway is not evidence that a Mirror connection is nearby. Look for the actual Mirror object and perform its activation interaction.
Fix a Ferryman route when the blue door does nothing
Talk to the Ferryman first
The Wharf system requires a conversation with the Ferryman before its regional route is enabled. Seeing the Ferryman’s sprite is not the same as completing that interaction. Speak with him, finish the conversation, and then approach the blue doors.

Use the correct door
Wharf connections are represented by blue doors. A nearby door with a different appearance may simply be an ordinary level exit. If a normal door or a save-room doorway does nothing for fast travel, you are using the wrong network rather than encountering a failed Mirror.
Understand the destination scope
A Wharf is hub-to-hub travel. It is not a menu containing every activated Mirror. If you need to reach a particular room or individual node, use a registered Mirror instead. If you need to cross between regional hubs, use the Ferryman conversation and blue-door route.
Symptom-by-symptom diagnosis
| What you see | Most likely explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The travel list is locked before the Catacombs | The progression gate has not been completed | Defeat Medusa, Joan, and The Fallen, collect the three emblems, enter the Catacombs, and reach the Death encounter. |
| The bosses are defeated, but the list is still locked | The Death scene has not yet been triggered | Continue through the Catacombs until the scripted encounter occurs. |
| A visible Mirror is not listed | The Mirror was never actively registered | Stand directly in front of it, hold the configured interact or kneel input until the hub opens, then exit normally. |
| There is no prompt at a Mirror | You may be beside the object, using the wrong control, or still before the story gate | Check the progression checkpoint, face the Mirror squarely, and verify the interaction/kneel binding in controls. |
| The Ferryman is present, but a blue door does nothing | The Ferryman conversation has not enabled the Wharf route, or the door is not a Wharf connection | Complete the Ferryman conversation and use the clearly identified blue door. |
| A save room does not offer travel | Save rooms are not automatically travel nodes | Find and activate a Mirror, or use an enabled Wharf. |
| You expect every location in one menu | Mirror and Wharf destinations are separate and limited by network | Choose Mirrors for activated individual nodes and Wharfs for regional hub travel. |
Why repeated attempts can appear to change nothing
Fast travel has two independent prerequisites: the global story gate and the local node activation. Repeating the kneel input at an unregistered Mirror cannot bypass the Catacombs/Death requirement. Conversely, reaching Death does not automatically register every Mirror you have seen; each visible Mirror still needs its own interaction.

Destination scope also creates false negatives. A player may successfully activate a Mirror and then look for it in the Wharf list, or arrive at a Wharf and expect a recently activated Mirror to appear behind its blue door. Those are different lists with different purposes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Optional Windows mod for a direct Mirror menu
The Windows Steam mod named Belmont Fast Travel adds a direct menu between Mirrors that have already been used. Its documented interaction is to hold Up at a used Mirror, choose a destination, and confirm. It requires BepInEx and was tested with Steam build 25975867.
This is an optional convenience layer, not a progression fix. It does not defeat Medusa, Joan, or The Fallen, grant the three emblems, trigger the Catacombs sequence, or create destinations that you have never activated. It is intended for a Windows Steam installation; the cited test build does not establish compatibility with consoles, other storefronts, or later builds.

Before installing any third-party modification, make a backup of your saves and check that the mod and its loader support your exact game build. If the unmodified game has not reached the Death trigger, the mod should not be expected to unlock story content.

Separate PC launch and display issue
Some players encounter a PC launch failure when V-Sync is disabled and the game is set to Unlimited FPS. That is a display/launch problem, not the ordinary fast-travel gate. Konami’s official notice gives this recovery sequence:
- Lower the monitor refresh rate to below 60 Hz in the operating system’s display settings.
- Launch the game and enable V-Sync.
- Close the game completely.
- Restore the monitor’s original refresh rate.
Use this procedure only when the symptom is the specified V-Sync-off/Unlimited-FPS launch failure. It will not make a locked Mirror list appear, register a missed Mirror, or activate a Ferryman Wharf.
A reliable troubleshooting order
Following the systems in this order prevents you from changing settings that cannot affect the actual cause:
- Record the progression state. Verify all three bosses, all three emblems, Catacombs entry, and the Death encounter.
- Identify the network. Decide whether the missing destination should be an individual Mirror or a regional Wharf.
- Perform the correct activation. Use the held interact/kneel input at a Mirror; speak with the Ferryman before using blue doors at a Wharf.
- Check the destination list again. Do not look for a Mirror in the Wharf network or a Wharf in the Mirror network.
- Test a second known node. If another activated Mirror works, the issue is local registration of the first node. If no node works after the Death encounter, recheck the exact scripted checkpoint and the input binding.
- Only then investigate PC-specific problems. Apply the refresh-rate/V-Sync workaround only for the matching launch symptom, or consider the Windows mod only if you want a convenience menu after the vanilla route works.
What the available evidence does—and does not—establish
The progression sequence and the separation between Mirrors and Wharfs are documented guidance. The named requirement is three bosses and three emblems before the Catacombs/Death trigger, as reported by Games.GG in 2026. The Windows mod details are tied to its stated Steam build test, so compatibility should not be generalized to every release.
A Reddit discussion mentioning Eleanor and kneeling is community anecdote, not an official system specification. It can point players toward trying the configured kneel interaction at a Mirror, but it does not replace the documented progression and activation rules. There is no published player-count, completion-rate, or performance statistic that would establish how common any of these symptoms are.
