Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Carmilla Boss Fight FAQ: Planetarium Route, Blood Curse and Rewards

To beat Carmilla in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, reach the Observatory through the Library Planetarium, solve the Star Chart and astrolabe puzzle, then treat the blood-curse counter as a separate life resource. The counter starts at eight, falls whenever one of Carmilla’s blood attacks connects, and causes a killing grab at zero. Break both rotating skull shields, attack only while Carmilla surfaces, and stop taking optional hits when the counter is low.

The reported reward is the Occultist Arcana card with Blood Spikes, plus Aerial Rush and Brauner’s Paintbrush. Exact damage values, elemental weaknesses and one universally optimal loadout have not been established, so the safest strategy is built around movement, shield control and counter preservation rather than a claimed hidden weakness.

Where Carmilla is in the Library

Carmilla’s arena is above the Library’s Planetarium and Observation Tower. You cannot simply walk to the boss door at the start of the area: the route opens only after you inspect the Star Chart and use its constellation pattern on the giant astrolabe.

Reach the Lecture Room

  1. Enter the Library and continue to the Lecture Room.
  2. Inspect the Star Chart. Treat the constellation arrangement shown there as the reference image for the Planetarium mechanism.
  3. Move to the giant astrolabe in the Planetarium and align its stars to reproduce the pattern from the chart.

The available walkthrough does not publish a numbered sequence of rotations or a universal button combination. The solution is visual: use the chart in the Lecture Room, then adjust the astrolabe until its constellation matches. If the mechanism appears not to respond, return to the chart and compare the complete pattern rather than trying to guess a partial alignment.

Use the route opened by the astrolabe

Correct alignment opens a grapple route. Follow it upward through the Observation Tower, take the save room on the way, and continue to the boss door in the Observatory. Saving before the door matters because the fight combines a persistent curse with attacks that can punish a mistimed landing; the opened route gives you a reliable retry point rather than forcing another puzzle solution after every defeat.

What to prepare before entering the Observatory

There is no confirmed damage chart, elemental weakness or single best build for this encounter. Do not rebuild your character around an unverified claim that Carmilla is weak to a particular element. Instead, prepare for the things the fight demonstrably tests.

  • Movement: You need a dependable jump over a blood wave and enough control to land in a safe gap between marked pillars.
  • Patience: Carmilla spends much of the fight beneath the blood pool. Save attacks for her surfacing windows instead of swinging at empty space.
  • Counter awareness: Watch the blood-curse number independently from Rose’s ordinary health bar.
  • Retry access: Use the Observation Tower save room before the boss door.

Healing remains useful for ordinary damage, but it does not restore the blood-curse counter according to the detailed fight guide. A full health bar therefore does not mean the encounter is safe if the curse number is nearly empty.

How Carmilla’s blood curse works

Carmilla begins the fight by placing an unavoidable blood curse on Rose. The displayed counter starts at eight. Each time a blood attack connects, the number falls. When it reaches zero, Carmilla performs a killing grab. This makes the counter a second survival resource, not a decorative status effect.

Keep the two resources separate

Ordinary healing repairs damage to Rose’s health, but it does not refill the curse counter. You can survive several mistakes to your health bar and still lose immediately if repeated blood hits have exhausted the curse. Conversely, a high health bar does not justify a risky attack when the counter is low.

Do not relax at the end of the fight

The curse remains active even when Carmilla’s health is almost empty. A nearly defeated boss can still kill Rose through the counter mechanic, so continue dodging until the victory state actually appears. The most common endgame mistake is trading one final hit while ignoring a blood wave or pillar because the boss bar looks finished.

How to break Carmilla’s shields

Carmilla is protected by two rotating skull shields. The practical priority is to break both shields before concentrating on her health. Trying to force damage through the shield pattern creates extra exposure to the attacks that lower the curse counter.

Work on one shield at a time

When Carmilla is exposed, focus your attacks on a rotating skull shield rather than scattering hits between the shields and the boss. Keep enough room to jump; standing directly under the pool or against an edge makes the next wave or pillar harder to read. Once the first shield is gone, repeat the process for the second during later surfacing windows.

Use surfacing windows, then disengage

AllThingsHow’s encounter description has Carmilla surfacing from the blood to throw skulls and raise blood columns before relocating beneath the pool. Her appearance is your damage opportunity, but it is also when the arena fills with hazards. Attack during the opening, then stop trading swings as soon as a wave, marked pillar or relocation cue demands movement.

Attack-by-attack responses

Attack or situation What to do What to avoid
Blood wave Jump over the crest, then prepare for the return pattern before committing to another attack. Landing and immediately starting a long attack animation; the returning wave can catch you.
Marked blood pillars Move into a visible gap before the pillars rise. Use the mark on the floor as your warning, not the eruption itself. Waiting to react until the pillar is already active.
Pillars combined with waves Prioritize a safe landing area first. Choose the gap that remains usable after the jump rather than the closest gap. Jumping without deciding where Rose will land.
Low curse counter Stop taking optional swings, stay mobile and accept a slower damage cycle. Trading health or a shield hit for one more attack.
Nearly empty Carmilla health bar Continue following the same dodge rules until the fight ends. Assuming the curse grab has been disabled because the boss is almost defeated.

Step-by-step Carmilla fight plan

1. Read the opening curse

Expect the unavoidable curse immediately and note the starting value of eight. Do not waste the first seconds trying to prevent the application. Your objective is to preserve the number from that point onward.

  • Battle through the corridors of Dracula’s Castle; Wield weapons against monsters to reach the throne room of the Dark Lord

2. Establish a safe position

Stay where you can see the pool and have horizontal space for a jump. Avoid standing in a corner or directly beneath the center if the current pattern gives you room to reposition. The fight rewards a position that leaves more than one escape direction.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Respond to the first blood pattern

For a wave, jump the crest and watch for its return. For marked pillars, move to a gap before they rise. If both appear together, decide the landing gap before leaving the ground. This sequence is more important than squeezing in an extra attack because every connected blood attack lowers the curse counter.

4. Attack Carmilla only while she surfaces

When Carmilla rises from the blood, use the opening to damage a rotating skull shield. Keep the attack short enough to cancel your commitment and move when the next hazard appears. Do not chase her beneath the pool after she relocates; wait for the next readable surfacing.

5. Break both rotating skull shields

Repeat the wave-and-pillar responses while working through the shields. Breaking one does not end the defensive phase, so maintain the same discipline for the second. If a shield opening coincides with a dangerous pattern, take the safe movement first; the counter is more valuable than a single damage window.

6. Switch to direct damage after the shields are gone

Once both shields have been broken, use each surfacing to attack Carmilla herself. The guide still does not establish an exact damage number or special weakness, so judge progress by the visible health bar and continue using the same movement rules. Do not assume shield destruction removes the blood curse.

7. Finish without gambling

As the health bar drops, shorten your attack commitments and watch the counter after every blood exchange. If the number is low, prioritize survival over damage. Continue jumping waves, moving before pillars rise and leaving the pool area when Carmilla relocates until the encounter is confirmed complete.

Common mistakes and fixes

Trying to heal the curse away

Symptom: Rose’s health improves but the curse number stays low. Fix: Treat healing as ordinary-damage recovery only. Prevent the next blood connection instead of expecting a potion or heal to restore the counter.

Attacking the pool while Carmilla is submerged

Symptom: You spend your attack animation under the arena and are hit when the next hazard appears. Fix: Wait for a surfacing and use that opening to work on the shields or boss health.

Jumping without a landing plan

Symptom: Rose clears a wave but lands on a marked pillar or directly into the next wave. Fix: Identify the gap before jumping, especially when pillars and waves overlap.

Taking a final greedy swing

Symptom: Carmilla’s health is almost empty, but the killing grab ends the attempt. Fix: The curse mechanic is still active at low boss health. Finish the current movement sequence before attacking again.

What Carmilla drops and where she falls in progression

The listed rewards are:

Reward Reported form Why it matters
The Occultist Arcana card Includes the Blood Spikes ability.
Aerial Rush Ability Added to Rose’s available progression after the encounter.
Brauner’s Paintbrush Item Listed as a Carmilla fight reward.

The boss-order reference lists Carmilla as encounter seven in the Observatory. Its broader count is 14 bosses and 18 encounters, including returning fights, so that total should not be read as 18 completely different bosses. Carmilla is also identified among the returning Castlevania foes in published coverage of the game.

Game and release context

The official walkthrough describes the full-game route as launching on October 15, 2026, with Rose Belmont’s Paris setting forming the exploration framework around areas such as the Library, Planetarium and Observatory. A PS5 review published by GamesRadar+ used publisher-provided code and identifies Carmilla among the returning enemies. Edition, region and physical-versus-digital availability can vary, so check the current listing for the version you own before relying on a route or control description from another platform.

What is not confirmed about this boss

Published material does not establish reliable exact damage values, elemental weaknesses or a single optimal loadout for Carmilla. Any guide claiming a precise number without stating its testing conditions should be treated cautiously. The repeatable facts that support a dependable strategy are the Library-to-Planetarium route, the eight-count curse, the two rotating skull shields, the blood waves and pillars, the surfacing attack windows, and the listed rewards.
