Casa Copycha: A Puerto Escondido Beach House of Concrete and Palm

Casa Copycha, a beach house in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, trades the glass-forward look often associated with coastal homes for exposed concrete, a sweeping thatched palapa and planted outdoor spaces. A feature published by Yanko Design on October 2, 2026, identifies Anonimous as the designer and describes the house as a composition of structure, shade and Pacific-facing views.

What Casa Copycha is—and who designed it

Yanko Design reports that Casa Copycha sits on the sandy shores of Puerto Escondido and names Anonimous as its designer. The feature does not name individual architects, give a project date or cite drawings or a technical project statement, so details about the house below reflect that publication’s account.

Concrete, palm and planted spaces define the design

The feature describes exposed concrete as the structural backbone, set against a large thatched palapa made from parota wood and local palm. Yanko Design gives the roof dimensions as 20 meters long by 12 meters wide. It does not identify the craftspeople or explain the roof assembly, so those dimensions and material details should be understood as reported rather than independently verified construction documentation.

Planted courtyards and a green roof bring vegetation into the composition. The article presents the courtyards as a way to bring light and greenery into the plan, while the broad palm roof provides a contrasting, softer visual element against the concrete.

How the house connects rooms, terraces and Pacific views

At the upper level, Yanko Design describes a rooftop plunge pool framed by Pacific views through concrete beams. Terraces and balconies extend the living areas outdoors. Together with the courtyards and roof, these spaces make the house’s relationship to greenery and the coast part of its layout, rather than relying on glass walls as the defining feature.

What the glass-versus-concrete contrast does—and does not—establish

Yanko Design frames the project as an alternative to “glass maximalism,” emphasizing a different visual and spatial character: concrete structure, a substantial palm-thatched roof and outdoor areas connected to planted spaces and views. The feature also describes the design as drawing on local monasteries and haciendas. It names no specific precedent or historical source, so that lineage is best treated as the publication’s interpretation, not a documented architectural history.
