You can capture a page you are authorized to access with Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() API. The example below shows the screenshot workflow on a placeholder URL; it does not log in to a bank or authorize automation of any Indian bank’s authenticated service. For a real account, follow the bank’s terms, sign in yourself through the normal process, and stop if the bank blocks automation or presents a security challenge.
Capture an authorized page with Puppeteer
Install Puppeteer in a Node.js project, then save this as an ES module such as capture.mjs. Replace the placeholder only with a public page, a bank-provided test or demo page, or a page you are authorized to capture.

What the script does
puppeteer.launch()starts a browser. Puppeteer runs headless by default.browser.newPage()creates a page, andsetViewport()sets its emulated viewport dimensions.page.goto()navigates to the chosen URL. Here,networkidle2is an example readiness condition, not proof that every dynamic page has finished rendering.page.screenshot()writes the image to the specified path.fullPage: truerequests a capture of the full page rather than only the visible viewport.- The
finallyblock closes the browser even if navigation or capture fails.

Choose when and what to capture
Wait for the right page state
A page can continue rendering after network activity becomes quiet, and some sites keep connections open. On an authorized test page, a page-specific condition may be more appropriate than networkidle2. For example, wait for a known content selector before taking the screenshot:

Viewport, full page, or a selected element
- Viewport: omit
fullPageor set it tofalseto capture the current viewport. The default isfalse. - Full page: set
fullPage: truewhen the entire page is needed. This may produce a very tall image; inspect it for clipped, repeated, or lazily loaded content. - Element: select a permitted element and call its screenshot method. Puppeteer’s guide says it attempts to scroll a hidden element into view before capturing it:

PNG output and file paths
PNG is the documented default screenshot image type. The path option controls the output file and extension; a path such as captures/bank-page.png requires the captures directory to exist. Choose a private output location for any sensitive capture.

Headless or visible Chrome
Default headless mode is suitable for a basic automated capture. To display a regular Chrome window, launch with headless: false:

Protect banking information and respect access controls
There is no universal permission established for automating Indian bank net-banking pages. Puppeteer documents how to take a screenshot; it does not establish that a particular bank permits automation of its authenticated service. Check the selected bank’s terms and use only an account-holder-operated capture after normal login where permitted.

- Treat captured images as sensitive. Account numbers, balances, names, and transaction details should not appear in public artifacts. Redact before sharing and keep the original in secure storage.
- Do not use public computers for financial transactions. The RBI-hosted Internet Banking – Security Features (Annex-II) advises customers to protect their personal computers and avoid financial transactions from public or internet-café computers. This annex is not a complete statement of current rules for every bank.
- RBI consumer-awareness material warns that screen-sharing or remote-access apps can expose financial credentials. Avoid sharing an authenticated banking screen with untrusted parties.
- If a bank blocks automation or requires a challenge, stop and use a bank-approved route. Do not bypass CAPTCHA, MFA, bot checks, or other security measures.
Installation and common problems
The puppeteer package normally downloads a compatible browser as part of its installation flow. puppeteer-core is available when you manage the browser separately. The official Puppeteer site notes that blocked install scripts can prevent the browser download and lead to runtime errors.
