Cantor Fitzgerald lowered its reported price target for Arch Capital Group (NASDAQ: ACGL) to $100 from $102 while keeping its rating at Neutral, according to an Investing.com report updated August 3, 2026. The report attributes the revised outlook to a mix of estimate changes across Reinsurance, Insurance and Mortgage—not mortgage-insurance concerns alone.

What Cantor reportedly changed

Investing.com reported that Cantor reduced its ACGL target by $2, from $102 to $100, and maintained a Neutral rating. Its account described higher share-repurchase assumptions and lower acquisition expenses in Reinsurance as positive changes, partly offset by lower premium-growth assumptions and higher underwriting-loss-ratio assumptions for the Insurance and Mortgage segments. The report is a secondary account, generated with AI support and editor-reviewed; it is not a direct quotation from Cantor or the original analyst note. Investing.com’s August 3 report

The same account put Cantor’s operating EPS estimates at $9.94 for 2027, up from $9.79, and $10.87 for 2028, up from $10.58. Those earnings estimates increased even as the price target edged lower, so the reported target change should not be read as a simple across-the-board reduction in earnings expectations. The available account does not provide Cantor’s full valuation model or explain the valuation bridge.

How much of the change was about mortgage insurance?

The August report includes higher underwriting-loss-ratio assumptions for both Insurance and Mortgage and lower premium-growth assumptions across those segments. It does not identify mortgage insurance as the sole cause of the target cut, nor does it quantify how much of the $2 reduction came from Mortgage versus other assumptions.

A separate Investing.com report dated July 9, 2026, covered Cantor raising its target to $102 from $100. That earlier account said Cantor was monitoring the mortgage business’s underlying loss ratio after it increased in the prior quarter, and estimated flat year-over-year underlying margins in the business. It is context for the analyst’s attention to mortgage performance, not a stated explanation for the later August reduction. Investing.com’s July 9 report

What Arch reported about its mortgage segment

Arch Capital’s second-quarter 2026 Form 10-Q shows a profitable mortgage segment, with underwriting income lower than a year earlier. The segment includes U.S. primary mortgage insurance, U.S. credit-risk-transfer and other activity, and international mortgage insurance and reinsurance, so its totals are broader than the U.S. primary book alone. Arch Capital’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q

Measure Q2 2026 Q2 2025 Reported change
Mortgage-segment underwriting income $220 million $238 million Down year over year
Gross premiums written $324 million $323 million Up 0.3%
Net premiums written $272 million $253 million Up 7.5%

Arch attributed part of the increase in net premiums written to the termination of certain Bellemeade Re and quota-share agreements on U.S. primary business. That means net premium growth should not be treated as equivalent to faster growth in the underlying gross book. For the first half of 2026, gross premiums written were $640 million, down 1.4% from $649 million in the first half of 2025; net premiums written were $538 million, up 3.7% from $519 million.

Management said that “New originations remained modest due to affordability challenges tied to mortgage rates and home prices, which continued to constrain demand.” Arch also said portfolio fundamentals remained strong and U.S. market share was stable. These are the company’s characterizations of its business and market conditions, rather than independent assessments.

Persistency in U.S. primary mortgage insurance

Arch reported U.S. primary mortgage insurance persistency of 79.9% at June 30, 2026, compared with 81.9% at June 30, 2025. The company defines persistency as the share of mortgage insurance in force at the beginning of a 12-month period that remains in force at the end. It is one indicator of how much existing coverage stays on the books; it is not, by itself, a measure of claims or profitability.

What mortgage insurance covers

Mortgage insurance protects an insured lender, investor or government-sponsored enterprise from specified losses if a borrower defaults. Arch’s 2025 Form 10-K says nearly all of its U.S. mortgage insurance provides first-loss protection on lender-originated loans sold to Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. For U.S. loans with high loan-to-value ratios, the GSEs generally cannot purchase loans above 80% loan-to-value unless the portion above that threshold has protection such as recourse, participation or coverage from a qualified insurer; private mortgage insurance is one common route. What the available information does not establish

The August account does not include Cantor’s original research note or full forecast model. It gives no detailed mortgage-loss forecast, housing-price or borrower-default assumptions, or breakdown of the target’s valuation. Arch’s reported segment figures help describe current operating performance, but they do not reveal the precise assumptions Cantor used. The target is an analyst estimate, not a prediction or a recommendation to buy or sell ACGL.
