If you are searching for an .inf file for the MSI B550M VC WIFI, you usually do not need one. MSI’s official driver instructions tell you to download the package for your exact model and Windows version, extract it, and run the included .exe installer. A loose .inf file is not the expected starting point, so the missing file is rarely the real problem. The useful step is identifying which onboard device still lacks a driver.
Confirm you have the right board
MSI lists this product as the PRO B550M-VC WIFI. Searches for “B550M VC WIFI” can return MSI’s other B550 boards, so check the model printed on the board or on the box before downloading anything. MSI’s PRO B550M-VC WIFI specification page lists the hardware that matters for drivers:

- Chipset: AMD B550
- Wired LAN: Realtek RTL8111GN or RTL8111HN, 1 Gbps
- Wireless: AMD Wi-Fi 6E module
- Bluetooth: Bluetooth 5.2
Those are separate devices, and each can need its own driver. A single package does not necessarily cover all of them, which is why the device name matters more than the file type.

Why there may be no .inf to open
MSI’s guide How to Install/Update Motherboard Drivers?, published November 20, 2024, gives this instruction for downloaded driver packages: “Decompress the downloaded driver file and select the ‘.exe’ file to install.” That is the documented route for the general motherboard driver workflow. The guide does not say that every package is free of .inf files, and this article does not claim that any specific package does or does not contain one. What is established is that you should run the setup executable rather than hunt for a particular INF.

If the file you downloaded is a folder or archive, extract it first. If Windows hides file extensions, enable them in File Explorer under View > Show > File name extensions so you can see which file is the .exe.
Identify the device that needs a driver
Installing every package on MSI’s page is slower than necessary and can leave you with the wrong components. Start by finding the device that is actually missing a driver:

- Press Win + X and choose Device Manager.
- Look for entries under Other devices or Network adapters marked with a yellow warning icon. These usually indicate a device without a working driver.
- Right-click the device, choose Properties, and read the device name and the status in the General tab. Note the hardware IDs under the Details tab, property Hardware Ids, if the name is unclear.
- Check your Windows version under Settings > System > About. MSI’s driver page asks you to select the operating system, so you need the exact version.
Match the device name to the component list above. A “Realtek” entry points to LAN, a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth entry points to the wireless module, and an unknown entry with no name may be a chipset or other onboard component. Use the name you found rather than guessing from the board’s marketing.
Download and install from MSI’s Driver page
- Open MSI’s support site, search for PRO B550M-VC WIFI, and go to the Driver section of the model page.
- Select your operating system version from the list. Choose the category that matches the missing device, such as LAN, wireless, Bluetooth, or chipset.
- Download the package. Save it to a folder you can find again.
- Right-click the downloaded archive and extract it, or decompress it with the tool you already use.
- Open the extracted folder and run the .exe installer. Follow the prompts and restart if asked.
- Return to Device Manager and confirm the warning icon is gone.
If the device still shows an error after running the setup, you can point Device Manager at the extracted folder. Right-click the device, choose Update driver > Browse my computer for drivers, and select the folder. This is a fallback for a package that does not install itself, not the default method.

Install when Windows has no internet connection
On a freshly installed Windows system, the network adapter may not work until its driver is installed. MSI notes that some network chipsets may not work natively after Windows installation. Its stated workaround is to download the motherboard network driver on another internet-connected device, copy it to a USB drive, and install it on the affected PC.

If the device remains unknown
MSI’s support article How do I fix an unknown device in Device Manager?, dated October 3, 2019, offers general steps that still apply to Windows driver problems. Its example uses an Intel network adapter on a different motherboard, so do not treat that example as the correct driver for the PRO B550M-VC WIFI. Use these general steps:

- Uninstall the existing driver for the problem device in Device Manager when it is an erroneous or outdated driver, then restart.
- Choose Action > Scan for hardware changes in Device Manager so Windows re-detects the device.
- Check Windows Update for a driver offered for the device, then compare it with the MSI package for your model.
- Recheck the device name and hardware IDs before downloading again, because a wrong category is the most common cause of a failed match.
If the device name still points to a component you cannot place, contact MSI support with the exact model, Windows version, and the device name from Device Manager.

Use the device name and the official MSI package together. The .inf file is only one possible part of a driver package, and running the setup executable from the correct download is the reliable route.
