The Canon PIXMA TR7660a suits a home office that prints in modest volumes and wants more than a basic printer: automatic two-sided printing, a 20-page document feeder, copy, scan and fax, colour output and Wi-Fi in one device. Whether it is good value depends mainly on what replacement ink costs over time, and Canon does not publish a cost per page for this model.
This review is based on Canon Australia’s product listing for the TR7660a, Canon New Zealand’s listing for corroboration of the core specifications, Canon’s support pages and a small set of customer reviews. It is not based on hands-on testing, so it makes no claims about print quality, setup ease, reliability, noise or real-world speed.

Who the TR7660a suits, and who should look elsewhere
A good fit
- A household or home office with irregular, modest print volumes.
- Anyone who regularly prints double-sided and wants that handled automatically.
- Users who scan or copy short multi-page documents such as forms, contracts or receipts and would rather not feed each page by hand.
- Occasional colour printing for documents, schoolwork or simple graphics.
Look elsewhere if
- You print high volumes. Ink running costs will drive your total cost, so compare them directly with alternatives before buying.
- You need two-sided scanning from the feeder. Canon’s listing does not describe it, so treat it as unconfirmed.
- You regularly scan batches larger than 20 pages in one load.
- Photo printing is your main use. Canon’s listing covers media, but this review did not assess photo output, so check exact paper types and sizes on the listing before deciding.
Printing: duplex, paper and resolution
Automatic two-sided printing is the main practical feature for document-heavy use, and Canon lists it as standard. Paper comes from two sources, a front cassette and a rear tray, each listed in the Australian product information as holding up to 100 sheets of plain paper. The 4800 × 1200 dpi resolution is a manufacturer-listed figure. It describes what the printer is rated to do, not how a particular page will look, and it should not be used as a proxy for print quality.

Scanning, copying and the document feeder
The 20-page automatic document feeder is the key scanning feature. Canon describes it this way:
“The PIXMA TR7660a HOME OFFICE automatic document feeder takes up to 20 pages and feeds paper one page at a time to scan or copy, meaning you won’t have to manually replace each page.” (Canon Australia, product page)
That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent assessment. In practice, load up to 20 pages per batch and split longer jobs. Because the feeder works one page at a time, do not assume it scans both sides of a sheet in a single pass; Canon’s listing does not establish that capability. Fax is listed among the functions, but this article does not cover fax setup or performance.

Connectivity and the Canon PRINT app
The printer supports Wi-Fi and USB-B. Canon describes setup and mobile printing through its Canon PRINT app. Supported operating systems and app requirements change over time, so confirm them on the live support page before buying, particularly if you plan to use a phone or tablet as your main print source.
Ink: what you buy and what it costs to run
The TR7660a uses PGI-680 for black and CLI-681 for colour. Canon’s Australian listing shows standard and higher-capacity options, and some cartridges are sold as XL or XXL variants. Availability and price vary by retailer and region, so confirm the exact code and package before you buy. Canon’s PGI-680 ink cartridge page covers the black cartridge family and general product information.
Canon also states that a complete ink set, with ink in each cartridge, is required for all functions, including copy, print, scan and fax. Plan to replace a low cartridge before it runs out during a job.

Cartridge price alone tells you little. Use this method to compare like with like:

- Find the page yield Canon publishes for that exact cartridge. Record the test basis if one is stated, because yields measured under different conditions are not directly comparable.
- Check the current Australian retail price of that cartridge on the same day you check the others.
- Divide each cartridge’s price by its yield to get a cost per page for black and for colour.
- Weight those figures by your own mix of black and colour pages. A colour-heavy workload raises the cost per page considerably.
No verified, model-specific cost per page has been established for the TR7660a, so any figure you see should be checked against this method before you rely on it.
Reading the speed figures
The speeds in the specification table are Canon’s document-speed figures for the TR7660a, and Canon cautions that observed speed varies with system, interface, document, print mode, coverage, paper and other factors. Treat them as a ceiling for comparison with other manufacturer listings, not as the time a typical job will take. No independent speed test of this exact model was found for this article.

What customer reviews show
At the time of checking, the ProductReview.com.au listing for the Canon Pixma Home Office TR7660A showed four reviews and a 1.9 aggregate score. Visible accounts include complaints about slow printing and problems with the document feeder and reliability. One reviewer said a later software update improved speed.
Four self-selected reviews cannot show how often the printer fails or how it performs for the average owner. The reports are useful as examples of issues that some buyers have raised, and they conflict with one another, so read them as individual experiences rather than a measure of reliability.
