The Canon PIXMA G3270 MegaTank is a budget refillable-ink all-in-one for people who print documents regularly at home or in a home office and do some casual family-photo printing. TechRadar reported on October 8, 2026 that it had fallen to $144 at Amazon, against a displayed price of $248.99. That price is time-sensitive, so check it on the day you buy.
Who this printer suits
The G3270 makes sense if most of your printing is text, forms, and school or office paperwork, and photos are an occasional extra. It is a tank printer, so the main reason to buy it is low running cost per page, not a fast or feature-heavy office workflow. Before you commit, check these points:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- How often you print. The printer is designed for regular use. Infrequent printing is the main risk, covered in the maintenance section below.
- Whether you need automatic two-sided printing. The G3270 does not have it. Double-sided output means turning pages by hand.
- Whether you scan multi-page documents. The printer has no automatic document feeder (ADF), so multi-page scanning is slower than on a model with one.
- How demanding your photo work is. Casual prints are the target. Color accuracy is limited, so it is not a substitute for a dedicated photo printer.
The price, and how much weight to give it

Running costs: ink bottles and yield
The main reason to choose a tank printer is the cost of each page. Canon’s yield figures are estimates, not guarantees, and they should be read with the conditions attached.

What Canon’s yield numbers mean
Canon estimates that a full replacement set of GI-21 bottles yields up to 6,000 black-and-white pages and 7,700 color pages in default mode. The estimate uses Canon’s test method, based on the ISO/IEC 24712 chart and a continuous-printing simulation. Canon says actual yield depends on the content you print and on ink used for maintenance. A household that prints mostly text will see different results from one that prints mostly photos.
Why the first set yields less
The ink included in the box is used to charge the print head during setup, so its yield is lower than that of replacement bottles. Plan your running-cost estimate around replacement bottles, not the starter set.
Bottles and compatibility
Canon lists four GI-21 bottles for this printer: black (PGBK), cyan, magenta, and yellow. Check the bottle code against your printer’s model page before buying third-party or older-generation ink, since compatibility is specified by Canon only for the GI-21 range.

Where the printer falls short
RTINGS’ independent review, originally published September 15, 2023 and with its test bench updated September 25, 2026, identifies the main limitations. These are the trade-offs to weigh against the low running cost:
- No automatic duplex printing. Double-sided output requires manual page turning.
- No ADF. Multi-page scanning is slower than on models with a document feeder.
- Slow output. The rated speeds above are approximate, and RTINGS describes output as slow.
- Limited photo color. RTINGS rates the printer’s fine detail well, but its color gamut and accuracy are limited, which rules it out for professional photo work.
Photo quality expectations
TechRadar’s reviewer found that photos on coated paper looked flattering. That reads as a positive for casual family snapshots, but it is not the same as accurate color. If you need faithful color for prints you will sell, frame, or compare side by side with a screen, a dedicated photo printer is the better choice. For documents with fine text and detail, RTINGS rates the G3270 well.
Keeping the printer from clogging
RTINGS warns that the inkjet print head can clog when the printer sits unused for long periods. Regular use is the simplest protection, and this is the main maintenance point for a home printer that is used only occasionally. If clogging does occur, RTINGS notes that the print head is user-replaceable.

- PREMIUM SUPPORT - Strong technical expertise to solve issues faster.
- Print a page at least every week or two if you use the printer lightly. The sources do not specify an exact interval, so treat this as a practical guideline.
- If output shows gaps or streaks, run the printer’s nozzle check and head cleaning from its menu or the Canon software on your computer, following the on-screen steps.
- If cleaning does not clear the problem, check whether the print head needs replacing. Canon states that the print head and maintenance cartridge are user-replaceable and sold separately.
Replacement parts and service life
Canon’s February 8, 2023 announcement says: “Users can easily replace the maintenance cartridge and the print head (replacements sold separately) to assist with printer longevity.” That is Canon’s statement about maintenance, not independent evidence of how long the printer will last. The sources do not establish the exact part numbers, current availability, or current prices for these parts, so check them with Canon before you buy.

Who should look elsewhere
Skip the G3270 if you need automatic two-sided printing, a document feeder for multi-page scanning, fast output, or accurate color for professional photo work. Its low running cost and home-use focus are the reasons to consider it; if those are not your priorities, the trade-offs above will matter more.
The Bottom Line
For a home or home-office buyer who prints documents regularly and wants low running cost per page, the Canon PIXMA G3270 MegaTank is a sensible budget pick at the reported $144 Amazon price. Accept its lack of duplex and ADF, its slow output, and limited photo color, and check the live price before you buy.
