Choose the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 if photo color, color accuracy, and scan appearance matter more than maximum document volume. Neither is universally better: the right choice depends on your print mix, scanning habits, and whether you can live without an automatic document feeder and automatic two-sided printing.
Canon G3270 or Epson ET-2800: the short answer
These are both wireless, refillable-tank, color inkjet all-in-one printers aimed at home users. They print, copy, scan, and use bottled ink instead of disposable cartridges. The decisive difference is not the tank concept; it is the balance between document economy and photo/scan quality.

| Your priority | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Regular black-and-white and color documents | Canon PIXMA G3270 | Canon publishes up to 6,000 black-and-white and 7,700 color pages per full bottle set in default mode, and RTINGS rates it as the more versatile model. |
| Highest stated bottle-set yield | Canon PIXMA G3270 | Its published default-mode figures are higher than Epson’s replacement-bottle figures, although the methods and assumptions are not identical. |
| Home photos and color fidelity | Epson EcoTank ET-2800 | RTINGS measured a noticeably wider color gamut and better color accuracy on the Epson. |
| Better-looking scans | Epson EcoTank ET-2800 | RTINGS found the Canon’s scans grainier, with fine detail reproduced less clearly. |
| AirPrint and Mopria phone printing | Canon PIXMA G3270 | RTINGS specifically identifies Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service support for the Canon. |
| Multi-page office paperwork | Check both models carefully | TechRadar lists no automatic duplexing and no automatic document feeder for the Canon. The available ET-2800 material does not establish a complete, current exact-SKU comparison, so confirm Epson’s manual before buying. |
The practical verdict is conditional: Canon is the safer general-purpose document printer, while Epson is the stronger choice for people who will notice color shifts, weak photo gamut, or rough-looking scans.
What you are actually buying
Canon PIXMA G3270
The G3270 is a color inkjet all-in-one with refillable tanks and wireless connectivity. Canon’s brochure specifies GI-21 ink bottles and quotes yields for a complete set of bottles. The brochure also lists a one-year limited warranty with InstantExchange; its publication date is not stated, so check the warranty terms supplied with the unit in your market.
#1 Best Overall
RTINGS describes the G3270 as the more versatile of these two printers. In practical terms, that matters if several people will print from different phones and computers rather than one person printing only occasional pages from a single device.
Epson EcoTank ET-2800
The ET-2800 is also a wireless color inkjet all-in-one with refillable tanks. Epson specifies a flatbed scanner and copier and uses T522 replacement bottles. Epson’s product information warns that savings vary with print tasks, print volume, and usage, which is important because an inexpensive tank printer can still have a high cost for a household that mostly prints dense color images.
RTINGS’ head-to-head comparison gives the Epson the advantage for color reproduction and scan quality. That is a quality preference, not a claim that the Canon produces unusable photos or scans.

Ink yields, bottles, and the real cost of ownership
Published yields for each model
| Printer | Ink family | Published yield | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canon PIXMA G3270 | GI-21 bottles | Up to 6,000 black-and-white pages and 7,700 color pages per full bottle set in default mode | Canon brochure estimate; not a guaranteed count for every document or household. |
| Canon PIXMA G3270 | GI-21 bottles | Up to 7,600 black-and-white pages and 8,100 color pages per full bottle set in economy mode | Canon’s economy-mode estimate; output quality and coverage assumptions differ from default mode. |
| Epson EcoTank ET-2800 | T522 replacement bottles | 4,500 black pages and 7,500 color pages per replacement-bottle set | Epson product-page figures; Epson says actual savings vary by tasks, volume, and use. |
Those figures should not be treated as a laboratory head-to-head or as guaranteed cost-per-page numbers. Canon and Epson publish their own estimates under their own methods. Epson’s specification notes refer to the ISO/IEC 24712 test pattern and explain that some supplied ink is consumed during initial setup. Actual yield changes with image coverage, print settings, temperature, humidity, and how often the printer is used.
Why a higher page count does not automatically mean a cheaper printer
Your cost per page is driven by the bottle price in your country and by what you print. A mostly text-based household may approach the black-page estimate, while a family printing full-page graphics, school posters, or photos will consume color ink much faster. A printer that sits unused for long periods can also behave differently from one that prints every week.
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
There is no synchronized, same-date retail price comparison established for GI-21 and T522 bottles, so a precise current cost-per-page winner cannot be stated. Before purchasing, record the local price of one complete replacement set for each model and divide that price by the manufacturer’s stated yield only as a rough planning estimate. Do not present that arithmetic as a guarantee.
What comes in the box versus replacement ink
Initial fill is not the same as a replacement set. Epson explicitly notes that some included ink is used during setup. When comparing prices, use the cost and yield of the replacement bottles you will actually buy after the starter ink is gone. Also confirm that the bottle labels match your regional model; ink naming and availability can vary by market.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minutePhoto printing: Epson has the measurable advantage
RTINGS reports that the ET-2800 produces a noticeably wider color gamut and better color accuracy than the G3270. A wider gamut allows more distinct shades, while better accuracy means colors are closer to the source file or an intended reference. This is most visible in saturated landscapes, skin tones, gradients, and images with subtle color differences.
The result does not make the Epson a professional photo printer. Both are budget all-in-ones, and the final image still depends on paper, driver settings, source resolution, and whether the selected media profile matches the paper. If your photos are occasional snapshots for a school project or a scrapbook, Canon’s document strengths may be more valuable. If you regularly print photos and compare them critically, Epson’s measured advantage is the safer bet.
How to get a fair photo comparison at home
- Use the same digital files on both printers, including at least one portrait, one landscape, and one image with a smooth gradient.
- Load the same class of paper and select the closest matching paper type in each driver.
- Disable automatic “vivid” or enhancement modes for a neutral comparison, then make a second set with the modes you would normally use.
- Allow prints to dry fully before judging color; freshly printed ink can look different from the stabilized result.
- Compare skin tones, shadow detail, sky gradients, and small text rather than judging only saturation.
This procedure helps you decide whether the Epson’s color advantage matters to your eyes and your paper choices; it does not replace controlled testing.
Rank #3
Scanning and copying
Both products are all-in-ones, but RTINGS gives the ET-2800 the edge for scan appearance. The comparison says Canon scans look grainier and preserve fine detail less clearly. Choose Epson if you routinely digitize photographs, artwork, receipts with small print, or documents where line sharpness matters.
The ET-2800’s flatbed scanner is suitable for single pages, books, photographs, and fragile originals. A flatbed requires you to lift the lid and position each page, so it is inherently slower for a stack of paperwork. The available specifications do not establish an automatic document feeder for the Epson. For the G3270, TechRadar explicitly lists no ADF, meaning multi-page scanning also requires one page at a time.
Copying considerations
For a few pages, either model’s copy function should be convenient. For packets, invoices, or school forms, the lack of an ADF is the more important limitation than the nominal copy resolution: you must place, scan, remove, and replace every sheet. If your normal job is a 20-page stack, look for a model with an ADF instead of assuming a tank printer’s low ink cost will compensate for the manual labor.
Connectivity and everyday printing
RTINGS identifies both machines as wireless supertank all-in-ones and calls the Canon more versatile overall. For the G3270, the comparison specifically names Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service. Those standards let compatible iPhones, iPads, Android devices, and computers send jobs without installing a separate manufacturer-specific workflow in many cases.
Wireless compatibility is not identical to easy setup. The printer and device generally need to be on the same network, and a router’s guest network or client-isolation setting can prevent discovery. If a phone cannot see the printer, first check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi name, then restart the printer and router before reinstalling an app or driver.

When to prefer a wired workflow
If your home network is unreliable, a direct computer connection can be more dependable for long documents. Keep the printer’s driver current for the operating system you actually use, and avoid assuming that a driver for a similarly named model will work. Exact model and regional suffixes matter.
Paper handling, duplexing, and office workflow
Canon’s confirmed limitations
TechRadar’s 2026 budget-printer guide lists the G3270 with no automatic duplexing and no automatic document feeder. Automatic duplexing means the machine turns a sheet and prints both sides without intervention; without it, two-sided jobs require manual reloading. No ADF means multi-page scanning and copying are one page at a time on the flatbed.
These limitations are manageable for occasional homework, forms, and short reports. They become frustrating for regular two-sided handouts, meeting packets, or digitizing a filing cabinet. The Canon’s tank capacity does not remove those mechanical bottlenecks.
What to verify on the Epson
The available ET-2800 material does not provide a complete, current exact-SKU feature table for duplexing, feeder hardware, and paper capacity. Do not infer a direct Epson advantage or disadvantage from the Canon specification alone. Before ordering, open Epson’s manual or regional specification page and confirm:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Whether two-sided printing is automatic or manual.
- Whether an automatic document feeder is present; the flatbed scanner alone does not indicate one.
- The supported paper sizes, media weights, and rear or front feed arrangement.
- Whether the exact regional model has the ports and wireless features you need.
Speed and capacity
TechRadar lists the G3270 with a 100-sheet paper capacity and an 11-page-per-minute mono speed in its 2026 budget-printer guide. Treat both as guide specifications rather than a promise for every document. A page-per-minute figure normally reflects a particular test pattern and does not describe first-page time, color speed, photo speed, wireless delays, or the time required to reload paper for manual duplexing.
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
A 100-sheet input is adequate for light home use but can require frequent refilling for a large school project or a small home office. Because the ET-2800 figures provided here do not include a complete current capacity-and-speed table, a direct speed winner cannot be established from the available specifications.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Setup: a careful first-use sequence
Tank printers reward careful filling. Spilled ink is harder to clean than a cartridge change, and an incomplete initial setup can cause poor results that look like a defective print head.
- Choose a stable location. Leave room to open the scanner lid, access the tanks, load paper, and remove printed sheets. Keep the printer level and away from heat and direct sunlight.
- Confirm the exact ink bottles. Use GI-21 bottles for the G3270 or T522 replacement bottles for the ET-2800, matching the label and color before opening a cap.
- Fill each reservoir slowly. Follow the model’s printed instructions, stop at the indicated line, and avoid swapping colors. Wipe any drip immediately with the material recommended in the manual.
- Complete the initial ink-charging cycle. Do not interrupt power while the printer primes its system. Epson notes that setup consumes some of the supplied ink.
- Load ordinary paper and run alignment or nozzle checks. If the pattern has gaps, use the printer’s maintenance routine rather than repeatedly starting new jobs.
- Connect to Wi-Fi from the printer’s setup process or the official driver/app. Use the same network name your phone and computer use; a guest network may block discovery.
- Print a small test from each device. Check a document from a computer and a photo or PDF from a phone before committing to a large job.
Maintenance and common failure points
Faded lines, banding, or missing colors
- Check the tank level and confirm that the correct color was filled.
- Print a nozzle check and run one cleaning cycle if the pattern is incomplete.
- Wait between repeated cleanings; excessive cleaning consumes ink without fixing a mechanical blockage.
- Verify that the paper type and quality setting match the media in the tray.
Ink looks wrong in photos
- Confirm that the driver’s paper setting matches the paper surface.
- Turn off duplicated color management; letting both the application and driver alter color can create a cast.
- Use the same source file and viewing light when comparing prints.
- Remember that the ET-2800’s wider gamut and accuracy advantage reported by RTINGS does not eliminate paper and profile effects.
Phone cannot find the printer
- Confirm the phone and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network, not separate guest and main networks.
- Restart the printer, phone, and router.
- Try AirPrint on Apple devices or Mopria Print Service on compatible Android devices for the G3270.
- Install the current model-specific driver or app if system printing still cannot discover the printer.
Two-sided jobs become confusing
On the G3270, no automatic duplexing means you must reload pages manually. Print a short two-page test first, note which edge exits first, and select the driver’s manual-duplex prompts. A wrong reload orientation can put the second side upside down or print over the wrong page.
Which printer fits your household?
Choose the Canon PIXMA G3270 when
- Most output is schoolwork, forms, recipes, web pages, and ordinary color documents.
- You value Canon’s higher published default-mode bottle-set estimate.
- Several people need flexible printing from phones and computers.
- You can accept manual two-sided printing and one-page-at-a-time scanning.
- You find GI-21 bottles at a favorable local price.
Choose the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 when
- Photo color, gamut, and accuracy are more important than maximum document yield.
- You scan photographs, artwork, or detailed originals and want cleaner-looking results.
- T522 replacement bottles are readily available and competitively priced where you live.
- You are willing to verify the exact regional model’s duplex and feeder capabilities before purchase.
Choose neither without further checking when
- You routinely print or scan large multi-page stacks and require an ADF.
- Automatic duplexing is essential for reducing paper use.
- You need a confirmed high-volume office duty cycle rather than a home-oriented machine.
- You expect a precise current cost-per-page figure without checking local bottle prices.
A practical buying checklist
- Estimate your monthly black-only, color-document, and photo pages separately.
- Price one complete GI-21 set and one complete T522 set from retailers serving your region.
- Decide whether Epson’s reported color and scan advantages will be visible in your work.
- Confirm automatic duplexing and ADF requirements against the exact model manual.
- Check the printer’s input capacity against your largest normal job; the G3270 is listed at 100 sheets.
- Check phone and computer operating-system compatibility, especially if you rely on wireless printing.
- Budget for the correct paper. Photo results depend heavily on media type and driver settings.
- Read the local warranty terms. Canon’s brochure lists a one-year limited warranty with InstantExchange, but the brochure’s publication date and regional terms are not stated.
- Ignore old sale prices when comparing today’s options; printer and ink prices change, and no synchronized live price is established here.
Bottom line
The Canon PIXMA G3270 is the better default recommendation for a general home user who prints documents regularly, wants broad wireless flexibility, and values a higher stated bottle-set yield. The Epson EcoTank ET-2800 is the better specialized choice for photo-heavy households and anyone who cares more about color fidelity and scan appearance. Compare current printer and bottle prices locally, then verify feeder and duplex features before ordering—those workflow details will matter more than a small difference in headline speed.
