Can Your PC Run Gears of War: E-Day? What Benchmarks Reveal

At launch, the clearest answer depends on resolution: the cited tests found strong GPU demands at native 4K Ultra, while CPU differences showed up most clearly at 1080p. Those are benchmark observations, not universal system requirements. The game released for Windows PC on October 6, 2026, and is available through Steam and Microsoft Store, including PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. Xbox’s official game page lists the platforms and availability.

Can my PC run Gears of War: E-Day?

The launch-week evidence suggests that many capable gaming PCs can run the game, but it does not establish a single GPU or CPU threshold for every resolution and setting. The GPU findings come from one high-end test system, and the CPU findings use a separate test setup. Treat them as indicators of where bottlenecks appeared, not as substitutes for the official PC requirements or a test on your own hardware.

Xbox’s official page identifies Windows PC as a platform. Xbox Wire said on September 17, 2026, that final launch PC specifications had been revealed, but presented the tier values in an image. The values are not reproduced here, so this article does not invent minimum or recommended specs. The same post said performance and stability work continued after the July beta. What do the launch GPU benchmarks show at each resolution?

DSOGaming published its GPU analysis on October 5, 2026. Its results came from a Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 32 GB DDR5-6000, Windows 10 64-bit, GeForce driver 617.14 and Radeon Adrenalin Edition 26.9.2. The comparison used Ultra settings with RTX Mega Geometry disabled. The results below describe that configuration and the cards it tested; they are not official requirements.

Resolution and settings DSOGaming’s observation How to read it
1080p Ultra All listed cards except the RTX 2080 Ti ran well. A useful indication that its test did not require a top-tier GPU at this resolution, but not a guarantee for other systems or settings.
1440p Ultra The outlet described its five strongest tested GPUs as smooth; it noted dips to 57 FPS on the RX 9070 XT. Performance varied even among powerful cards. The 57 FPS observation is specific to its test.
Native 4K Ultra The outlet said the RTX 5090 was needed for smooth performance in its test; the RTX 4090 did not reach 60 FPS. This is the most demanding case reported, not a claim that an RTX 5090 is required to play the game. DSOGaming suggested upscaling as an option at 4K.

The GPU comparison included the Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 7900 XTX and RX 9070 XT, plus the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 3080, RTX 4090, RTX 5080 and RTX 5090. Results for those cards should not be extrapolated to untested models. See DSOGaming’s test and charts.

Why can performance change between 1080p and 4K?

At higher resolutions, the graphics card must render more pixels, so GPU limits can dominate. At lower resolutions, a fast graphics card can leave more room for CPU differences to affect frame rates. That split is visible in the two launch analyses: DSOGaming focused on GPU performance, while Tom’s Hardware found its clearest CPU scaling at 1080p and smaller differences among similar CPU classes at 1440p as the GPU became more limiting.

Tom’s Hardware used an RTX 5090 Founders Edition for its 1080p CPU comparison to expose processor differences, then tested a smaller selection at 1440p. It omitted 4K from the CPU comparison because its graphics analysis indicated that 4K was GPU-bound. Its results show that E-Day can put substantial load on a CPU under these conditions; they do not show that every player needs a flagship processor. Read Tom’s Hardware’s CPU analysis.

Does the built-in benchmark match actual gameplay?

Tom’s Hardware found the built-in benchmark slightly slower than two gameplay scenes, likely because its sweeping camera draws more than ordinary play. The outlet still considered it a good approximation, but used an in-game scene for its CPU comparison. For your own checks, the built-in run is useful for repeatable comparisons; if performance feels different in play, assess a consistent gameplay section as well.

Should I turn on Low Core Mode?

Not as a general performance tweak. Across its 25-processor test pool, Tom’s Hardware found that Low Core Mode reduced performance and did not improve 1% lows. A separate experiment showed a narrower exception: when the authors disabled two cores on a Core i3-14100, the game had persistent low-resolution assets and long waits around pausing and reloading. Enabling Low Core Mode resolved those observed problems and improved performance relative to that two-core condition. The outlet did not test mobile CPUs or handhelds, so the result should not be generalized to them.

Which graphics features and upscaling options are available?

Xbox says the game is built on Unreal Engine 5 and DirectX 12, supports hardware ray tracing, and supports AMD FSR, Unreal Engine TSR and Intel XeSS on compatible hardware. It also lists Advanced Shader Delivery for compatible systems. These are official feature statements, not independent performance measurements. The cited DSOGaming GPU comparison disabled RTX Mega Geometry, so its frame-rate observations do not establish how that feature affects performance when enabled.

Xbox describes Advanced Shader Delivery as providing precompiled shaders alongside the game to reduce load times and first-run shader stutter on compatible systems. Its stated availability covers supported Microsoft Store and Xbox PC app storefronts, with support expanding over time. This feature claim is not a promise that every PC will avoid stutter. Xbox Wire’s technical overview details the listed technologies.

What should you take away from these benchmarks?

  • For 1080p, the cited GPU test found that every listed card except the RTX 2080 Ti ran well at Ultra, while Tom’s Hardware saw its clearest CPU differences at that resolution.
  • For 1440p Ultra, DSOGaming reported smooth results from its top five tested GPUs, with some RX 9070 XT dips to 57 FPS; CPU differences narrowed in Tom’s Hardware’s more GPU-limited comparison.
  • For native 4K Ultra, DSOGaming’s test points to a much higher GPU demand: its RTX 4090 did not reach 60 FPS, and the outlet found smooth performance with the RTX 5090. Upscaling is an option to consider instead of treating that result as a minimum requirement.
  • Both reports reflect launch-week software and specific hardware, drivers, settings and test scenes. Patches, drivers, other configurations and later gameplay can produce different results.
