What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Sometimes—but only if your PC and games can make use of it, and you are comfortable with the resolution and other trade-offs. A 1000 Hz display can refresh its image every millisecond, but that specification does not mean every game will deliver 1,000 frames per second or that every player will notice a meaningful improvement. Check the resolution available at the peak refresh rate, your system’s compatibility, and the games you play before deciding.
What does 1000 Hz mean for gaming?
Refresh rate is how many times per second a display can update its image. At 1000 Hz, the interval between refreshes is 1 millisecond—an arithmetic conversion of the specification, not a claim that the full input-to-photon process takes 1 millisecond.

A monitor’s refresh rate also does not make a game render that many distinct frames. The PC, game, operating system, graphics driver, and any game-specific frame-rate limit all affect the frame rate you can actually achieve. LG specifically cautions that these factors can limit performance on its 25G590B.
Will you notice a difference?
A very high refresh rate may appeal to competitive players who can sustain exceptionally high frame rates and want the display to update as often as possible. But the manufacturer announcements available for the monitors discussed here do not provide independent, controlled comparisons showing how noticeable 1000 Hz is for different players or whether it improves competitive results. Treat claims of a player advantage as manufacturer promotion, not as a proven outcome for everyone.

In practice, the useful question is not simply whether the monitor says “1000 Hz.” Ask whether you can run your games at very high frame rates, whether the resolution at that refresh rate suits you, and whether fast motion is your priority. A peak number may require a lower resolution than the monitor’s other modes.
What resolution do these high-refresh modes use?
These manufacturer-announced modes show why it is important to check the resolution attached to the headline figure:

What does LG require for 1000 Hz on the 25G590B?
LG says the 25G590B’s maximum refresh rate of up to 1000 Hz requires Windows 11, a supported recent graphics card, and DisplayPort 2.1. The supported GPU families LG names are NVIDIA RTX 50 series and AMD Radeon RX 9070, 9060, or 7900 series, or newer. Confirm the model’s current manual and compatibility information before buying, since actual operation can also depend on the PC, game frame-rate limits, operating system, and driver version.

How should you decide whether to buy one?
- Check the resolution at the mode you intend to use. Decide whether Full HD or, for some dual-mode monitors, HD is acceptable for your games and screen size.
- Check the whole system, not just the monitor. Verify the required operating system, GPU family, display connection, game frame-rate limits, and driver support.
- Match the feature to your priorities. A 1000 Hz peak may be most relevant if you prioritize extremely fast motion updates and can run games at very high frame rates. It may matter less if you value higher resolution or cannot approach those frame rates.
- Verify the details for your region. Manufacturer announcements do not establish current store stock or a current marketplace price. Check the product’s current specifications and local availability.
What does the 25G590B cost?
LG announced U.S. availability for the UltraGear 25G590B at $999.99 on August 24, 2026. That is the company’s announced U.S. price, not a verified current retailer price; availability and pricing can change.
