Yes—Samsung says the Gear S3 can be worn in the shower. That is manufacturer guidance for an IP68-rated watch, not a guarantee for every shower or every individual watch. The watch’s condition matters, and Samsung does not state a safe shower temperature or spray-pressure limit.
What Samsung says about showering
Samsung Singapore’s Gear S3 support page says the IP68 device can withstand conditions including wearing it in the shower, as well as rain and washing dishes. The page was last updated October 8, 2020. Read Samsung’s Gear S3 water- and dust-resistance guidance.

This supports ordinary shower use as Samsung describes it, but does not establish that every shower is safe regardless of water temperature, spray force, or the watch’s condition. The support page gives no precise temperature or spray-pressure limit.
What IP68 means for the Gear S3
Samsung identifies the Gear S3 as IP68. In its explanation of IP and ATM ratings, Samsung describes IP68 liquid-ingress conditions as accidental submersion in up to 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes. That controlled submersion figure is not a universal depth or pressure promise. Samsung notes that IP ratings do not account for water pressure, so the depth-and-time figure should not be treated as proof that forceful or changing water pressure is safe. Samsung’s cited Gear S3 guidance supports showering, but it does not quantify safe shower spray pressure.
Is the Gear S3 waterproof or just water resistant?
Water resistant is the more useful description. IP68 indicates protection under specified test conditions; it does not mean the watch is impervious to water in every circumstance. Samsung warns that a drop or other impact can damage the device’s water- and dust-resistance features. For that reason, do not assume a used, damaged, or repaired Gear S3 retains its original protection.

Samsung’s IP-versus-ATM comparison also does not give the Gear S3 a 5 ATM rating. Its discussion associates 5 ATM with the Gear Sport and Gear Fit2 Pro, not the Gear S3. A rating or activity claim for one model should not be transferred to another.
How to care for the watch after water exposure
- After clean water: Dry the watch thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.
- After salt water, ionized water, or an alcoholic beverage: Rinse the watch with clean water, then dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.
- If the microphone or speaker is wet: Samsung says call sound may not be clear if the watch has been immersed or either component is wet. Wipe or dry it thoroughly before use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you swim with the Samsung Gear S3?
The cited Samsung Gear S3 support guidance establishes shower use, not a swimming recommendation. Its IP68 submersion conditions are not, by themselves, a broader swimming or water-pressure guarantee.
