Yes—but Live Control Room alone cannot keep an internet radio station running. It manages a YouTube livestream sent by a separate audio source and encoder. Your station still has to supply the program feed and keep its automation, encoder, power, and internet connection working. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring, but does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 playback.
What Live Control Room does—and what it does not
YouTube Live Control Room is the publishing and monitoring side of an encoder-based livestream. You create or schedule a stream in YouTube Studio, then send it a feed using an encoder configured with YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Once YouTube receives the feed, you can check the preview and stream health and start the broadcast.

It does not create a radio playlist, choose tracks, or generate the audio feed. A separate source—such as radio automation software—must select and play the audio, and an encoder must send it to YouTube. The source, encoder, and network must remain available for the broadcast to continue.

- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream: YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16. Confirm eligibility on the channel you plan to use: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A program source that continuously supplies the station’s audio, such as a configured automation system.
- An encoder that can send a compatible live stream to YouTube. YouTube supports software encoders; purpose-built hardware is optional, not required.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the total stream bitrate, plus operational headroom.
- The necessary rights and licenses for the music and other content you broadcast.
How to put the radio feed on YouTube
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Configure the stream’s title and other broadcast details there.
- Configure your encoder. Enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder. Treat the key as a credential: keep it private and do not expose it in a public screen capture or configuration file.
- Set the output for your feed. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the TLS-encrypted version of RTMP. Its encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, with AAC or MP3 audio and constant-bitrate encoding. For ordinary stereo audio, YouTube recommends 128 Kbps. Choose settings your encoder supports and that suit the audio and any visual presentation you are sending; these recommendations do not guarantee stream quality or uptime. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
- Check your upload capacity. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth above the total stream bitrate, with 20% headroom. Include the full output bitrate in your calculation, not just the audio portion. A connection that is marginal under normal conditions may fail when other devices or applications use upload bandwidth.
- Start sending the feed. Start the encoder and confirm that Live Control Room receives the stream and shows a preview. Check stream health before publishing.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Start the stream in Live Control Room if it is not configured to start automatically. YouTube’s tips advise continuously monitoring audio and video quality and verifying local archive files. Its guidance also warns that a connectivity disruption can break the stream. Review YouTube’s streaming tips.
Can one YouTube stream run continuously?
The Control Room workflow lets you publish an encoder feed, but YouTube’s cited guidance does not promise that a radio stream will stay online without interruption. Continuity depends on the whole chain: the audio automation or source, encoder process, power, and internet connection. A failure in any of those can interrupt what viewers receive.

YouTube recommends testing the stream and monitoring it. Its streaming tips also describe testing failover between primary and backup encoders. A backup path can reduce some operational risks, but the guidance does not quantify an uptime level or guarantee automatic recovery for every setup. For hardware, check current YouTube compatibility, supported protocol, failover behavior, and fit with your station’s audio chain; dedicated hardware is not mandatory when a suitable software encoder meets your needs.
Archives and broadcasts longer than 12 hours
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise that a continuous stream longer than 12 hours will be archived in full. If a complete replay matters, make a separate local recording and verify that file independently rather than relying on the YouTube archive. YouTube also recommends checking local archive files as part of stream monitoring.

Music rights and channel eligibility
You are responsible for having the necessary rights to broadcast your content. YouTube’s livestream terms say providers warrant that they have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of live content, including relevant music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers—including public performance licenses—and other royalty participants. They also place responsibility on the provider to meet applicable territory requirements and maintain required licenses or approvals. The exact obligations depend on your location, catalog, and agreements; check those before broadcasting. Read YouTube’s livestream terms.

When to consider a different setup
If your goal is a traditional internet-radio service, compare it with YouTube before committing to YouTube as the only listener destination. Consider whether you need a radio stream endpoint in addition to a YouTube channel, what listener access or player embedding you need, who handles rights reporting and territory licensing, what monitoring and redundancy are available, and what session and archive behavior you require. Do not assume an alternative offers any particular recovery or uptime unless its provider documents it.
If the specific goal is to keep pre-recorded video running as a YouTube livestream without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud option: it is always on from the cloud, streams uploaded video at any quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting live audio from a camera or acting as a traditional radio stream endpoint.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube channel built around uploaded recordings or playlists, StreamNeo keeps the stream running from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It streams the video as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded video on YouTube, not a live microphone or camera feed.

Troubleshooting common interruptions
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Live Control Room does not show a preview | The encoder may not be sending to the configured stream URL or the stream key may be wrong. | Check the URL and key in the encoder, confirm the encoder is running, and wait for the incoming preview before starting the broadcast. |
| The stream breaks or becomes unstable | Network disruption or insufficient upload capacity can interrupt delivery. | Check the connection and total upload use; provide at least the headroom YouTube recommends, test under expected operating conditions, and monitor stream health. |
| Audio is silent or poor | The source, audio chain, or encoder settings may not be supplying the intended signal. | Check playback at the source and the encoder’s audio input and output settings; monitor audio during a test before relying on a continuous broadcast. |
| The broadcast stops when nobody is watching the computer | The source or encoder may depend on that computer, power supply, or local network staying active. | Identify every component in the chain that must remain on, and test the setup for the duration you plan to operate it. Consider tested backup equipment or a cloud workflow suited to uploaded video. |
| A long stream has no complete replay | YouTube’s cited automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours, not a guarantee for longer broadcasts. | Record locally if a complete archive is important, then verify the recording file. |
