Yes. A Hercules DJControl Inpulse controller can play your own music when it is connected to compatible DJ software, principally DJUCED or Serato DJ Lite/Pro. You load local tracks into that software’s library, then use the Inpulse hardware to control the decks.
The exact answer changes if your music is streamed, protected, or coming from a phone. Hercules’ published pages identify compatible software and services, but they do not provide a definitive local-file extension list. Check the documentation for your exact software version before relying on a particular format.

What “using your own music” means with Inpulse
“Inpulse” is a family of DJ controllers, not a standalone music player. The controller supplies physical controls such as jog wheels, play and cue buttons, faders, pads and mixer controls. DJ software running on your computer handles the library, deck playback, waveform display, beat analysis and track loading.
That separation explains why the controller can use music you already own without storing songs inside the hardware. Your files remain on the computer, while the Inpulse sends control commands to the software and receives the audio stream back through its audio interface.

Hercules describes DJUCED and Serato as the intended integrations for the Inpulse family. Serato DJ Lite is compatible with the listed Inpulse models, and Serato DJ Pro is available as an upgrade path. Hercules also states that its controllers are MIDI compliant, so they can be mapped in other MIDI-capable DJ applications, but it does not guarantee the quality of those third-party integrations.
The three ways to get music into an Inpulse mix
| Route | Where the music comes from | What you get | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local library | Audio files stored on your computer | Normal software decks, library search, cues and controller performance features | Format and protection support depend on the DJ software and version |
| Streaming inside the DJ software | A supported streaming catalog linked to your software account | Software-based browsing and deck loading, subject to the service integration | Availability, subscriptions, regions and offline rules vary |
| External hardware input | A phone, media player or other line-level source | A separate audio feed mixed through the Inpulse 500 | The source is not imported as a software-library deck track |
1. Local music files
This is the route to use for tracks you have legitimately stored on your computer. Open DJUCED or Serato, use that program’s library import or add-files command, and select the folder or files you want available. The exact label and library workflow can change between versions, so follow the current instructions for the software release you installed.
- Install the software version supported by your controller model.
- Connect the Inpulse to the computer by USB and launch the DJ application.
- In the software library, add or import the folder containing your music. If the program offers a watched folder, use it only if you understand how it handles moved or renamed files.
- Wait for the library scan or analysis to finish. Analysis time and available features depend on the software.
- Search for a track, load it to a deck, and use the Inpulse controls for playback and mixing.
- Play a short section through headphones before a performance so you can confirm that the file opens and the audio is routed correctly.
Hercules’ Inpulse compatibility pages do not state a complete list of supported local extensions. Do not assume that an extension works merely because another media player can open it. Check the current DJUCED or Serato format guidance for your operating system and version.
2. Streaming catalogs inside DJ software
Some Inpulse setups can browse a streaming service from within the DJ application rather than importing a downloaded file. Hercules lists different combinations by model and software, so there is no single universal “Inpulse streaming list.”

| Hercules page or setup | Services named by Hercules | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Inpulse 200 MK3 | TIDAL, Beatport, SoundCloud GO+, and Apple Music | Apple Music is listed only for Serato on this page; the page also identifies DJUCED and Serato DJ Lite as compatible software. |
| Inpulse 500 with Serato DJ Lite | TIDAL and SoundCloud GO+ | Listed for this model/software combination, not as a guarantee for every Inpulse controller. |
| Inpulse 500 with DJUCED | Beatport LINK and Beatsource LINK | Listed for DJUCED on the Inpulse 500 product information. |
Service support can change when a software vendor or streaming provider changes its integration. Your country may also have a different catalog, and a service may require a paid plan, an account login or particular playback permissions. Hercules’ product pages do not establish subscription terms, regional catalog coverage, offline playback rights or the treatment of every cached track. Verify those conditions in the current service and software documentation before planning a set around them.
3. A phone or other external source on the Inpulse 500
The Inpulse 500 has a hardware input mixer for an external source. Hercules identifies a smartphone or CD player as examples. Its product information lists RCA and 3.5 mm stereo inputs, and the manual places the auxiliary input on the rear panel.
Connect the source to the appropriate input, select the auxiliary channel on the controller and raise that channel only after starting playback at a low level. This signal travels through the Inpulse 500’s hardware mixer. It is therefore an alternate audio path, not a track imported into DJUCED or Serato. The phone’s song will not automatically appear in the software library or gain the same deck controls as a local file.

The table reflects the family-level guidance; always check the support page for your exact hardware revision and the software version you intend to run. A controller may be physically usable through MIDI mapping in another application while lacking the model-specific features, mappings or support that DJUCED and Serato provide.
How to connect an Inpulse and hear your tracks
For a normal computer-based setup, the important choices are the software library and the audio device. The Inpulse 500 manual says to select the controller as the sound device and assign master and headphone outputs. The controller is designed to play through its built-in audio interface.
- Connect the controller to the computer and connect your speakers and headphones to the outputs intended for your model.
- Open DJUCED or Serato and open its audio or sound-settings panel.
- Select the Inpulse controller as the software’s sound device when that option is available.
- Assign the master output to the speaker output and the headphone output to the headphone channel, following the labels shown for your model.
- Load a known local track and start it at a low volume. Confirm that the master meter moves and that you can preview through headphones.
- If you deliberately want to use laptop speakers instead, use the separate laptop-speaker routing option provided in DJUCED settings. This is different from the controller’s built-in audio path.
If you hear no sound, check the software device selection before changing operating-system volume settings. A controller can respond to buttons and jog wheels while the computer is still sending audio to the wrong output.
Can you use music from a phone?
There are two different answers. A phone can be a streaming account source inside compatible DJ software if that software supports the service and account you use; in that case, the phone itself is not the audio connection. Separately, an Inpulse 500 can accept a phone’s analog output through its auxiliary input.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The hardware-input method is useful when you need to hear a separate source, but it should not be confused with loading phone tracks into a deck. Because the audio enters the controller’s mixer directly, the software does not receive a searchable file, waveform or deck object from that connection.
File formats, protected downloads and cached tracks
Do not infer format compatibility from the controller name. The controller does not define the complete decoder list; the DJ application and its current version do. Hercules’ published Inpulse pages do not provide a definitive extension table.
- For ordinary local files, consult the exact DJUCED or Serato documentation for your version and operating system.
- For purchased downloads, confirm that the files are ordinary playable files rather than protected downloads with restrictions.
- For streaming or cached tracks, check whether the service permits DJ playback, offline use and the specific software integration.
- Keep a backup copy of important local music and avoid moving folders after importing unless you know how the software relinks missing files.
The inspected Hercules information does not establish how every protected format or cached track is handled. Treat those cases as software-and-service compatibility questions, not as a feature guaranteed by the Inpulse hardware.

Choose in-software streaming when catalog breadth matters
Streaming can avoid downloading every track, but it introduces account, regional and service-policy dependencies. Confirm that your controller model, DJ application and chosen service form a supported combination before relying on it at an event.
Choose the Inpulse 500 auxiliary input for a separate source
Use the auxiliary path when you need to mix an independent phone or media player feed. Select it for its simple signal path, not for software library functions.
Troubleshooting common problems
The track is visible but will not load
Check the DJ software’s current format and protection requirements. A file can be present in a folder yet remain unusable to the deck if its codec or rights restrictions are unsupported. Re-export or obtain an unprotected, supported copy only when you have the legal right to do so.

Return to the software audio settings and select the Inpulse sound device. Then verify master and headphone assignments. On the Inpulse 500, the intended design is playback through its built-in audio interface; laptop-speaker output is a separate DJUCED setting.
A streaming service is missing
Check the exact model and software combination. The services listed for an Inpulse 200 MK3 are not identical to those listed for an Inpulse 500, and availability can change by region, account and software release.
A phone is connected but does not appear in the library
That is expected when the phone is connected to the Inpulse 500 auxiliary input. It is an external audio signal, so select the auxiliary channel and mix it from the hardware rather than searching for the phone’s song in the software browser.
Quick Recap
