Apple documents Siri for Apple hardware such as iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, HomePod, Apple TV, CarPlay, AirPods and Apple Vision Pro, but not Android devices (Apple’s supported-device guide).
On a Samsung phone or tablet, you can achieve the same practical results with Gemini, Google Assistant, Bixby, Voice Access and voice-to-text. The best choice depends on whether you want conversational help, traditional commands, Samsung controls, complete hands-free navigation or simple dictation.

Why Siri does not work natively on Samsung
Samsung Galaxy devices run Android, while Siri is integrated into Apple operating systems and services. Apple’s current Siri documentation provides no Android installation or setup route. That means you cannot transfer an iPhone’s Siri voice, Apple Intelligence features, personal settings or Apple-ecosystem handoff to a Galaxy phone.

Apps labelled “Siri for Android” may imitate the name or interface, but they are not Apple’s genuine Siri service. Treat claims of official Samsung compatibility cautiously and avoid unofficial APKs, sideloaded packages and emulators. Genuine Siri requires supported Apple hardware.

Apple’s multi-device response system also applies only to Siri-enabled Apple devices. Nearby Apple devices use Bluetooth to decide which one responds; a Samsung phone does not join that handoff system (Apple’s explanation of Siri device behavior).
Which Samsung voice assistant should you use?

Samsung lists these as separate voice-control options, not interchangeable versions of one assistant (Samsung’s voice-control guide). Features and labels vary by Galaxy model, One UI version, language, country, region and account.
How to set up Gemini on a Galaxy phone
Gemini is the closest general-purpose replacement for users who want conversational assistance and newer AI features. Selecting Google as the digital assistant may open Gemini rather than classic Google Assistant, depending on your device, software, Google app and account eligibility.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap Choose default apps.
- Tap Digital assistant app.
- If prompted, tap Digital assistant app again.
- Select Google.
On some models the wording differs. Search Settings for “digital assistant” or “default apps” if you cannot find the entry (Samsung’s Gemini setup instructions).

Assign the Side button
- Go to Settings > Advanced features > Side button.
- Tap Long press.
- Select Digital assistant.
- Tap the settings icon beside Digital assistant.
- Choose Google.
Press and hold the Side button to invoke the selected Google assistant, even when voice wake-up is unavailable.
Turn on “Hey Google”
- Open Settings > Google services.
- Tap the Google account name or email address at the top.
- Tap Manage your Google Account.
- Open Data & privacy > Voice Match.
- Tap Set up and complete the voice-training prompts.
Then test “Hey Google, set a timer for five minutes,” “Call [contact],” “Navigate to [destination],” “Remind me at 6 PM to take out the trash” or “Find a nearby coffee shop.” Internet access, permissions and account settings can affect results (Samsung’s Voice Match guidance).
Use Gemini with Samsung and Google apps
Messages and search
Press and hold the Side button, describe what you need, review the generated message or result, grant any requested permission and tap Send when prompted. Creating a message does not always send it automatically.

While watching a YouTube video, press the Side button and choose Ask about this video. Ask for a summary or specific information and, where offered, send the result to Samsung Notes.

Samsung Calendar
Press and hold the Side button, tap the microphone icon and ask for calendar information or scheduling help. Samsung specifies that this calendar integration applies to the Samsung Calendar app.
Gemini Live
Press and hold the Side button, tap the Live icon, review the information screen, tap OK and start speaking. Gemini Live can use the microphone, camera or shared screen for contextual help. Availability varies by Galaxy model, One UI version, language, region, app version and account (Samsung’s cross-app Gemini actions).
How to switch to classic Google Assistant
Choose classic Assistant if you prefer established voice commands over Gemini’s conversational behavior. On supported software, open:
- Settings
- Google services
- All services
- Search, Assistant & Voice
- Google Assistant
- Digital assistant from Google
- Select Google Assistant
You can then press and hold the Side button or say “Hey Google.” Samsung lists Google Assistant support for Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 5.0 or later, but features and menus are not identical on every model. Newer cross-app Gemini actions may not be available in classic Assistant mode (Samsung’s Google Assistant setup page).

How to set up Bixby
Bixby is the strongest choice for Samsung-specific controls and settings.
- Press and hold the Side button or dedicated Bixby button.
- Tap Start, review the information and tap Continue.
- Sign in to a Samsung account if requested.
- Choose a language.
- Say “Hi, Bixby” followed by a request, or open Bixby from the Samsung folder.
To change options, open Bixby and say, “Hi, Bixby. Open Bixby settings.” Settings include voice wake-up, language and notifications (Samsung’s Bixby instructions).
Older devices such as the Galaxy S10 and earlier may have a dedicated Bixby button. Modern Galaxy phones generally use the Side button. Button assignments and wake-word support vary by model (Samsung’s assistant-button guidance).

Voice Access is not a conversational AI assistant. It is the better option when your priority is operating Android without touching the screen.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Tap Interaction and dexterity.
- Tap Voice Access and turn it on.
- Review the information, tap Allow and complete the tutorials.
- Configure an optional shortcut through the navigation bar, Side button or Volume Up button.
Try commands such as “Go Home,” “Show notifications,” and spoken instructions for selecting, scrolling, typing and activating visible controls. Samsung says Voice Access is unavailable on Galaxy watches (Samsung’s Voice Access instructions).
Dictate messages and notes with voice-to-text
- Open Settings > General management > Keyboard list and default.
- Confirm that Samsung Keyboard is selected.
- Tap Samsung Keyboard > Voice input.
- Select Samsung voice input, or choose Google Voice Typing if preferred.
In a messaging, notes or email app, tap the keyboard microphone, speak, review the transcription and edit before sending. Voice-to-text converts speech into text; it does not independently perform multi-step assistant actions (Samsung’s voice-input instructions).
Fix common setup problems
“Digital assistant app” is missing
- Search Settings for digital assistant, assistant app, default apps or Side button.
- Update Android, the Google app and Gemini where available.
- Open Gemini or Google Assistant directly and finish setup.
- Check whether a work or school administrator manages the phone.
- Use Bixby or Voice Access if Google options are unavailable.
Samsung warns that menu labels and available features change with device and software version (Samsung’s current Gemini support page).

“Hey Google” does not respond
- Complete Voice Match and confirm microphone permission.
- Check the active Google account and internet connection.
- Remove battery restrictions that stop background operation.
- Confirm Google or Gemini is selected instead of Bixby.
- Use the Side-button shortcut as a reliable alternative to voice activation.
The Side button opens Bixby
Go to Settings > Advanced features > Side button > Long press > Digital assistant, then select Google. Bixby may remain available through its own wake phrase or shortcut even after you change the Side-button assignment (Samsung’s assistant controls).
The assistant drafts but does not send a message
That can be intentional. Cross-app actions may require permission and a final tap on Send before completion (Samsung’s cross-app action guidance).
Bottom line: choose the tool that matches the task
You cannot install Apple’s Siri natively on a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet. For most newer Galaxy users, start with Gemini; choose Google Assistant for familiar traditional commands where it remains available; use Bixby for Samsung-specific controls; and turn on Voice Access when you need complete hands-free screen operation. Samsung’s built-in voice-to-text handles straightforward dictation, while genuine Siri requires an Apple device.
