Sometimes. Canceling a stock subscription does not automatically end every license already granted, but the answer depends on the provider, the exact plan and license, when the clip was registered or published, and any YouTube audience limits. A downloaded file by itself may not establish that you have a continuing right to use it.
Check the license, not just whether you still have the file
For validly licensed Shutterstock video, Shutterstock says the license is perpetual and use can continue after a plan ends. Adobe Stock says perpetual licenses generally survive termination, subject to exceptions for Unmetered or Unlimited plans. Those policies do not establish a universal rule for stock footage: the terms of the plan and license attached to your clip control.

Before using a clip in a post-cancellation stream, identify the provider and exact plan, confirm the particular asset was licensed or registered for this production, and check that the license covers YouTube and the stream’s audience. A download is not necessarily proof of a granted license. Shutterstock’s guidance says validly licensed downloads can continue to be used after cancellation; its separate Unlimited policy requires registration for each use during the active subscription.

Shutterstock’s stated 500,000 audience limit applies to Standard Video License web use, including YouTube; its video-license guidance is dated August 19, 2025. Its cancellation help article is dated August 21, 2025. The Unlimited Fair Usage Policy is dated August 18, 2026. Adobe’s reviewed Stock Additional Terms are identified as the January 16, 2026 version. Check the current terms and the version that applied when your license was granted.

Work through these checks before a post-cancellation stream
- Identify the exact plan. Record the provider and plan name, including any Unlimited or Unmetered designation. A provider’s standard subscription policy may not cover a special plan.
- Verify the license grant for this production. Match the asset ID to its receipt, license history, certificate, or required project registration. Do not rely on the fact that the file remains on your drive.
- Check the permitted use and audience. Confirm the license allows YouTube use, whether it covers a live stream or other relevant distribution, and whether a viewer or audience cap applies. For Shutterstock Standard video, the stated YouTube/web audience limit is 500,000.
- Distinguish an existing production from a new use. A policy may preserve content published while subscribed without allowing a new post-expiry production or stream. Check how the applicable terms treat your exact use.
- Review asset-specific restrictions. Editorial-only assets and other restricted clips may have separate use or attribution requirements. Adobe’s license terms describe separate rules for editorial assets.
- Save evidence before canceling. Keep the asset identifier, invoice, license certificate or history, project registration record, and a copy of the applicable terms. Adobe says to download licensed assets because assets or license-history outputs might not remain available after termination.
What a stock license does not guarantee on YouTube
A provider’s license guidance establishes what that provider says its terms allow; it does not determine how YouTube will handle a particular copyright or Content ID claim. The outcome for a specific stream can depend on the precise asset, plan, license, timing, audience, territory, and contract terms. No provider policy alone can establish that a particular stream will avoid a claim.
Keep footage and music permissions separate. Epidemic Sound’s post-cancellation guidance is about its music in published content, not stock video. A cleared soundtrack does not establish rights to the visuals, and a stock-video license does not establish rights to the soundtrack.
