What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Usually, no. Treat every GTA 6 radio song as copyrighted music that is not automatically cleared for Twitch or YouTube. The safest approach is to disable or mute the in-game radio before streaming or recording, unless you have verified permission for the specific recordings, compositions, territories, platforms, monetization and archived-video uses involved.
Owning the game gives you a gameplay license; it does not give you a music license. Rockstar’s published exception for radio music is limited to certain GTAV Rockstar Editor videos uploaded to YouTube. It is not a GTA VI permission and not a Twitch safe harbor.

Why GTA 6 radio music is a copyright risk
A song heard through a game is still a copyrighted sound recording and musical composition. Those rights normally belong to artists, labels, publishers or other rights holders. The game publisher may have licensed the songs for use inside the game, but that agreement does not automatically authorize every player to rebroadcast the music on another service.
Streaming gameplay creates a new public performance or transmission. Uploading a VOD, clip or edited video creates another use that can be scanned, claimed, blocked or monetized separately. A copyright system can therefore act on the music even when the gameplay itself is yours and your copy of the game was lawfully purchased.

- STUNNING VISUALS — Enhanced levels of fidelity and performance with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, HDR options, ray tracing, improved texture quality, and more
- FASTER LOADING — Quicker access to the action as the world of Los Santos and Blaine County load in faster than ever before.
- ADAPTIVE TRIGGERS AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK — Feel every moment through the DualSense controller, from directional damage to weather effects, rough road surfaces to explosions, and more.
- TEMPEST 3D AUDIO — Hear the sounds of the world with pinpoint precision: the throttle of a stolen supercar, the rattle of neighbouring gunfire, the roar of a helicopter overhead, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the European version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
Game ownership is not a music license
- Your game purchase generally permits you to play the game under its end-user terms.
- It does not prove that you hold rights to synchronize a song with your commentary, rebroadcast the recording, keep it in an archived VOD or monetize the resulting video.
- Permission must cover the exact recording and composition, the countries where viewers can watch, the platform, the duration and whether monetization and archives are allowed.
Incidental audio is not a blanket exemption
Music that happens briefly during ordinary gameplay can be treated differently from a channel that intentionally broadcasts a continuous music service. Twitch distinguishes incidental in-game use from radio-station-style broadcasts, but that distinction is a policy boundary, not a license. A rights holder can still send a notice if the recording is used without authorization.
What Twitch can do when GTA 6 music is detected
Twitch’s music policy says unauthorized music may result in a rights-holder DMCA notice or a similar takedown. Its definition of “Music Licensed to You” requires the creator to have secured permission from all relevant copyright holders. The fact that a track is playing from a game does not, by itself, satisfy that requirement.
Gameplay radio versus a radio-style broadcast
A short song heard incidentally while you play may be less likely to resemble a channel devoted to rebroadcasting music. Twitch’s policy, however, restricts radio-station-style broadcasts of recorded music without the necessary rights and prior written Twitch authorization. Do not interpret the incidental-use distinction as permission to leave the entire soundtrack on for every stream.

Possible Twitch consequences
- A rights holder may submit a DMCA or comparable takedown request.
- Twitch’s DMCA guidance says continuing alleged infringement can lead to a stream being disabled or an account being suspended.
- Twitch’s repeat-infringer policy uses three copyright strikes as the termination threshold.
- Even if a live stream remains online, a later complaint can affect clips or saved broadcasts containing the same recording.
These consequences are separate from any in-game penalty. Turning down the music after a notice does not erase an earlier use, so prevention is safer than relying on a dispute after publication.
How YouTube treats GTA 6 radio in live streams and videos
YouTube says that all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. If copyrighted content remains after a warning, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream.
Live stream detection
During a live GTA 6 stream, an automated match can trigger an on-screen warning or other intervention while you are broadcasting. A live stream that survives without interruption is not proof that the music was licensed; detection and enforcement can happen later.

VODs, clips and edited uploads
If the stream is archived, YouTube says Content ID claims can be made after the live stream ends. A claim may allow the rights holder to monetize the video, block it in particular territories or apply another restriction. Clips and exported edits should be checked independently because an edit can retain a song even after you change the live mix.

If you genuinely licensed a song, YouTube says the rights owner should add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license that has not been allowlisted may still result in an automated interruption or claim. Keep the written license and make sure it identifies the channel, platform, countries, term, monetization rights and archived-video rights.
What Rockstar and Take-Two actually permit
The narrow GTAV Rockstar Editor exception
In an April 3, 2024 customer-support FAQ, Rockstar wrote: “You can use the GTAV radio tracks that are included in the Rockstar Editor in your videos shared to YouTube without fear of it resulting in a copyright strike to your channel.” The same answer warns that artists or labels may monetize those videos or restrict viewing in some countries.

That statement has three important limits:
- It concerns GTAV, not GTA VI.
- It concerns radio tracks included in the Rockstar Editor, not every way of capturing gameplay audio.
- It concerns videos shared to YouTube, not Twitch streams.
Nothing in that FAQ establishes a GTA VI radio license, a Twitch license or a guarantee that every future track will be treated identically.
The broader fan-content policy
Rockstar’s January 10, 2025 policy says: “Generally, Take-Two Interactive does not object to our fans using materials for non-commercial uses in a manner which does not intentionally spoil the plot for others.” The policy is aimed at occasional, non-commercial fan uses by individuals. It defines non-commercial activity as not making money through the footage and not using it to promote a product or service.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The policy also reserves takedown rights, lists spoilers and other removal grounds, and says it does not apply to exploitation of Rockstar intellectual property for streaming distribution, film, television, music videos, advertisements or publishing. That language means you should not treat the fan policy as a blanket authorization for a monetized Twitch channel or a commercial YouTube operation.

For a specific proposed use, Rockstar says licensing requests can be sent to [email protected] for case-by-case consideration. A request must include a detailed description of the content and the specific proposed use. Sending an inquiry is not the same as receiving permission; wait for written approval that covers your intended use.
Twitch and YouTube compared
| Issue | Twitch | YouTube |
|---|---|---|
| Primary detection or action | Rights-holder DMCA or similar takedown; Twitch policy enforcement may disable a stream or suspend an account. | Live streams are scanned for third-party matches; a stream can be interrupted or terminated. |
| After the live broadcast | Saved broadcasts and clips can still contain the disputed recording and may be reported. | Archived streams can receive Content ID claims after completion; edited uploads and clips are scanned separately. |
| Typical rights-holder outcomes | Takedown, stream disabling or account action under the repeat-infringer system. | Rights-holder monetization, territorial blocking or other Content ID restrictions; a live interruption is also possible. |
| Radio-style use | Recorded-music radio broadcasts require the necessary rights and prior written Twitch authorization. | No general permission is created by the fact that music was captured from a game. |
| Allowlisting | Not a substitute for securing all relevant rights. | A licensor should add a genuinely licensed channel to its Content ID allowlist; otherwise an automated claim or interruption may still occur. |
| Rockstar exception | No reviewed Rockstar exception covers Twitch. | The published exception covers GTAV Rockstar Editor radio tracks in YouTube videos, with possible monetization or country restrictions by rights holders. |
A safe workflow for streaming and uploading GTA 6
- Disable the radio before you go live. Use the game’s documented audio controls to turn music off or reduce it to zero. Do not assume a setting called “streamer mode” exists or removes licensed tracks; no GTA VI-specific filter or catalogue has been established in the reviewed official material.
- Verify what reaches the audience. Test the exact live mix, including desktop audio, capture-card audio, party chat, VOD recording and clip creation. A setting that mutes your headphones may leave the music in the broadcast feed.
- Separate gameplay from music. Keep game effects and commentary if desired, but mute or replace the radio channel in the final stream and exported edit. Check intros, outros, menus and cutscenes as well as driving sequences.
- Review every derivative file. Treat the live stream, automatic VOD, highlight, short clip and edited YouTube upload as separate deliverables. Listen to each one before publishing.
- Document any permission. Retain the signed license, the names of the recording and composition owners, territories, term, platforms, monetization terms, archive duration and any Content ID allowlist confirmation.
- Use a preflight test. If music is licensed, make a private or unlisted upload and confirm that the rights owner has allowlisted the channel. A clean test is useful but does not replace the written rights grant.
- Keep records after publication. Save the license, correspondence, track list and dates so you can respond accurately if Twitch or YouTube asks for proof.
What to do if a claim or takedown arrives
For a YouTube Content ID claim
- Read the claim details and identify the exact recording, claimant, territories and policy (monetize, block or track).
- If you do not have a license, mute, trim or replace the identified segment rather than disputing automatically.
- If you do have a license, dispute only with documentation that covers the recording, composition, platform, territory, monetization and archive. Ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel.
- Remember that a Content ID claim is different from a copyright strike, but repeated or escalated disputes can still create risk.
For a Twitch notice or disabled stream
- Stop rebroadcasting the identified recording and remove affected VODs or clips where appropriate.
- Review your audio routing so the same song cannot return in the next broadcast.
- Submit a counter-notification or appeal only when you can substantiate the rights and understand the legal consequences.
- Do not argue that owning GTA 6 defeats the music claim; it does not establish permission for the recording.
Monetization, geography and archives
Monetization changes the risk analysis. A non-commercial fan upload may fall within Rockstar’s general tolerance in some circumstances, but platform monetization, sponsorship, memberships, advertising or use that promotes a product can make the use commercial. A rights holder may monetize a video instead of removing it, so an upload remaining online does not mean you are entitled to its revenue.
Geography also matters. The GTAV FAQ expressly warns that artists or labels may restrict viewing in some countries. A song cleared in one territory may be blocked in another. Licenses should state where viewers may watch and whether a global platform archive is covered.
Archives require their own check. Permission to perform music live may not include the right to keep a VOD indefinitely, publish clips or distribute an edited version on another service. Confirm each format before retaining it.
What is still unknown about GTA 6 radio use
The reviewed official statements do not establish a GTA VI-specific radio catalogue, a GTA VI streamer mode, or a license grant for Twitch or YouTube. They also do not establish that every GTA 6 song will be detected, or that every song will receive the same platform treatment. Confirm any launch-era Rockstar instructions and in-game audio options before relying on them.
Until Rockstar or the relevant rights holders publish permission that clearly covers your use, muting the radio is the dependable choice. You can preserve the gameplay, effects and commentary while avoiding an avoidable music-rights dispute.
