No—not as a direct install. Google’s Watch Face Designer (sometimes called a “watch face generator” in searches) creates Wear OS watch faces in the Watch Face Format. Its documented export and preview paths are for Wear OS devices and developer tools, not Fitbit clocks. Google’s Fitbit instructions instead send you to the clock-face gallery for your connected Fitbit in the Google Health app.
If you only want the appearance as a static picture, the answer depends on the exact Fitbit model. The available Fitbit guidance does not establish universal photo-face or wallpaper support, so check the face options shown for your device before preparing an image.

What Google Watch Face Designer actually creates
Google’s official product name is Watch Face Designer, a Figma plugin for building no-code watch-face designs and prototypes. It is not a general image generator that exports one universal file for every smartwatch. The tool is integrated with Google’s Watch Face Format, a declarative XML-based format intended for Wear OS faces.

- Publishing through Google Play for Wear OS.
- Opening the result in Android Studio.
- Opening or refining it in Watch Face Studio.
- Previewing the design on a Wear OS device.
Fitbit is not listed as a destination in those routes. A design exported for Wear OS is therefore an interactive watch-face package for that platform, not a Fitbit clock file.
Why a Wear OS face package does not install on Fitbit
Different operating-system targets
Wear OS and Fitbit devices use different software platforms, face runtimes and installation systems. Watch Face Format describes how a Wear OS watch renders a face, reads complications and handles supported interactions. A Fitbit device does not document support for importing that format or running a Wear OS face package.
Different distribution channels
Google’s Wear OS workflow uses developer and Play Store channels. Fitbit’s documented workflow uses the clock gallery associated with the connected Fitbit device in Google Health. Because the two systems do not share a documented package channel, copying an XML file, an Android project or a Play Store face package to Fitbit is not a supported conversion method.
The 2026 Wear OS policy deadline is not a Fitbit bridge
Google’s Wear OS guidance calls Watch Face Format the recommended way to create Wear OS watch faces. A 2025 policy announcement set January 14, 2026 as the deadline for developers to migrate published Wear OS faces to that format. That deadline concerns Wear OS publishing requirements; it does not add Fitbit compatibility or create a Fitbit import tool.

How Fitbit clock faces are installed
For a supported Fitbit model, use the face gallery for the device that is currently connected to your account. Google’s Fitbit help instructions describe this general path:
- Open the Google Health app that manages your Fitbit.
- Open the page for the connected Fitbit device.
- Choose Watch faces.
- Browse the Clocks tab.
- Select a face that is offered for your model and tap Install.
The labels and exact screens can differ by model. The help documentation includes device-specific directions for the Sense and Versa families, so use the instructions shown for your particular Fitbit rather than assuming that a menu from another model will appear.
What you should see when it works
A compatible face appears in the Clocks gallery for the selected device. Installation is handled by the app; you do not upload a Watch Face Format file, sideload an Android package or select a Figma export. If a face is not listed for your model, the gallery is the authority for what can be installed through the supported route.
Why a face can disappear
Google’s Fitbit help page notes that some third-party faces may be removed from the gallery. Availability can therefore change even when a face was previously installed or previously shown in searches. Removal from the gallery is different from a failed Wear OS conversion: it means the Fitbit listing is no longer available through the supported channel.

Wear OS Designer versus Fitbit clocks
| Aspect | Google Watch Face Designer | Fitbit clock gallery |
|---|---|---|
| Primary platform | Wear OS devices, with the announcement specifying Wear OS 4 or newer | Specific connected Fitbit models |
| Face technology | Wear OS Watch Face Format | Face options supplied through Fitbit’s supported gallery |
| Creation or selection method | Figma plugin, followed by Wear OS developer or publishing tools | Browse the Clocks tab in Google Health and choose Install |
| Documented Fitbit import | Not documented | Not applicable; Fitbit faces are selected from the device’s gallery |
| On-device preview | Wear OS device preview | Preview and installation depend on the Fitbit app and model |
| Availability control | Wear OS publication and supported device requirements | Model eligibility and whether the face remains in the Fitbit gallery |
The table separates two decisions that are often confused: where a face was designed and where a compatible face can be installed. A Wear OS export does not become a Fitbit clock merely because both products are associated with Google.
Can you use the design as a Fitbit wallpaper or photo face?
This is a different question from installing an interactive face package. A static PNG or JPEG may resemble a watch face, but the Fitbit documentation cited for this compatibility question does not promise that every Fitbit accepts a user-supplied image as a clock face or wallpaper.
Why Pixel Watch instructions do not answer the Fitbit question
Google documents photo-face customization for Pixel Watch, including choices for photos, colors, layouts and complications. Those instructions apply to Pixel Watch through its own app and on-watch gallery. Pixel Watch and Fitbit should not be treated as interchangeable just because a Pixel Watch includes Fitbit health features. Pixel Watch photo-face support is not proof that a Fitbit model accepts the same image workflow.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →A safe way to check your model
- Open the connected Fitbit device in Google Health.
- Enter Watch faces and inspect the available categories and settings.
- Look for an option explicitly described as a photo, image or custom background face.
- Confirm the option on the exact model you own before designing an image around it.
If no image option appears, the reviewed documentation provides no supported path for turning a Watch Face Designer export into a Fitbit wallpaper. Do not assume that converting the file to a picture will preserve complications, steps, heart-rate fields, animations or touch interactions; a flat image cannot provide those functions by itself.

What happens to complications and interactions?
A Watch Face Designer project can represent dynamic elements that a Wear OS face understands, such as time, complications and supported interactions. Those elements depend on the target platform’s face runtime. If you export only a screenshot or background image, you retain the visual artwork but not the Wear OS behavior.
Fitbit’s gallery faces are the supported way to obtain Fitbit-specific data fields and interactions. A face must be offered for your model for those fields to work. There is no documented step that maps Wear OS complications automatically to Fitbit metrics or translates Watch Face Format XML into a Fitbit face package.

“It is a Google design, so Fitbit should read it”
Brand ownership does not determine file compatibility. The documented target for Watch Face Designer is Wear OS, while Fitbit’s documented installation path is its own model-filtered gallery.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →“I can upload the XML from Watch Face Format”
Watch Face Format is a Wear OS format. The Fitbit instructions do not describe XML upload, sideloading or package conversion. An XML file on a phone does not make it an installable Fitbit clock.

“A Play Store listing should install on Fitbit”
A Wear OS Play Store face is distributed for Wear OS. Fitbit installation still uses the Clocks gallery in Google Health; a Play Store listing is not a documented Fitbit source.
“Pixel Watch photo faces prove Fitbit has the feature”
Pixel Watch has separate face-management instructions and capabilities. Verify the option in the Fitbit app for your model instead of transferring a Pixel Watch procedure to Fitbit.
“If a face vanished, my app is broken”
Third-party faces can be removed from Fitbit’s gallery. Check the current Clocks listing and your device selection before troubleshooting the phone or reinstalling the app.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA practical decision tree
- You want the complete interactive design: use it on a supported Wear OS 4-or-newer device through the Wear OS export and publishing tools. It is not documented as installable on Fitbit.
- You want a Fitbit-compatible interactive face: open your Fitbit in Google Health and choose from the Clocks gallery for that model.
- You want only the artwork: first verify that your exact Fitbit exposes a photo or custom-image face option. If it does not, the design remains artwork rather than a supported Fitbit face.
- The face used to be available: check whether the developer listing is still present; gallery availability can change.
What is and is not established
The documented facts support a clear boundary: Watch Face Designer targets Wear OS and Watch Face Format; Fitbit users install clocks from the connected device’s gallery in Google Health; and no direct conversion or package-install route from the Designer to Fitbit is documented.
What remains model-dependent is static-image use. The cited Fitbit guidance does not establish universal photo-face support, so compatibility must be checked in the app for the specific Fitbit model and software available to it. No reliable percentage of Fitbit models can be stated from the available documentation.
Bottom line for buyers and designers
Design for the platform you intend to use. If the destination is Wear OS, Watch Face Designer’s Watch Face Format workflow is the relevant path. If the destination is Fitbit, select a face offered in that Fitbit’s Clocks gallery. Treat a generated image as a possible visual asset only after your model explicitly offers photo or custom-image faces; do not expect a Wear OS package, XML file or Pixel Watch procedure to install on Fitbit.
