Yes. Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones pair with an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or another Apple device that supports Bluetooth. You can complete setup in the Bose app or directly in the device’s Bluetooth settings. The headphones can remain connected to up to two devices at once, but they play audio from only one source at a time.
What works with an iPhone
Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones use standard Bluetooth pairing, so an iPhone can discover and connect to them like other Bluetooth headphones. Bose provides two supported setup routes:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Bose app: Bose recommends using its app to complete pairing and manage headphone settings. The app is available through Apple’s App Store.
- iPhone Bluetooth settings: You can pair without the app by placing the headphones in pairing mode and selecting them from the iPhone’s Bluetooth list.
The same basic process applies to an iPad or Mac with Bluetooth enabled. Bose’s documentation does not specify a minimum iOS, iPadOS, or macOS version, so do not rely on an invented version requirement. If an Apple device can operate Bluetooth audio and the headphones appear in its discovery list, the normal pairing process is the relevant compatibility test.

Have the headphones charged enough to power on, and keep them close to the Apple device during setup. Turn Bluetooth on before opening the pairing screen. If the headphones were previously connected to another source, putting them explicitly into pairing mode is more reliable than waiting for them to appear automatically.

- On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Bluetooth and leave that screen open while pairing.
- On a Mac, open the Bluetooth controls in macOS settings and display nearby devices.
- Make sure you select the entry for Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones, not an unrelated Bose device nearby.
Do not assume that installing the app is mandatory. Bose recommends it, but Bose also says the Apple device’s own Bluetooth settings can complete pairing.
Pair through the Bose app
The app is useful if you want Bose’s setup flow and additional device-management controls. The exact screen wording can change as the app is updated, but the sequence is straightforward.
- Install and open the Bose app from the Apple App Store.
- Turn on the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones.
- When the app asks to add or set up a product, choose the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones.
- Follow the app’s pairing prompt. If the app asks you to place the headphones in pairing mode, hold the power/Bluetooth control at the Bluetooth position until the Bluetooth indicator flashes blue or the voice prompt announces pairing mode.
- Approve any Bluetooth permission request shown by iOS or iPadOS. Without that permission, the app may not be able to find the headphones.
- Wait for the app to report that the headphones are connected before closing it.
After the initial connection, the headphones should be available from the Apple device’s Bluetooth list as well. The app is not a paid subscription requirement; it is an optional setup and management tool.
Pair directly in iPhone or iPad Bluetooth settings
Use this route when you do not want to install the app or when the app is not finding the headphones.

- Power on the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones.
- Hold the power/Bluetooth control at the Bluetooth position until the Bluetooth indicator flashes blue or the headphones announce pairing mode.
- Look under Other Devices and tap Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones.
- Wait for the device to move the headphones into the connected list. A voice prompt or the Bluetooth status indicator should confirm the connection.
On a Mac, use the equivalent Bluetooth settings screen, select the same headphone name, and wait for the status to change to connected. The first-generation and second-generation products use the same general Bluetooth pairing concept, although their specifications are not identical.
How to tell whether pairing succeeded
A successful pairing has two separate signs: the headphones appear as connected in the Apple device’s Bluetooth settings, and audio output is routed to them. Start a short audio clip and check the output selector if sound continues through the iPhone, iPad, or Mac speakers.
If the headphones are listed but not connected, tap their name once. If they connect but audio remains on the built-in speakers, open the playback or output selector in the app you are using and choose the Bose headphones. This is an audio-routing issue, not necessarily a failed Bluetooth pairing.
Using the headphones with two Apple devices
The owner’s guides for both generations describe Bluetooth multipoint. The headphones can be actively connected to up to two devices at the same time. For example, they can maintain connections to an iPhone and an iPad, or an iPhone and a Mac, subject to the two-device limit.

| Behavior | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Maximum simultaneous connections | Up to two devices |
| Audio playback | One device at a time |
| Switching method | Pause audio on the current device, then start audio on the other connected device |
| Multipoint control | The Bose app can manage or turn multipoint off |
Multipoint is not the same as Apple account-level handoff. Bose’s material supports two-device Bluetooth multipoint and manual stream switching; it does not promise automatic handoff across every device signed in to one Apple account.
Switch audio from an iPhone to an iPad or Mac
When both devices are connected through multipoint, switching is deliberate rather than an automatic Apple-style transfer.
- Pause the audio, video, or call audio playing on the first Apple device.
- On the second connected device, start the audio you want to hear.
- Allow a moment for the headphones to move the active stream to that device.
If the second device does not take over, stop playback completely on the first device rather than leaving an app paused with an active audio session. Then verify that the second device still shows the headphones as connected. Starting playback on a device that is not one of the two active connections will not bypass the two-device limit; pair that device first or disconnect one of the existing connections.

Managing or disabling multipoint
The Bose app provides controls for multipoint. Use it when you need to see or manage the two connected sources, or when automatic switching between two active devices is inconvenient. Turning multipoint off leaves the headphones operating with a single active Bluetooth source, which can make troubleshooting simpler and prevents a second device from taking the connection unexpectedly.

If you regularly use only one iPhone, disabling multipoint can reduce confusion about which device is currently holding the connection. If you move between an iPhone and an iPad or Mac, leave it enabled and use the pause-then-play procedure to switch streams.
First generation versus second generation
Identify the generation before relying on codec or Bluetooth-version information. Bose announced QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) on September 10, 2025. The announcement lists Bluetooth Core 5.4, SBC and AAC codecs, multipoint connectivity, and aptX Adaptive for the second-generation model.
| Specification or behavior | QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (1st Gen) | QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone and Apple-device pairing | Supported through the Bose app or device Bluetooth settings | Supported through the Bose app or device Bluetooth settings |
| Multipoint | Up to two connected devices; one plays audio at a time | Up to two connected devices; one plays audio at a time |
| Bluetooth version | Not stated in the supplied Bose material | Bluetooth Core 5.4 |
| Listed codecs | Not stated in the supplied Bose material | SBC, AAC, and aptX Adaptive |
The table separates what Bose documents for each generation from what is not specified. Do not transfer second-generation specifications to a first-generation pair.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →What the codec information means for an iPhone
For second-generation headphones, Bose lists SBC and AAC alongside aptX Adaptive. Bose’s support explanation ties the special aptX Adaptive behavior to Snapdragon Sound-certified devices, and the related context is compatible Android hardware. That is not evidence that an iPhone provides aptX Adaptive or Snapdragon Sound benefits.

- SPATIAL AUDIO HEADPHONES: Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones with spatial audio give you an immersive experience that makes music feel more real; CustomTune technology offers personalized sound, shaped to you
- NOISE CANCELING HEADPHONES: These wireless noise cancelling headphones feature Quiet Mode, Aware Mode and Immersion Mode, which combines full noise cancellation and Bose Immersive Audio
- HEADPHONES WITH MIC: Microphones focus on the sound of your voice and the bluetooth headphones with microphone filter out background noise for the clearest phone calls of any Bose headphones
- COMFORTABLE HEADPHONES: Soft ear cushions hug your ears, the band spreads pressure evenly and elevated materials let you make a statement with these noise cancelling over-the-ear headphones
- WIRELESS HEADPHONES BLUETOOTH: Advanced Bluetooth 5.3 offers connection within 30 feet of your device; SimpleSync allows you to sync with a Bose smart soundbar so you can listen to TV at your own volume
The practical answer is therefore simple: an iPhone can pair and play audio, but Bose’s published material does not establish a complete Apple codec matrix. Avoid choosing between generations on the assumption that an iPhone will use every codec listed for the second-generation model. Codec selection can depend on the source device and its supported Bluetooth implementation.
Troubleshooting pairing problems
The headphones do not appear in Bluetooth settings
- Confirm the headphones are powered on.
- Hold the power/Bluetooth control at the Bluetooth position until the indicator flashes blue or the voice prompt announces pairing mode; simply turning the headphones on is not always enough.
- Keep the headphones close to the iPhone, iPad, or Mac while the device scans.
- Turn Bluetooth off and back on in the Apple device’s settings, then leave the settings screen open while placing the headphones into pairing mode again.
The device shows the headphones but will not connect
- Tap the headphone name again in the Bluetooth list.
- If an old entry remains, use the Apple device’s option to forget or remove that Bluetooth device, then repeat the pairing steps.
- Check whether the headphones are already actively connected to two other devices. Disconnect one of those sources or turn multipoint off in the Bose app before trying again.
The connection works but sound comes from the Apple device
- Verify that the headphones are marked connected, not merely saved under previously paired devices.
- Choose the headphones in the current app’s audio-output selector.
- Pause playback on another connected Apple device if multipoint is enabled, then start playback on the device you intend to use.
The app cannot find an already paired headset
First check the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings. If the headphones are connected there, close and reopen the Bose app and follow its add-product flow. If the Apple device has retained a stale pairing, remove that entry and place the headphones back into explicit pairing mode before trying the app again.
Limits Bose does not specify
Bose’s available product information and owner’s guides do not publish a minimum iOS, iPadOS, or macOS version for this compatibility claim. They also do not provide a complete list of every Apple device model that has been tested, nor do they describe Apple account-wide automatic handoff. Those details should be treated as unspecified rather than inferred from the fact that ordinary Bluetooth pairing works.
Recommended Free Tools
Accordingly, the safe expectation is Bluetooth audio pairing, Bose-app setup if desired, and two-device multipoint with manual stream switching. Features outside that scope require confirmation for the particular Apple device and headphone generation.
Which setup should you choose?
| Your situation | Best route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want the guided setup and multipoint controls | Bose app | Bose recommends it and it can manage multipoint |
| You want the fastest connection without installing an app | Apple Bluetooth settings | Bose supports direct pairing from the device settings |
| You switch between an iPhone and iPad or Mac | Enable multipoint | Up to two devices can remain connected, with manual pause-and-play switching |
| You use one iPhone and experience connection confusion | Use one active connection or disable multipoint | A single source avoids competing Bluetooth connections |
For ordinary iPhone listening, no special adapter or accessory is required. Pair the headphones once, select them as the audio output, and use the Bose app only if you want its additional management controls.
