Check the edition before you connect anything
Packaging and product names are easy to confuse. Confirm that the label identifies Arctis GameBuds for Xbox, rather than the PlayStation edition.

How to set up GameBuds for Xbox
- Identify the Xbox model. Read the product and dongle labels. You need the Xbox edition with an Xbox mode, not the PlayStation edition.
- Charge before testing. Place both earbuds in the case and give them enough charge for setup. Remove them only after the case indicates they are ready. A low battery can look like a pairing or audio fault.
- Connect the dongle. Plug the 2.4 GHz dongle into the Xbox. Use the supplied USB-C-to-USB-A converter when the console’s connection requires USB-A. Keep the dongle where it has a clear path to the seating position; avoid hiding it behind a large metal obstruction if your console layout permits a better position.
- Select Xbox mode on the dongle. Use the mode control marked Xbox. The other position is PlayStation/PC and is not the setting to use for Xbox console audio. The reviewed product information identifies the two modes but does not publish a complete button-by-button pairing sequence, so follow the mode markings and the current product manual if the indicators on your unit differ.
- Turn on or remove the earbuds. With the dongle connected and in Xbox mode, take the earbuds from the case and allow the wireless link to establish. - Confirm the console’s audio output. Open the Xbox audio settings while the dongle is connected. - Test game audio. Start a game with a known sound cue, such as a menu selection or a short offline session. Raise the Xbox volume and the earbuds’ own volume separately; either control being at minimum can make a working connection appear silent.
- Test party chat. Join an Xbox party or the voice channel in a multiplayer game. Ask another participant whether your microphone is audible, then speak while listening for their reply. Check the account’s communication and privacy permissions if you can hear others but they cannot hear you.
- Test the microphone in the actual game. Party chat and a game’s built-in voice channel can use different mute, privacy or chat-mix controls. A successful party test does not prove that every game’s voice channel is configured the same way.
Do not assume that a phone’s Bluetooth connection is evidence that the Xbox link is configured correctly. Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz are separate connection paths, and the manufacturer presents Bluetooth as a mobile-device option.
Using Bluetooth without losing the Xbox connection
SteelSeries lists Bluetooth 5.3 as a quick-switch feature for mobile devices. That can let you listen to a phone or answer a call without treating the phone connection as the Xbox audio route. Keep the 2.4 GHz dongle in Xbox mode whenever you want console game sound and party chat.
For a phone, enable Bluetooth on the mobile device, select the GameBuds in the phone’s Bluetooth list, and follow the earbud’s pairing prompts. When returning to Xbox play, select or restore the 2.4 GHz connection according to the product’s controls. If both devices compete for the active connection, disconnect Bluetooth on the phone temporarily and retest the Xbox dongle.

Troubleshooting by symptom
No game audio
- Check that the dongle is plugged into the Xbox rather than only into a charger or another device.
- Verify the dongle is in Xbox mode. PlayStation/PC mode is the wrong mode for this console.
- Confirm the earbuds have charge and are not still seated in a case that has not released them for use.
- Review Xbox output and chat-mixer settings, then raise both the console and earbud volume.
- Remove the dongle and reconnect it directly or through the supplied converter, then allow the earbuds to reconnect.
You hear the game, but party chat does not work
- Check whether the microphone is muted at the earbud or console level.
- Confirm the signed-in Xbox account can use multiplayer voice communication.
- Look at party-chat output and chat-mixer controls; game-only audio can result from a routing or balance setting.
- Ask another party member to verify your microphone rather than relying only on a local indicator.

Others cannot hear you, but the microphone appears active

The earbuds connect to a phone instead of the Xbox
Temporarily disable Bluetooth on the phone, then put the dongle back in Xbox mode and reconnect it to the console. A phone connection can be active even when the console dongle is correctly installed; it is a separate radio path, not proof that the Xbox connection has failed.
Only one earbud produces sound
Return both earbuds to the case, verify that both are charging, and repeat the normal product pairing process. Then test a console menu sound before launching a game. If one side remains silent after a fresh charge and reconnection, consult the current product instructions for a reset or service option rather than improvising a pairing sequence.

Audio cuts out or sounds intermittent
- Move the dongle to a less obstructed USB position using the included converter if that gives it a clearer line to the earbuds.
- Separate the dongle from crowded USB accessories where possible.
- Check charge levels and close the phone’s Bluetooth connection during the test.
- Try a second game or the Xbox dashboard. If the problem appears only in one title, investigate that game’s audio and voice settings before blaming the earbuds.
Battery figures and what they mean
SteelSeries publishes 10 hours per charge for the earbuds and up to 40 hours total with the charging case. The stated total is based on 2.4 GHz operation with noise control turned off. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results; actual runtime can vary with settings, volume, call use, temperature and battery age.
For a long session, charge the case as well as the earbuds. If the earbuds shut down during a party, first check battery status before changing console settings. Runtime claims do not indicate how long the microphone will operate in every game or whether a particular noise-control setting is enabled.

The official product information supports the general compatibility answer: the Xbox edition is made for Xbox gaming, uses a dual-mode dongle, and includes a microphone for game chat. It does not establish that every game, Xbox dashboard version, firmware state or individual unit will behave identically. Game-specific voice channels can have their own mute and privacy controls, and console settings can override what the earbuds themselves support.

There is also no basis here for claiming that the Xbox edition has better sound or microphone quality than the PlayStation edition. The meaningful difference for this question is the dongle mode and intended console compatibility.
