Yes. You can use an LG TV as an additional display for a Windows PC or Mac, most directly by connecting the computer to the TV with HDMI. On Windows, choose Extend to make the TV a separate part of your desktop; choose Duplicate to show the same image on both screens. Wireless sharing is also possible on supported device combinations, but it should not be assumed to provide an extended desktop.
Choose how you want to connect
| Option | What it does | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| HDMI | Connects the computer directly to an HDMI input on the TV. Windows can extend or duplicate the desktop. | The computer must have an HDMI video output, or a compatible adapter connected to a video-capable port. Confirm that the cable or adapter supports the picture mode you want. |
| Wireless screen sharing | Sends the computer’s screen to the TV without an HDMI cable, if both devices support the required feature. | Compatibility and steps vary by TV, computer, and operating system. LG’s Mac instructions require both devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network; Windows support depends on the PC and TV. |
HDMI is generally the more straightforward choice for a separate desktop display. LG describes its wireless option as screen sharing or mirroring; unless your specific devices are confirmed to support wireless extended-desktop mode, treat it as showing the same screen rather than adding a separate workspace.

Connect an LG TV by HDMI
- Check the computer’s video output. Connect an HDMI output on the computer to an HDMI input on the TV. If the computer has no HDMI port, use an adapter compatible with its video-capable output. A port or adapter that does not carry video will not work as a display connection.
- Select the TV input. On the LG TV, open External Input or Home Hub and select the HDMI port you used. The exact menu name varies by model.
- Choose the desktop behavior. In Windows, press Windows+P and select Extend for a separate desktop area or Duplicate to mirror the computer screen. On a Mac, follow the display prompt and arrange screens in macOS; the available steps depend on the macOS version.
- Set a supported resolution. In the computer’s display settings, select the TV and choose its recommended resolution. Check the manual for the exact TV model for supported resolutions and refresh rates rather than assuming all LG TVs accept the same modes.
- Choose audio output if needed. If you want sound from the TV, select the LG TV as the computer’s playback device. Some cables or adapters, including certain DVI-to-HDMI adapters, may not transmit audio.
Use wireless screen sharing when supported
LG provides wireless sharing instructions for Windows and Mac, but the feature depends on the capabilities of both devices. For the Mac method in LG’s guide, open Control Center → Screen Mirroring, select the TV, and enter a code if one appears on the TV. The Mac and TV should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Windows steps depend on whether the PC supports wireless display and on the TV model.
Recommended Free Tools
Wireless performance depends on the network environment. LG advises checking for nearby Wi-Fi interference, trying the 5 GHz band, and keeping the router, computer, and TV close together if the picture stutters. These steps may help, but they do not guarantee a particular level of responsiveness.

Make the picture fit and stay stable
If the TV reports “Unsupported Mode”
Set the computer to a resolution supported by the TV, starting with the recommended resolution in the computer’s display settings. LG also identifies graphics-driver problems as a possible factor. The supported modes are model-specific: LG Support lists 1920 × 1080 at 60 Hz for the product covered by one support document, but that example is not a specification for every LG TV.
If the image is cropped, enlarged, or cut off
First select the TV’s recommended PC resolution. On certain LG products released in 2018 or earlier, LG’s guidance says changing the HDMI input label to PC may also be relevant. Some newer models have picture-size or Just Scan controls; use the model’s menu guide to find the applicable setting.

If the picture jitters or the connection is unstable
Check the selected resolution, the external-input configuration, and the cable’s condition. LG recommends an authentic HDMI cable for PC picture troubleshooting. A cable or adapter that cannot handle the connection correctly can cause video problems.
If there is no sound from the TV
Confirm that the cable and adapter carry audio, then choose the LG TV as the computer’s playback output. The picture can work even when an adapter does not pass audio.

Check whether your particular TV is suitable for desktop work
An LG TV can function as a second display, but that does not make every model equivalent to a computer monitor. The useful resolution, refresh rate, available picture settings, and how comfortable text looks at your viewing distance depend on the exact TV and computer. LG’s general instructions note that menus vary by model, and its supported-mode documentation applies to the product named in that document.
- Look up the TV’s supported PC resolutions and refresh rates in its manual.
- Check that the computer’s output and any adapter support the same target mode.
- Consider whether the TV’s text rendering and viewing distance suit the work you plan to do.
- Confirm that your preferred connection supports audio if you want sound from the TV.
LG USA Support’s guide, How to Display Your PC Screen on Your LG TV (Wired or Wireless), describes HDMI as a wired option and wireless screen sharing for supported Windows PCs and Macs. Its troubleshooting guidance, LG TV – Troubleshooting Poor Video Quality When Connected to a PC, warns that an incorrect resolution can cause a cut-off or enlarged picture. Because the title does not identify a TV or computer model, exact compatibility and menu instructions must be checked for your devices.
