Google’s Android guidance covers AirTags in unwanted-tracker alerts and manual scans. The official sources reviewed do not establish that Samsung phones can set up AirTags for everyday item tracking.
What “use an AirTag with a Samsung phone” can mean
Detect an unknown AirTag
Yes. Google lists Apple AirTags among the trackers supported by Android’s unknown-tracker alerts. Android can alert you if a tracker separated from its owner is determined to be moving with you over time, and you can also run a manual scan for supported trackers currently nearby and separated from their owner. These are safety tools, not a way to claim or manage the AirTag as your own.

Pair an AirTag to find your own belongings
The reviewed official sources do not establish that you can set up an AirTag with a Samsung phone for ordinary item tracking. If you want a tracker for keys, luggage, or another belonging, look for one intended for your phone’s ecosystem and verify the exact model’s phone, operating-system, app, and regional requirements before buying.
How Android’s AirTag safety features work
Automatic unwanted-tracker alerts
Google says an alert can appear when an unknown tracker is separated from its owner and is determined to be moving with you over time. The alert may identify the tracker as an AirTag. Open the alert to see a map of where Android detected the tracker with you; Google says this map does not show where the owner checked the tracker’s location.

Manual scan
A manual scan checks for supported trackers that are nearby and separated from their owner at the time of the scan. Google says the scan takes about 10 seconds. A scan result does not by itself establish that someone is tracking you: the tracker may simply be nearby and away from its owner.
Play a sound and understand its limits
If an alert identifies a tracker, you can choose Play sound to help locate it. Google notes that the sound may not work if the tracker is out of Bluetooth range, its identifier has changed, or other conditions apply. Google’s Find Nearby guidance applies to Find Hub network-compatible trackers; it should not be assumed to provide that feature for an AirTag.

Turn on alerts or run a scan on a Samsung phone
Google’s documented settings route depends on Android version, and Samsung menu labels can vary by software version and region. If the route below does not match your phone, search Settings for Unknown tracker alerts.

Automatic alerts require Location to be on. For manual scans, Google says Android 11 and later do not require Location to be on; Android 10 and earlier use Location and Bluetooth.

What to do if an alert worries you
- Open the alert and review its map, then try Play sound if available.
- If you find a tracker and feel unsafe, go to a safe public place and contact law enforcement or someone you trust, as Google advises.
- Turning off Bluetooth, Location, or Airplane Mode on your phone does not disable the tracker. To stop it from tracking, disable the tracker itself by following its manufacturer’s instructions.
Choosing a tracker for a Samsung phone
Start with ecosystem compatibility rather than the brand name alone. Google’s Android documentation identifies Find Hub-compatible tracker tags as a supported category for unknown-tracker alerts, but that does not verify every product’s setup, item-finding features, or local availability. Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 is another product a Samsung owner might investigate, but the reviewed official material does not establish its current phone and app requirements or regional availability. Confirm those details for the exact model before purchasing.
When comparing options, check the supported phone and operating system, the network used to locate the item, whether nearby finding is available, setup requirements, alert and out-of-range behavior, battery and form factor, and availability where you live. Apple and Google’s joint announcement on May 13, 2024 named Chipolo, eufy, Jio, Motorola, and Pebblebee as manufacturers that had committed to future cross-platform compatibility. That announcement is not proof that any specific model is currently compatible, so verify the individual product.
