Yes—if the specific Qi2 power bank supports pass-through charging. Pass-through lets the bank receive power through USB-C while it wirelessly charges a phone. Qi2 branding alone does not guarantee this feature. Check the exact model’s manual or support page for simultaneous charging, reduced output and temperature limits.
What pass-through charging means
A power bank normally has two separate jobs: its USB-C port accepts energy to refill the internal battery, and its wireless pad sends energy to a phone. With pass-through charging, those functions operate at the same time. You connect the bank to a USB-C charger and place a compatible phone on its Qi2 pad.

The bank’s charging circuit decides how incoming power is divided. Some models continue wireless output at a reduced level; some maintain a higher output; others stop wireless charging when their temperature or power limits are reached. The feature is therefore a product specification, not an automatic consequence of Qi2 certification.

For example, Belkin’s support page says its BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank with Qi2 15W models BPD006, BPD007 and BPD008 support pass-through charging. Xiaomi’s support documentation also says its magnetic power banks can wirelessly charge a device while the bank itself is charging. Those statements apply to the documented models, not every Qi2 bank.

Qi2 describes wireless compatibility and safety requirements. The Wireless Power Consortium says Qi Certified products are protected from heat and can detect foreign objects, but you should still verify certification and simultaneous-use behavior for the exact product you own.
How to check whether your model supports it
Look for one of these phrases in the manufacturer’s manual, FAQ or technical specifications: “pass-through charging,” “simultaneous charging,” “charge the power bank and device at the same time,” or “recharge while charging a device.” A statement that the bank is Qi2-certified, magnetic or rated for 15W wireless output is not enough by itself.
- Find the precise model number. The model printed on the rear label or packaging matters; two banks in the same product family can have different charging behavior.
- Read the USB-C input section. Confirm the required charger and input rating before testing. Some manuals specify an input wattage or USB-C power profile.
- Check the simultaneous-output note. Look for a lower wireless wattage, charging-order requirement or a warning that wireless output stops at high temperature.
- Check the support date and region. Manuals can differ by market or revision. Use the manufacturer page that matches your model and country.
Documented examples
| Documented product or family | What the manufacturer says | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Belkin BPD006, BPD007 and BPD008 | Supports pass-through: a device can charge while the bank recharges through USB-C. | Belkin lists output details by model on its support FAQ; do not generalize the statement to other models. |
| Xiaomi magnetic power banks | Can wirelessly charge a device while the power bank itself is charging. | The statement covers Xiaomi’s documented magnetic banks; consult the support answer and your model manual. |
| Clas Ohlson HKPB1562-050C | Allows simultaneous use. | Wireless output is reduced to 5W during simultaneous charging for safety, according to the English manual version dated 2024-11-13 (PDF manual). |
| Some Noise power banks | Pass-through may be disabled. | Noise attributes this behavior to thermal or power limitations and advises charging the bank first (help-center article). |
What changes when both devices charge
Do not assume that a bank advertised as “15W Qi2” will deliver 15W wirelessly while it is refilling. The rating may describe ordinary wireless use with the bank disconnected from USB-C. Simultaneous operation can trigger a lower output, a slower phone charge or a temporary shutdown.

| Behavior | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Reduced wireless wattage | The phone still charges, but more slowly. The Clas Ohlson HKPB1562-050C manual specifies 5W wireless output during simultaneous charging. |
| Model-specific pass-through output | The bank may support pass-through but publish different limits for different capacities or revisions. Use the exact model’s table rather than a family-wide assumption. |
| Thermal or power cutoff | The bank may stop wireless output while it cools or while input power is insufficient. Noise documents this as a product limitation. |
| Normal warming | Wireless charging commonly produces warmth. Excessive heat, warning lights or repeated cutoffs require investigation rather than continued use. |
There is no universal throughput figure or universal battery-life result for pass-through use. The available manufacturer instructions establish model-specific behavior, not a cross-brand guarantee about charging speed or long-term battery wear.
How to use pass-through charging safely
- Confirm support. Read the model’s manual or support page and verify that simultaneous USB-C input and wireless output are allowed.
- Use the specified USB-C charger and cable. Meet the input requirement in the manual. An underpowered adapter can cause the bank to alternate between charging and output or disable output entirely.
- Prepare the phone and case. Align the phone’s magnetic ring with the pad. Remove metal plates, wallets, magnetic cards or unusually thick cases. Xiaomi recommends a non-metal case no thicker than 2mm for its documented wireless banks.
- Remove foreign objects. Keys, coins and other metal items must not sit between the phone and pad. The Clas Ohlson manual specifically warns against this situation.
- Connect USB-C first, then place the phone. This makes it easier to confirm that the bank recognizes its input before wireless output begins. Follow your manual if it specifies the opposite order.
- Check the indicators. Confirm that the bank shows input charging and that the phone displays wireless charging. A blinking error or absent phone animation indicates a problem, not successful pass-through.
- Monitor temperature and stability. Keep the bank and phone on a hard, ventilated surface. Stop if either becomes unusually hot, repeatedly disconnects or displays an over-temperature warning.
- Disconnect and cool it if necessary. If output stops, unplug USB-C and let the bank return to room temperature before trying again. If the manual says pass-through is unavailable, charge the bank first and use it afterward.
Phone, case and Qi2 compatibility
Qi Certified devices are designed to work across manufacturers, but the available speed depends on the Qi generation and capabilities of both products. A phone can attach magnetically yet charge slowly if it lacks the relevant Qi2 profile or if the case prevents proper alignment.
Xiaomi states that its magnetic power banks support iPhone 12, 13, 14 and 15 series models that support magnetic wireless charging. It does not guarantee compatibility with every other phone model. Treat that as a product-family example, not a universal Qi2 compatibility list.

Heat and protection features
Some warmth during wireless charging is expected. Xiaomi identifies metal objects, the phone case and high ambient temperature as factors that can increase heat. Its global FAQ says the 6000mAh model uses a rapid red indicator to signal over-temperature protection.
Recommended Free Tools
The Wireless Power Consortium says Qi Certified products include heat protection and foreign-object detection. That protection does not make every setup risk-free: ventilation, alignment, accessories and the phone’s own thermal behavior still matter. Certification also does not prove that a product supports pass-through; verify both questions separately.
If a phone or bank becomes too hot to handle comfortably, charging repeatedly pauses, or an indicator reports over-temperature, stop the session. Remove the case or metal object, move the setup to a cooler surface and retry only after it has cooled. Persistent warnings point to a compatibility, charger or hardware problem that the manufacturer should address.

Troubleshooting when the bank will not charge the phone
The bank recharges but wireless output is off
First check whether the manual permits pass-through. A product may intentionally disable output while its battery is charging, as Noise documents for models affected by thermal or power limits. In that case, let the bank refill and then use it normally.
The phone starts and stops charging
Verify that the USB-C adapter meets the input requirement, then remove the case and any metal accessory. Recenter the phone and test on a cool, hard surface. An intermittent connection can also occur when the bank’s input power is too low to support both functions.

The phone charges much more slowly
Look for a simultaneous-use output value in the manual. A lower rate can be intentional; the Clas Ohlson HKPB1562-050C manual specifies 5W in this mode. Do not treat the bank’s maximum Qi2 rating as the pass-through rate.

The bank or phone becomes hot
Stop charging, remove metal objects and thick cases, improve ventilation and allow the devices to cool. Xiaomi specifically recommends checking those factors and ambient temperature. Repeated thermal warnings should be handled according to the manufacturer’s support instructions.
The phone is not compatible
Check whether the phone supports magnetic wireless charging and whether the case allows coil alignment. Qi2 compatibility is not established merely by a magnetic appearance or a USB-C connection. If your manufacturer does not list the phone, wired charging may be the more reliable option.
When to choose wired charging instead
Use a USB cable from the bank to the phone when you need predictable output, the phone does not align magnetically, or the manual limits wireless power during pass-through. Wired charging also avoids the alignment and foreign-object issues associated with a wireless pad. If the bank’s instructions say to charge it first, follow that direction rather than attempting to force simultaneous use.
What to compare before buying a Qi2 power bank
Compare the exact model’s documentation, not just the Qi2 logo or advertised peak wattage. These are the decision points that affect real-world simultaneous use:
- Pass-through support: Is simultaneous USB-C input and wireless output explicitly stated?
- Wireless output while active: Is a reduced value specified, such as 5W, or is the output not stated?
- USB-C input requirement: What charger wattage or charging profile is required?
- Phone and case compatibility: Are your phone model and case thickness listed or supported?
- Thermal behavior: Does the bank reduce output, shut off or display an over-temperature warning?
- Foreign-object protection: Does the documentation describe detection and safe placement?
- Manufacturer instructions: Does it advise charging the bank first under certain conditions?
If a specification sheet does not mention pass-through, treat support as unconfirmed and ask the manufacturer before purchase. “Qi2,” “magnetic” and “15W” describe other capabilities; they are not substitutes for an explicit simultaneous-charging statement.
The practical answer
You can use a Qi2 power bank while it is charging only when that exact bank supports pass-through. Connect the specified USB-C charger, place a compatible phone correctly, and expect that wireless output may be slower or may stop if the bank reaches a thermal or power limit. When the manual does not permit simultaneous use, charge the bank first and use it afterward.
