In desktop YouTube Studio, go to Earn > Supers and turn off Super Chat; then check that monetization is still on in the stream’s Live Control Room settings. Regular live chat can stay on.
Turn off Super Chat without disabling ads
- Sign in to YouTube Studio on a desktop computer.
- Open Earn > Supers.
- Switch off Super Chat and confirm the change. Leave Super Stickers on or off according to your preference; it has a separate switch. YouTube Help: Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility, availability, and policies.
- Open the stream’s settings in the Live Control Room and check that Monetization remains On. YouTube Help: Manage live stream ad breaks.
Super Chat and live-stream ad monetization are separate controls. YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are enabled automatically when live-stream monetization is on. Mid-roll ads have separate controls: they can be automatic, scheduled, or manual.
Keep ordinary live chat available
Turning off Live chat also makes Super Chat and Super Stickers unavailable, but it removes regular viewer chat too. If viewers should still be able to talk, leave Live chat on and use the separate Super Chat switch. The creator-side filter that shows only Fan funding purchases changes what the creator sees; it does not hide ordinary chat from viewers or prevent them from participating. What to expect from ads and Supers
Ads may not appear in every slot
Keeping monetization on preserves the ad setting, but it does not guarantee that an ad will run at a particular moment. YouTube states that ad slots are not guaranteed to serve; its ad systems determine whether an available slot shows an ad. Ads are also turned off for a live stream embedded on an external site with autoplay. YouTube Help: Manage live stream ad breaks.

Eligibility can limit Supers
Supers availability depends on channel and stream eligibility, the applicable Commerce Product Module, location, and stream settings. Super Chat and Super Stickers are unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, made-for-kids, or YouTube Giving fundraiser videos, and when live chat or comments are off. Turning off Supers affects a separate revenue source
YouTube says creators receive 70% of Supers revenue confirmed by Google, calculated after deductions for local sales tax and iOS App Store fees. That revenue is separate from ad monetization; disabling Super Chat does not itself turn off the stream’s ad setting. YouTube Help: YouTube earnings overview.
