You must complete a Lunastra hunt by slaying her; pitfall traps, shock traps, and tranquilizers will not turn it into a capture.
Why you can’t capture Lunastra
Lunastra is classified as an Elder Dragon in Monster Hunter: World. The game’s capture method depends on catching a monster in a trap, but Elder Dragons cannot be trapped. Without that step, tranquilizer items cannot complete a capture. Kiranico’s Monster Hunter: World guide to trapping and capturing explains the rule, and the Monster Hunter Wiki’s Lunastra entry identifies her as an Elder Dragon.

How capture works for monsters that can be captured
- Weaken the monster until it is ready to be captured.
- Catch it in a pitfall trap or shock trap.
- Use tranquilizer items to complete the capture.
All stages matter. Since the trap stage cannot work on Lunastra, weakening her further or using more tranquilizers does not provide a workaround.

Do pitfall or shock traps work on Lunastra?
No. Changing trap type does not make an Elder Dragon capturable: neither a pitfall trap nor a shock trap can create a capture opportunity against Lunastra. A Lunastra-specific community strategy guide likewise says traps are useless against Elder Dragons.

This is about the capture mechanic, not whether you can place a trap item in the environment. A trap placed near or beneath Lunastra will not enable you to capture her.
What to do instead
Approach a Lunastra quest as a slay hunt and finish the objective by defeating her. Save your pitfall traps, shock traps, and tranquilizers for monsters that can be captured.
