Yes, you can transfer compatible PS4 saved data to a PS5 to continue playing the PS4 edition of a Kingdom Hearts game. Sony supports transfer by console-to-console transfer, USB drive, or PlayStation Plus cloud storage. That is separate from importing a PS4 save into a distinct native PS5 edition: the general PlayStation guidance does not confirm that any Kingdom Hearts PS5 edition accepts PS4 saves or automatically awards its trophies.
What transfers—and what does not
| What you want to do | What the official guidance supports | What it does not confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Continue the PS4 edition on PS5 | Sony documents transferring PS4 saved data to PS5. The PS5 also plays the overwhelming majority of PS4 games, though compatibility is not universal. Sony’s transfer instructions and PS5 backward-compatibility guidance cover these general cases. | That every Kingdom Hearts title or save will work in every player’s circumstances. |
| Import a PS4 save into a separate native PS5 edition | No Kingdom Hearts-specific import policy was confirmed in the official sources cited here. | Save import steps, trophy auto-unlocks, or whether either feature is supported for a particular PS5 edition. |
| Keep trophies synchronized to your account | Sony recommends synchronizing trophy information on the source console before a console-to-console transfer. | That the PS4 edition’s trophy unlocks will automatically unlock again in a separate PS5 edition. |
Transfer a PS4 save to PS5 to play the PS4 edition
For console-to-console transfer, use the same PlayStation account on both consoles, update both systems, synchronize trophy information on the PS4, and connect the consoles to the same network. After initial PS5 setup, the transfer of PS4 saved data applies only to the user signed in on the PS5.

- On the PS4, sign in to the account associated with the save and synchronize trophy information.
- Connect the PS4 and PS5 to the same network and make sure both consoles are up to date.
- On PS5, go to Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer and follow the on-screen instructions.
Sony also documents two alternatives: copy PS4 saved data to a USB drive and then to the PS5, or download it from PlayStation Plus cloud storage if you have access to that service. See Sony’s transfer guide for the applicable instructions.
Do Kingdom Hearts trophies carry over?
Trophy synchronization and trophy migration between game editions are different. Synchronizing on the PS4 updates trophy information associated with your account; Sony recommends doing this before a console transfer. It does not establish that a distinct native PS5 edition will recognize PS4-edition trophies or award its corresponding trophies automatically.

For a specific Kingdom Hearts title, rely on an official statement from Square Enix or PlayStation about that title and edition before assuming trophies will auto-unlock. The general Sony transfer guidance does not answer that version-specific question.

- Check that you are signed in to the same account used for the original save.
- Confirm that you are launching the PS4 edition on PS5, rather than expecting a separate native PS5 edition to import the save.
- Review Sony’s transfer instructions for the route you used and confirm the saved data was copied or downloaded to the PS5.
Sony’s general guidance does not identify Kingdom Hearts-specific causes such as a title, region, or version mismatch, so those should not be treated as confirmed explanations without official title-specific support.
