Not automatically. Australian employees can request annual leave for Grand Theft Auto VI’s November 19, 2026 launch, but they cannot assume the day is approved just because the game is launching. An employer may refuse a request only if the refusal is reasonable, and the timing of leave must be agreed between employee and employer. Ask early and check the rules that apply at your workplace.
Can you take November 19 off work for GTA 6?
You can request the day as annual leave if you have accrued paid leave, but your request is not approval. The Fair Work Ombudsman says employees need to request annual leave before taking it and that an employer must not unreasonably refuse a request. Whether a refusal is reasonable depends on the circumstances and any applicable workplace terms.

There is no minimum or maximum period of annual leave that can be taken at one time when you and your employer agree, so a single day or part-day can be requested. The date and length of leave are agreed between you and your employer. The Fair Work Ombudsman’s guidance on taking annual leave explains the general process.
How much paid annual leave might you have?
Under the general Fair Work system, non-casual employees accrue four weeks of paid annual leave for each year of service, based on ordinary hours. Some qualifying shiftworkers accrue five weeks; eligibility depends on the applicable award or registered agreement and its definition or conditions for shiftworkers. Leave accrues over time, and the Ombudsman says it can be taken as soon as it has accrued, including during the first year of service. These are general entitlements, not a guarantee that you have enough accrued leave for the date you want. Check your current leave balance and the terms that cover your job.
What to do before you request launch day off
- Check your leave balance. Confirm how much annual leave you have accrued and whether you are eligible to use it for the requested date.
- Check the applicable workplace rules. Look at your award, registered agreement, employment contract and workplace policy. These may explain how to make a request and can include rules about taking, directing or granting leave.
- Submit the request promptly. Ask for November 19, 2026, using your workplace’s normal process. Do not treat the date as approved until your employer agrees.
- If refused, ask why. Review the reason alongside your workplace terms. The general standard is that refusal must be reasonable, but the outcome depends on the circumstances and applicable instrument.
For help with a specific workplace issue, consult the Fair Work Ombudsman rather than assuming a general rule determines the outcome in every case.

If you are a casual or do not have enough paid leave
Casual employees do not receive paid annual leave under the general entitlement. If you are casual, or do not have enough accrued leave, you can ask your employer about unpaid leave or another agreed arrangement. The general guidance cited here does not establish an automatic right to unpaid recreational leave, so get agreement before planning around time off.
Check for a public holiday on your roster
If a public holiday falls on a day you would normally work while you are on paid annual leave, it is generally treated as a public holiday and is not deducted from your annual leave balance. Whether that affects your plans depends on your ordinary roster and the calendar for your location. Check the applicable state or territory public holiday calendar and your workplace terms; the Fair Work Ombudsman’s public holiday guidance explains the general rule.

GTA 6 launch details to plan around
