You can wear a Samsung Gear S3 in the shower under Samsung’s stated water-resistance conditions, but IP68 alone does not mean it is suitable for swimming. Treat it as water-resistant, not waterproof: age, impact damage, moving water and the type of exposure can all affect the risk.
Can you shower with a Samsung Gear S3?
Yes. Samsung Singapore’s support guidance says the Gear S3’s IP68 classification can withstand specific conditions, including wearing it in a shower, in rain or while washing dishes. That guidance does not guarantee that every individual watch will remain watertight, particularly if it has been damaged.

Samsung lists an immersion limit of 1.5 m for no more than 30 minutes and warns against moving water, such as a rapid or strong current. These are limits for the stated resistance conditions—not recommended shower settings or permission to swim at that depth. See Samsung Singapore’s Gear S3 water- and dust-resistance guidance, last updated October 8, 2020.

Can you swim with a Samsung Gear S3?
Do not assume the Gear S3 is suitable for swimming just because it has an IP68 rating. Samsung explains that IP ratings do not establish a device’s suitability for aquatic activities such as swimming, and that IP ratings do not take water pressure into account. The rating’s accidental-submersion conditions should not be treated as swim certification. Samsung made this distinction in its September 8, 2017, water-resistance explainer.

What the IP68 test limits do—and do not—tell you
The Gear S3 user manual describes IP68 testing under controlled environmental conditions. It gives a test condition of 5.0 feet for 30 minutes and also specifies test temperature and pressure. That test result describes a controlled resistance test; it is not a recommended swimming depth or guarantee for every real-world exposure. Samsung’s Gear S3 user manual sets out those test conditions.
Water pressure, temperature, liquid type, movement and the condition of a particular watch can differ from controlled test conditions. Samsung also warns that drops or impacts may damage water- and dust-resistance features. An older watch or one that has been knocked should not be assumed to perform like a new, undamaged device.
What to do if your Gear S3 gets wet
- After exposure to salt water or other liquids, rinse the watch with clean water.
- Dry it thoroughly with a soft, clean cloth.
- If the speaker or microphone is wet, sound may be affected until the area is dry.
These are Samsung’s care recommendations in its Gear S3 support guidance.
