Yes. You can send prerecorded video to YouTube Live through an encoder or playout service, but neither YouTube nor the setup guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. A separate issue is the replay: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. That is an archive warning, not a stated limit on how long a live broadcast may run.
How prerecorded video reaches YouTube Live
YouTube Live receives a feed from an encoder. For a prerecorded stream, the encoder or playout tool uses a video file or playlist as its source and sends that video to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe creating or scheduling a live stream, entering the stream URL and key in an encoder, and starting the feed. Its encoder information includes third-party tools described for continuous streams or prerecorded playback. Those listings are examples, not an endorsement or uptime guarantee.
- Create or schedule a YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, open the live control room and create a stream or schedule one. Use the stream’s URL and stream key with the encoder; treat the key like a password and do not share it publicly.
- Choose the prerecorded source. Select a video file or playlist in the encoder or playout tool. If your source is an external device, an encoder workflow may use external video and audio hardware; a capture card is not needed just to play a file stored on the encoder computer.
- Configure and start the encoder feed. Connect it to YouTube using the stream URL and key, then start sending the feed. Check the live preview and status in YouTube Studio before relying on the public watch page.
- Keep the chain running. Continuous delivery depends on the source media, encoder or playout service, network, account, and service conditions. A failure in any of them can interrupt the live feed; the cited YouTube guidance does not promise continuous availability or define a guaranteed duration for an individual creator’s stream.
Does YouTube stop a live stream at 12 hours?
The 12-hour guidance is about archiving, not a categorical broadcast cap. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, and warns that “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all” in its archive guidance. The word “may” matters: this is not a statement that every longer stream is lost, nor that YouTube requires a stream to stop at 12 hours.
If you need a replay, plan shorter segments and keep a local recording. YouTube recommends a local archive as a backup. Segmenting can make replays easier to manage and reduce exposure to the longer-stream archive uncertainty, but it requires restart or scheduling management and does not guarantee that every segment will be preserved.

Rights, originality, and monetization still apply
Confirm you have rights to everything in the feed
YouTube’s livestream terms require content providers to have the necessary rights for live content on Google services, including music rights where applicable. Community Guidelines and applicable laws also apply. Owning the encoder or having permission to use a streaming setup does not by itself give you rights to the video or soundtrack.
Permission does not guarantee monetization eligibility
YouTube’s channel monetization policies assess reused content separately from copyright enforcement. Material repurposed from YouTube or elsewhere without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value can be ineligible; repetitive or mass-produced content can also be a problem. Permission to use material does not settle that policy review.

Ads and revenue are not assured
YouTube describes pre-roll, display, and mid-roll ads for eligible live streams, but its live-stream monetization guidance says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads. A continuous broadcast is therefore not a promise of continuous ad delivery or income.
One long stream or shorter segments?
