For an adult Kindle profile, Amazon’s official help pages reviewed here do not confirm a setting that locks the device to one book until you finish it. The closest documented option is Learn First in Amazon Kids: it makes shared content appear on a child’s profile only after the daily reading goal is complete. Amazon does not describe it as a lock on other books already available in that profile.
What Learn First actually does
Amazon describes Learn First as a daily-goal gate for content shared with a child’s profile: “When you activate the Learn First feature, shared content appears on the Kids Profile only after the daily goal is complete.” Amazon’s child-profile instructions do not say that it hides every other book already on the profile or requires finishing the book currently open.

That distinction matters if your goal is to stop Kindle from opening other books. Learn First controls when shared content becomes visible after a daily reading goal; it is not documented as a finish-this-title-first control.

- On a compatible Kindle e-reader, open Menu → Parental Controls → Amazon Kids. Menu labels may differ by device and software version.
- Follow the prompts to add the child’s profile details and review its reading settings.
- Enable Learn First and set the daily goal. Shared content appears on the Kids Profile only after that goal is complete.
Amazon Kids features vary by device and are available only in select marketplaces. Amazon’s Kindle e-reader help specifically says Kindle Scribe does not support child profiles. Check the help for your model and marketplace before relying on this setup: Amazon Kindle e-reader help.

Why parental controls are not a single-book lock
Amazon’s parental controls can restrict selected areas, including the browser, Kindle and Audible stores, Cloud content, and Goodreads on Kindle. Amazon does not describe these restrictions as a way to force a reader to finish the open book before opening another. A PIN may limit access to those areas, but it is not documented as a reading-order control. See Amazon’s Kindle e-reader help for the available controls.
What adult Kindle readers can verify
The official help pages cited here cover child profiles, shared content, and selected parental-control restrictions; they do not establish whether a particular adult Kindle model or software version has a separate setting that blocks other books until the current one is finished. Before relying on a device-specific option, check its model, software version, and marketplace support in the on-device settings and current Amazon help. Do not assume that Learn First will impose this restriction on an adult profile.
