Yes—if you already owned the original Total War: SHOGUN 2 on Steam, you can still access and play it. SEGA had scheduled the standalone Steam listing for delisting on 28 September 2026, then announced on 15 October that it was working with platform holders to remove the Complete Edition and reinstate the original while it investigated problems. Existing owners keep their license. Missing legacy DLC is being granted to existing Steam owners at no extra cost, except the Blood Pack because of age-rating restrictions. The reinstatement has no published completion date, and the Blood Pack policy after reinstatement is still unknown.
What your Shogun 2 license means right now
The delisting changes whether new customers can buy a particular store listing; it does not revoke a game already attached to your account. SEGA’s FAQ said existing Steam owners would continue to play the original game and receive legacy DLC they did not already own. On 15 October 2026, Creative Assembly and SEGA repeated that “Existing owners will still be able to access and play the game.”

That announcement also said the Complete Edition had “fallen short of both your expectations and our own standards.” The companies are working with platform holders to remove it from sale and reinstate the original while they investigate. Because no deadline was supplied, storefront displays can change at different times. A missing purchase button is not, by itself, evidence that an existing license has been removed.

28 September 2026: planned standalone delisting
SEGA’s FAQ announced that Total War: SHOGUN 2 would stop being purchasable as a standalone Steam title at 16:00 UTC on 28 September 2026. The store page was expected to remain visible, while the game and its downloadable content would be offered through the new Complete Edition. Owners were told they would keep access and receive missing legacy DLC free, with the Blood Pack excluded for age-rating reasons.

Complete Edition launch
The Complete Edition launched on Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG as an updated and enhanced package containing SHOGUN 2 and its DLC. SEGA described a 75% limited-time launch discount for existing Steam owners. That was a launch offer, not a promise of a permanent price or a discount that must still be available.
15 October 2026: removal and original-game reinstatement announced
After launch problems, Creative Assembly and SEGA said they were working with platform holders to remove Complete Edition from sale and reinstate the original game while they investigated. The statement does not say when listings will change, whether Complete Edition will return after fixes, or whether every storefront will switch simultaneously. It also does not announce a new Blood Pack entitlement.

What happens to your DLC?
The entitlement depends on what you owned and where you buy. The central rule is for people who already owned the original Steam game: legacy DLC missing from their account is supplied at no additional cost, except the Blood Pack.

| Situation | What is included | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| You owned the original SHOGUN 2 on Steam | Original game access plus legacy DLC you did not already own | No charge for the missing legacy DLC; Blood Pack is excluded because of age-rating restrictions. |
| You already owned individual DLC | Your existing DLC license remains associated with your account | The free entitlement concerns missing legacy items; it does not create a new Blood Pack entitlement. |
| You buy Complete Edition on Steam | The original SHOGUN 2 and associated DLC | Blood Pack is excluded from the stated Steam package. |
| You buy on Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store or GOG | Complete Edition only, according to SEGA’s FAQ | These storefronts do not provide the same original-game package described for Steam. |
The Blood Pack exception
The Blood Pack is the one explicit exclusion from the free legacy-DLC entitlement and from the stated Steam Complete Edition contents. SEGA and Creative Assembly tied that exclusion to age-rating restrictions. The 15 October reinstatement announcement does not say that the Blood Pack will be restored, transferred, or newly granted, so do not assume it will appear later.

If a DLC item does not appear immediately
- Sign in to the same Steam account that owns SHOGUN 2; the entitlement is account-based.
- Open the game’s entry in your library and inspect its downloadable-content list rather than relying on the public store purchase button.
- Restart the Steam client after an entitlement change and check the game’s installed-content settings.
- If a listed legacy item remains unavailable, contact the storefront or publisher support team with your account and purchase details. Do not buy a second copy solely because the public listing changed.
Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store and GOG are not identical packages
The storefront distinction matters if you are deciding whether to buy during the transition. SEGA’s FAQ specifically says a Steam purchase of Complete Edition includes the original SHOGUN 2 and associated DLC (excluding Blood Pack), while purchases on Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG include Complete Edition only.
| Storefront | Package described by SEGA | What that means for an owner |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | Complete Edition purchase includes the original game and associated DLC, excluding Blood Pack | Existing Steam owners retain the original license and receive missing eligible legacy DLC at no charge. |
| Epic Games Store | Complete Edition only | Do not assume a separate original-game license is included beyond the Complete Edition package. |
| Microsoft Store | Complete Edition only | Package contents differ from the Steam entitlement described in the FAQ. |
| GOG | Complete Edition only | The FAQ does not describe the same original-game ownership conversion as Steam. |
Because the reinstatement was announced as work in progress, a listing may show the old title, Complete Edition, or neither while a platform updates its catalog. Treat the account’s library and entitlement information as more relevant to an existing owner than a temporary store-page label.

What the Complete Edition changes
Complete Edition is not merely a renamed store page. SEGA lists these technical and content changes:
Recommended Free Tools
- Updated lighting, shadows and textures.
- User-interface scaling for 1440p and 4K displays.
- Modernised controls.
- Japanese and Chinese voice acting, plus full text localisation for those languages.
- More than 50 newly playable minor factions.
- Integrated Mod.io support.
- A 64-bit upgrade.
Those improvements describe the Complete Edition build; they do not change the original game that existing Steam owners were promised they could continue playing. The 15 October statement leaves open whether, when and in what form the enhanced build will return after investigation.
Best Value
- The American, British and French nations played an important part in the story of the Boshin war and your relations with these foreign powers will be integral to unit recruitment and to advancing your technology trees.
- Thirty nine new land units, including modern ranged units - such as the Gatling gun and Armstrong gun - controllable in a new third-person mode.
- New port siege battle type, this new battle type triggers when attempting a naval assault on an occupied enemy port. The attacking fleet must sail into the harbour and capture the port, running the gauntlet of coastal gun defences.
- New land and sea unit interactions, during a land battle, armies can call in offshore artillery support barrages.
- Campaign map bombardments: offshore naval units can bombard armies and cities in adjacent coastal areas on the campaign map itself.
Can you use old Shogun 2 mods in Complete Edition?
No. SEGA states that the builds are not mod-compatible. Complete Edition launches with integrated Mod.io support, so mods made for the original Total War: SHOGUN 2 do not work in Complete Edition. The original-game mods remain unchanged and belong to the original build’s ecosystem.
Choose the build that matches your mod setup
- Keep using the original game if an existing campaign depends on its current mod list.
- Do not copy an original-game mod into Complete Edition expecting it to load; the separate builds use incompatible mod arrangements.
- If you move to Complete Edition, look for a version of the mod explicitly released for that build through its integrated Mod.io support.
- Back up saves before changing builds or removing a mod. A save that depends on a particular mod set may not load correctly after that set changes.
What existing owners should do
If SHOGUN 2 is already in your Steam library
- Leave the game attached to the account that owns it; delisting does not require a repurchase.
- Install or launch it from your library, even if the public store page no longer offers a purchase button.
- Check the downloadable-content list for the legacy items you were promised. The Blood Pack is the stated exception.
- Keep a copy of your saves and note your current mod list before trying any Complete Edition installation.
If you do not own the original
Do not assume that a listing shown on one platform grants the same package on another. Steam’s stated package and the Complete Edition-only packages on Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG have different contents. Availability can also change while the 15 October removal and reinstatement process is underway. Check the exact package description at the time of purchase.
If you bought Complete Edition and cannot find it
The 15 October announcement says the companies are working to remove it from sale, not that existing purchasers lose access. Sign in to the purchasing account and look in that platform’s library. If the title is absent there, preserve your receipt or order number and ask the platform’s support team to restore the entitlement; do not infer a permanent cancellation from a temporary catalog change.
What is still unknown
- There is no announced date for completing the removal of Complete Edition or reinstating the original on every platform.
- SEGA and Creative Assembly have not said whether Complete Edition will return after the investigation and, if so, in what form.
- No new policy has been published for the Blood Pack after reinstatement.
- The official statements do not promise identical timing or package presentation across Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG.
Those gaps mean you should distinguish a confirmed entitlement from a future storefront plan. Confirmed today: existing owners can access and play their game, eligible missing legacy DLC is granted to existing Steam owners except Blood Pack, and original mods remain separate from Complete Edition mods.
