When do NBA 2K25’s servers shut down?
2K’s notice, updated October 2, 2026, says NBA 2K25 is scheduled to be discontinued on December 31, 2026. Its online modes and features are scheduled to become unavailable beginning January 1, 2027. These are announced future dates, not confirmation that the shutdown has already happened. 2K’s NBA 2K25 sunset notice and its online-services status table give the retirement date.

Which NBA 2K25 modes remain playable offline?
2K names these modes as continuing offline after the sunset:

The broader 2K status table also lists MyLeague/MyGM and 2KU/Learn 2K among modes that remain available. Availability of a mode does not mean every feature within it will work: 2K warns that features requiring its servers will be unavailable, but does not list every affected sub-feature.
What stops working after the shutdown?
2K says MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available, and players will no longer be able to earn Virtual Currency (VC). Multiplayer games, Online Leagues, community sharing, and other features that require a connection to 2K servers will also be unavailable.

That distinction matters if you are deciding whether to buy or keep playing: owning the game does not preserve server-dependent modes. Take-Two’s launch announcement described an internet connection and online account as requirements for online features and bonus content, including MyCAREER, MyTEAM, The W Online, and Play Now Online. The later sunset notice governs what is scheduled to remain after retirement. Take-Two’s NBA 2K25 launch announcement also identifies some features as New Gen-only, but platform-specific post-shutdown exceptions are not specified in the sunset notice.
Can you redownload the game after it is delisted?
According to 2K, existing owners will still be able to redownload NBA 2K25 and play offline modes. The notice does not specify platform, region, or storefront exceptions, nor does it state how long redownload access is guaranteed. So the statement supports redownloading for existing owners, but not an indefinite guarantee for every platform or account.

If you are considering buying a copy before the scheduled October 30, 2026 purchase cutoff, check that it matches your platform and focus on the offline modes you want. Buying the game will not keep MyCAREER, MyTEAM, online play, or VC earning available after the shutdown.
