If a Steam game is removed from sale while you still own it, you can usually keep downloading, installing, and playing it. Valve’s Steamworks documentation says existing players will continue to be able to “download, install, and launch the game” after removal: Removing a product from Steam. Delisting removes the purchase option; it does not, by itself, mean existing owners lose their entitlement.
What delisting does—and what it does not mean
A delisted game is no longer offered for purchase on Steam. That is different from a game disappearing from your Library because you are signed into the wrong account, have a Library filter enabled, or hid it. It is also different from a purchase or gift being revoked.

Publishers have confirmed continued access in specific cases. Bethesda said owners of certain delisted id Software games would still have them in their Steam libraries to download and play: Bethesda’s announcement. A Steam-hosted announcement about the original Sonic Generations likewise said existing owners could continue to download and play it: Sonic Generations announcement and FAQ. Those examples support the general rule, but they are not guarantees about every game’s online services or future compatibility.
If the game is missing from your Steam Library
Work through these checks before assuming delisting removed your access:

- Confirm the account. Sign in to the Steam account that bought or activated the game. Steam Support notes that games may appear missing when you are using a different account.
- Check Library filters and hidden games. Clear filters in your Library and look in the hidden-games list. Steam’s instructions are in Games Are Missing from my Library.
- Check the purchase or activation record. If you expected to own the game but cannot find it, review your account’s purchase history and consider whether it was activated on another account.
If Steam shows the game as uninstalled
The files may still be on your computer even if Steam does not recognize them. Check the relevant Steam library folder for the game’s files. If they are present, start the installation from Steam and choose the library location containing those files; Steam may discover and verify them rather than downloading everything again. Follow Steam Support’s guidance for installed games appearing as uninstalled.
File recognition is separate from ownership: having game files on disk does not prove that the account has a valid Steam entitlement.

If Steam asks you to buy a game you already paid for
Check the purchase history and payment status. Steam says a card transaction that is declined can result in the game being removed from the Library list. That is a payment issue, not an effect of delisting. See Steam Is Asking Me To Purchase a Game I Already Paid For.

If you own it but cannot launch it
Ownership does not guarantee that a game will run on every computer indefinitely. Check the game’s supported operating systems and system requirements; Steam Support’s platform availability guidance explains how to check whether a game is available for your current platform.
Delisting also does not establish whether a publisher’s servers or online features will remain available. A non-Steam shortcut cannot solve an entitlement problem: Steam says adding a shortcut does not provide Steam downloads or prove ownership. See Add Non-Steam Games to a Library. For title-specific DRM, operating-system support, or service status, consult the publisher’s notice for that game.
