If you completed a digital purchase with your PlayStation account, removing the game from the PlayStation Store normally prevents new purchases but does not erase the entitlement from your library. On PS4 and PS5, sign in to the purchasing account and check Game Library. On PS3 and PS Vita, Sony says previously purchased content will remain downloadable for the foreseeable future as the legacy Stores close in stages.
That access is conditional rather than permanent ownership. The result depends on which account bought the game, whether the license came from PlayStation Plus, your console and region, and whether the title still relies on online servers.

What “delisted” means
A delisted game has been removed from sale in a particular Store, region, or platform. The listing may disappear because of an expired license, a publisher decision, a technical issue, or a planned service change. Delisting is primarily a change to new sales; it is not, by itself, proof that Sony has revoked every earlier purchase.
Delisting is different from deleting your license
A completed transaction creates an entitlement tied to the PlayStation Network account that paid for it. That entitlement can continue to appear in Game Library even when a Store search returns no result. If you never completed the purchase, a game that was merely wish-listed, downloaded as a demo, or claimed through a temporary promotion may not be available for redownload.

A digital purchase is a license
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s March 2026 US Terms of Service describe a Store transaction as a personal, non-transferable license for private, non-commercial use, not ownership of the product. The terms also warn that closing or deleting the purchasing account can result in loss of access. In practical terms, “I bought it” means your account has permission to use the software under the applicable license; it is not a guarantee that every future platform, feature, or download endpoint will exist indefinitely.
First identify what kind of access you had
The fastest way to avoid a mistaken conclusion is to determine whether the game was purchased outright or supplied by a subscription.

Check your account’s transaction history before treating a missing icon as a lost purchase. The account that completed the payment is the account Sony uses to verify the entitlement.

How platform and region change the answer

The 2026 PS3 and PS Vita Store timetable
Sony announced on July 1, 2026 that PS3 Store closure would begin in select markets during 2026. Its notice says PS3 and PS Vita closures in other countries are scheduled for July 2027. As of October 13, 2026, this is a staged timetable, not a statement that every legacy Store worldwide has already closed. The same notice says players will still be able to download previously purchased content after the closing date “for the foreseeable future.” That wording is an assurance of continued access for now, not a promise that every title will remain downloadable forever.
Compatibility still matters
An entitlement does not automatically create a version for every generation. A PS3 purchase may not include a PS4 or PS5 release, and a PS4 license may not provide a native PS5 version unless Sony or the publisher supports that upgrade or backward compatibility. Check the platform version shown in your library and the title’s compatibility information for your region.
Online shutdowns can change what “play” means
Delisting and server shutdown are separate events. A game can remain downloadable while losing multiplayer, rankings, cloud functions, events, or authentication services. The effect depends on how much of the game is local and whether an online connection is mandatory.

For a named game, check the publisher’s current service notice and identify the exact platform version. “The game is still in my library” answers the download question; it does not prove that matchmaking, servers, or mandatory sign-in still operate.

How to redownload a delisted game on PS5 or PS4
- Sign in to the purchasing account. Use the PlayStation Network account that appears in the transaction history. A different family member’s account may see the console but not own the entitlement.
- Open Game Library. On PS5 or PS4, look through the purchased games rather than searching the Store. If the item is absent, check the hidden-games area before assuming the license disappeared.
- Confirm the transaction. Review account history for the completed purchase, correct region, and correct edition. A canceled order or a PlayStation Plus catalog entry is not the same as a separate purchase.
- Restore licenses if the game is locked. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. On PS4, go to Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses. This refreshes the console’s license data; it does not recreate a transaction that never existed.
- Check sharing settings. On PS5, verify Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on the console used by other local accounts. On PS4, verify that the purchaser’s account has activated the console as its primary PS4.
- Retry the download. Confirm free storage, a stable internet connection, and current system software. If PlayStation services are experiencing an outage, wait for service to recover before repeatedly deleting and reinstalling the game.
- Escalate with evidence. If the title remains missing or locked, record the error code, transaction date, account region, and platform, then contact PlayStation Support. Do not give your account password to anyone claiming to restore the purchase.
Redownloading on PS3 and PS Vita
Legacy hardware follows a different Store environment. Sony’s announcement says previously purchased PS3 and PS Vita content remains downloadable for the foreseeable future after the relevant Store closure. That statement covers earlier purchases, not new buying after closure.
On PS Vita, Sony’s support guidance directs you to Options > Download List to find items that can be downloaded again. The guide notes that internet access, device activation limits, and exceptions for certain content apply, so the process is not unconditional for every file ever associated with an account.

For PS3, use the account’s previously purchased content and download facilities available on the console. If an item is not listed, verify the purchasing account and region first, then check Sony’s current support information for that market’s closure status. Avoid assuming that a Store search failure means the entitlement was removed; legacy Store availability and the purchase library are different things.

You are signed in to the wrong account
Only the account that completed the transaction owns the paid license. Sign out and return to the purchaser’s account, then check transaction history and Game Library.
The game came from PlayStation Plus
A catalog or monthly game can be locked when the subscription expires or when the title leaves the catalog. Reinstating the subscription may restore the benefit, but it does not turn that benefit into a separate permanent purchase.
Sharing authorization changed
Another user on the same console depends on the purchaser’s PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play setting or primary PS4 activation. If that setting moved to another console, the local user can lose access while the purchaser’s account still works.
The license data is out of sync
Run the platform-specific Restore Licenses command listed above, restart the console, and try again. This is appropriate when the transaction is visible but the installed software is locked.
The platform or region does not match
Verify that you are attempting to use the same platform edition and account region associated with the purchase. A delisted PS4 edition may not unlock a different regional release or a separate PS5 product.

If the game requires publisher authentication or a live server, a valid license may no longer be enough to launch it. Consult the title’s service-closure notice before repeatedly reinstalling.
What can end access even after a successful purchase?
- Account closure or deletion: Sony’s March 2026 US terms warn that closing the purchasing account may result in loss of access.
- License or policy restrictions: A license is personal and generally non-transferable, subject to applicable local law.
- Hardware failure or storage loss: Redownload is normally the recovery route, so keep the purchasing account credentials and recovery details current.
- Platform retirement: Legacy Store support can change by market, as shown by the staged PS3 and PS Vita timetable.
- Mandatory online services ending: A game may remain listed yet be unusable when its required service shuts down.
These conditions are why “you own it forever” is too broad. The practical expectation is continued access under the account, platform, regional, and service conditions that still apply.
A seven-point check for any specific delisted title
- Identify whether you made a completed purchase or used a PlayStation Plus entitlement.
- Sign in to the exact purchasing account and confirm the transaction in account history.
- Record the platform version: PS3, PS Vita, PS4, or PS5.
- Check Game Library or, on PS Vita, Options > Download List.
- Confirm the title is not hidden and restore licenses if it is locked.
- For shared access, verify PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play or primary PS4 activation.
- Look for the publisher’s current server notice and distinguish playable offline modes from features that require a live service.
Bottom line
A delisted PlayStation game you bought digitally will usually remain playable and redownloadable from the purchasing account, especially on PS4 and PS5. That expectation does not apply automatically to PlayStation Plus games, shared licenses, incompatible versions, closed accounts, or online-only titles. On PS3 and PS Vita, Sony’s current policy promises redownloads for the foreseeable future while closures proceed by market, so check the exact platform, region, account, and service status before making a firm claim about any one game.
