Yes. Google still lists a production firmware build for the Google TV Streamer (4K), and its published policy provides a minimum period for critical security updates. Those facts do not promise a particular Android-version upgrade, a steady stream of new features, or that every support issue will be handled for the entire policy period. Owners can check for updates on the television itself and use Google’s Streamer support center for troubleshooting, warranty and contact options.

What “still supported” means for the Google TV Streamer

There are two separate questions behind the wording. First, is Google publishing firmware for the product now? Second, how long does Google say critical security fixes will remain available? The answers are yes and a defined minimum period, respectively.

Google’s firmware and release-notes page was updated on 23 June 2026 and lists a production build for Google TV Streamer (4K). Google’s security-update table separately identifies the Streamer and its Voice Remote as products currently receiving critical security updates. Treat the firmware listing as a snapshot of what Google had published on that page as of its update date, not as proof that no newer staged download may have reached some devices afterward.

“Your device usually downloads updates automatically,” Google says in its Chromecast and Google TV Streamer firmware versions and release notes help documentation. In practice, an owner may see an update arrive without opening a menu, while another owner may need to wait for a staged rollout or check manually.

The latest published firmware information

Production build listed by Google

The production build shown for Google TV Streamer (4K) is UTTK.260317.003. Google’s notes associate that build with:

  • Google Home speaker audio output support.
  • Thread credential sharing.
  • Security patch updates through April 2026.
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements.

Google says firmware releases roll out in stages. Its article is updated with a production version once that release is available for all devices, so the page’s date and the rollout model both matter when you compare what you see on your own Streamer with what is listed online. A device that does not display the build immediately is not automatically evidence that support has ended.

How to interpret the security-patch note

“Security patch updates through April 2026” describes the patch level associated with the listed production build. It is not the same statement as the longer policy period in Google’s security table. One is a firmware-release detail; the other is a minimum commitment for qualifying critical security fixes that can be delivered remotely.

Google’s minimum security-update period

Google’s security table lists a US Google Store release date of 24 September 2024 for the Google TV Streamer (4K) and Voice Remote. It gives a minimum security-update end date of 24 September 2029, making the stated minimum period five years from that listed release date.

Release-date basis 24 September 2024 US Google Store release date
Minimum security period Five years
Listed end date 24 September 2029
Current status in the table Currently receiving critical security updates

Google defines these updates as fixes for critical issues known to Google that can be resolved with a remote software update. The wording is deliberately narrower than a promise of every software improvement. It does not guarantee feature releases, a major Android or Google TV version change, support for every application, or a particular repair outcome in every country.

Why “minimum” matters

A minimum period is a floor in the published policy, not a scheduled retirement date. Google could continue issuing updates after that point, but the table does not promise that it will. Conversely, the policy period does not mean every device receives every release on the same day; staged delivery and device conditions can affect timing.

How to check for a Google TV Streamer software update

Most updates download automatically. If you want to check the device directly, use the TV interface rather than looking for an update control in the Google Home app.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Turn on the television connected to the Streamer.
  2. Open All settings.
  3. Select System.
  4. Open About.
  5. Select System update.
  6. Read the available version information and follow the on-screen instructions if an update is offered.

Google says the Google Home app does not show the update itself for Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer. The TV’s System update screen is therefore the authoritative place on the device to see whether a download is available or already installed.

What happens while an update installs

Google’s typical estimate is 10–12 minutes. During installation, the streaming device cannot be used to cast, and its LED pulses while it receives the update. Keep the Streamer connected to power and avoid treating a temporary loss of screen activity as a reason to unplug it immediately.

If the update appears stuck

If the process takes substantially longer than Google’s typical estimate, check the network connection and power first. Google advises unplugging the device for one minute, then reconnecting it to restart the update process. If the problem continues, Google’s guidance is to factory-reset the Streamer and set it up again. A reset removes local configuration, so use it only after the simpler power and connection checks and be prepared to sign in and configure the device again.

Updates during initial setup

The Streamer may require an update while it is being set up. That is normal for a device that needs current system software before setup can finish. If setup pauses, leave the device powered and connected to the network, then follow the on-screen process. The Google Home app can help with setup, but Google directs owners to the television interface for update status.

When a release is staged, the absence of an offer on one device does not establish that the product has stopped receiving updates. Check the build information under All settings > System > About > System update and compare it with Google’s dated firmware page, taking the page’s publication date into account.

Where to get Google TV Streamer support

Device-specific help

Google’s Google TV Streamer support center is the starting point for setup instructions, troubleshooting, warranty information and a Contact us path. Use it for an account-specific or device-specific problem because the available options can depend on the product, location and issue. Google does not promise a particular response time, and repair or replacement availability can vary by country.

Hardware versus software responsibility

Google’s broader Google TV guidance says the device manufacturer can help with hardware issues and software updates. For a Streamer bought through an authorised channel, begin with Google’s Streamer help resources and follow the contact route shown for your region. Keep proof of purchase and the device’s identifying information available if a warranty or account investigation is required.

When the problem is performance, not downloading

Google’s troubleshooting sequence is practical when the device is slow, apps misbehave or playback is unreliable:

This separates an operating-system update problem from an application or hardware problem. Installing a new system build will not necessarily correct an app that itself is outdated.

What the security commitment does—and does not—cover

The five-year minimum applies to critical security updates that Google can resolve remotely. It is useful protection against the product becoming immediately abandoned, but it is not a service-level agreement for every fault. The published material does not establish a guaranteed cadence, a fixed delivery hour, a promised feature roadmap, or a commitment to major operating-system upgrades.

It also does not guarantee that an older television, home network, third-party app or streaming service will continue to support every feature for the same length of time. Those components have their own requirements and policies. Keep the Streamer’s system and apps current, but diagnose failures at the level where they occur instead of assuming every problem is a Google TV firmware issue.

Should you keep the Streamer or replace it?

An available update is not, by itself, a reason to replace a working device. Decide based on the problem you are trying to solve:

Your situation Practical response
The Streamer works and you want current security coverage Keep it, install offered updates and check the system-update screen when needed.
You want a feature that is not in the current release Check Google’s release notes; the security policy does not promise that feature will arrive.
An update is not offered yet Allow for staged rollout, verify network and power, and check the TV interface rather than the Google Home app.
The update repeatedly fails Follow Google’s restart and one-minute power-disconnect guidance, then consider a factory reset and contact support.
The device has a hardware fault Use the Streamer support center’s warranty and Contact us paths; software support cannot repair damaged hardware.
You need newer capabilities than the current product provides Compare the cost of replacement with the specific feature and security requirements; replacement is a choice, not a consequence of the listed update policy.

For most owners, the decisive facts are that Google still publishes production firmware and that critical security coverage has a stated minimum window. Whether those facts meet your needs depends on the features you require and the condition of your particular unit.

A simple maintenance checklist

  • Leave the Streamer connected to reliable power and Wi-Fi so automatic downloads can complete.
  • Check All settings > System > About > System update when you need to verify status.
  • Allow the full 10–12-minute typical installation period before troubleshooting.
  • Do not interrupt an in-progress update casually; the pulsing LED indicates that the device is receiving it.
  • Keep Play Store apps updated separately from system software.
  • Use Google’s Streamer support center for warranty, account and device-specific help.
