Yes. If your Steam account already owns the original Total War: SHOGUN 2, you can still install and play it from your Library. SEGA removed the original game from sale to new customers on 28 September 2026, but that delisting did not revoke existing licenses. SEGA’s 12 October 2026 support FAQ says existing owners remain able to play and will receive legacy DLC they do not already own at no additional cost.
The important distinction is between an existing license and a new purchase. Steam’s Complete Edition purchase includes the enhanced release and the original SHOGUN 2 with its associated DLC, subject to the Blood Pack age-rating exclusion. Owners of the old game do not automatically receive the enhanced Complete Edition; SEGA announced a loyalty discount, but its advertised period should be treated as unavailable unless Steam currently displays an eligible offer.

What happened to the original Steam listing?
SEGA ended standalone purchases of the original Total War: SHOGUN 2 on 28 September 2026 at 17:00 BST (16:00 UTC). This was a sales change, not a shutdown. The Steam store page can remain visible for information while the purchase option for the old standalone product is removed.

A delisting normally prevents new customers from acquiring a product through that listing. It does not erase a license already attached to an account. That is why a person who bought SHOGUN 2 years ago can still download it, even though someone searching for the old standalone game today may be directed toward Complete Edition instead.

- Improved land and naval battle gameplay, now with the ability to combine forces and attacks
The original game launched on Steam on 15 March 2011. Its age does not change the entitlement: once the license is in your Steam account, the relevant test is account ownership, not whether the store still sells the product.
Which Steam entitlement do you have?
“I bought Shogun 2” can describe several different situations. Use this table to identify what should appear in your account.
| What you purchased | What the Steam entitlement provides | What you should do now |
|---|---|---|
| Original SHOGUN 2 before 28 September 2026 | Access to the original game; SEGA says missing legacy DLC will be granted to current Steam owners free of charge. | Install the original SHOGUN 2 from Library. You do not need to buy it again. |
| Complete Edition on Steam | Both the enhanced Complete Edition and the original SHOGUN 2, with associated DLC; the Steam bundle excludes the Blood Pack because of age ratings. | Install the edition you want from the products attached to your account. |
| Complete Edition from Epic, Microsoft Store or GOG | Complete Edition only, according to SEGA’s storefront description. | Use that storefront’s launcher and entitlement. Steam ownership of the old game is not created by a purchase elsewhere. |
| No previous purchase | The old standalone Steam product is no longer available as a new purchase. | Look for Complete Edition on the storefront you intend to use. |
The free-DLC statement applies to current Steam owners of the original game. It is not a general promise to owners on every PC storefront.

Delisting does not require a special download code or an archived installer. The normal Steam Library workflow is the correct method.
- Open Steam and sign in. Use the account that originally purchased or activated SHOGUN 2.
- Open Library. This is where owned products are listed; the public store search is not the authority for your license.
- Search for “Total War: SHOGUN 2.” Search for the original app by name rather than relying only on the Complete Edition store page.
- Open the original game’s Library page. Confirm that the page offers Install or Play rather than a purchase prompt.
- Choose Install. Select a Steam library folder with enough free space, then let Steam download the files.
- Launch from Library. If both editions are attached to your account, choose the original entry when you want the unchanged game and its original mod ecosystem.
The date on which you bought the game does not matter once the license is present. A purchase from 2011 and a purchase made shortly before the delisting are treated as existing ownership for this purpose.

If the Install button or game is missing
SEGA’s FAQ confirms the entitlement but does not publish account-specific recovery steps. Work through the checks below before assuming the license was lost.
Check the signed-in account
Steam licenses are account-bound. Sign out and back in if necessary, then verify the account’s purchase history and Library. Family members may have used a different account, and a computer can retain credentials for an account that is not the purchaser’s.
Search the Library, not just the store
Use the Library search box for the exact title. A delisted product may not appear as a normal new-purchase result, while an owned product should remain available in Library. Clear filters that hide uninstalled games, older titles or games not currently installed.
Check whether you are looking at Complete Edition only
Complete Edition is a separate release with its own features and mod system. If you bought only the original game, seeing Complete Edition in a store search does not mean the original license disappeared. Return to Library and search for the original SHOGUN 2 app.
Refresh Steam’s local state
Fully exit Steam, restart it and sign in again. If the Library still does not show the title, test the account on another computer or the Steam client’s web view. These steps distinguish a local client display problem from an account-entitlement problem without changing the license.

- Developed according to Sun Tzu's principles in the Art of War, the Artificial Intelligence constantly analyzes its situation and reacts to your every move with greater precision and variety.

Contact Steam Support
If the purchasing account is correct and the original title is still absent, contact Steam Support with the account details and purchase evidence. The publisher FAQ does not document a separate SEGA recovery process for missing Steam licenses, so Steam is the appropriate first support channel for an account-level entitlement issue.

SEGA describes Complete Edition as an updated and enhanced release rather than a simple re-listing. The announced changes include modernised visuals, modernised controls, Japanese and Chinese voice acting, full text localisation in those languages, more than 50 newly playable minor factions, integrated Mod.io support and a 64-bit upgrade.
| Edition | Visuals and technology | Content and language features | Mod system |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original SHOGUN 2 | Original release presentation and technology. | Original faction and campaign content; language options associated with the original release. | Original SHOGUN 2 mod ecosystem. |
| Complete Edition | Updated visuals, modernised controls and a 64-bit upgrade. | Japanese and Chinese voice acting, full text localisation in those languages, and more than 50 newly playable minor factions. | Integrated Mod.io support. |
These editions are not interchangeable installations from a modding perspective. Choosing Complete Edition for its technical upgrades also means moving to its Mod.io-based ecosystem.
DLC: what existing Steam owners receive
SEGA’s support statement is unusually direct: “For existing owners, nothing will change. The game will remain playable, and all current Steam owners of Total War: SHOGUN 2 will be granted any DLC they do not already own, for free.” That promise concerns current Steam owners of the original game and missing legacy DLC.
After Steam processes the entitlement, DLC may appear as additional items associated with SHOGUN 2 rather than as a new charge. If you already owned a particular pack, you should not expect a second purchase or a duplicate license; the stated benefit is coverage for eligible legacy DLC you were missing.

The Blood Pack qualification
When Complete Edition is purchased on Steam, the bundle includes the original game and associated DLC but excludes the Blood Pack because of age-rating requirements. Keep that qualification attached to the Complete Edition bundle: “all DLC” should not be read as a guarantee that the Blood Pack is included in that package.
SEGA’s existing-owner statement and the Complete Edition bundle description address different transactions. If your account does not show an item you believe should be granted, check the DLC list attached to the original Steam product and then ask Steam Support to review the entitlement.
Original mods versus Complete Edition mods
SEGA says original SHOGUN 2 mods remain unchanged. It also says those original mods are not compatible with Complete Edition, which uses integrated Mod.io support.
In practical terms, select the edition based partly on the mod library you intend to use:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Stay with original SHOGUN 2 if your campaigns depend on existing original-version mods or a familiar mod workflow.
- Use Complete Edition if you want its updated visuals, controls, 64-bit upgrade, added minor factions and Mod.io integration, and you are prepared to use mods made for that edition.
- Do not assume a mod will transfer. A mod that works in the original release is not automatically usable in Complete Edition, even when both products are owned by the same Steam account.
Keep separate expectations for each installation. The publisher’s compatibility statement is about the mod systems, not a guarantee that every campaign, configuration or third-party tool behaves identically between editions.
Best Value
- The American, British and French nations played an important part in the story of the Boshin war and your relations with these foreign powers will be integral to unit recruitment and to advancing your technology trees.
- Thirty nine new land units, including modern ranged units - such as the Gatling gun and Armstrong gun - controllable in a new third-person mode.
- New port siege battle type, this new battle type triggers when attempting a naval assault on an occupied enemy port. The attacking fleet must sail into the harbour and capture the port, running the gauntlet of coastal gun defences.
- New land and sea unit interactions, during a land battle, armies can call in offshore artillery support barrages.
- Campaign map bombardments: offshore naval units can bombard armies and cities in adjacent coastal areas on the campaign map itself.
Does buying Complete Edition give you the old game?
On Steam, yes: SEGA states that a Complete Edition purchase includes both the new Complete Edition and the original SHOGUN 2 with associated DLC, subject to the Blood Pack exclusion. This is why a new Steam buyer can obtain the original game even though its standalone listing is no longer sold.
The same assumption does not apply across storefronts. Purchases of Complete Edition through Epic, Microsoft Store and GOG include Complete Edition only, according to SEGA’s stated storefront terms. If access to the original Steam application or its original mod ecosystem is your priority, the storefront and package name must be checked before purchase.
The loyalty discount and whether it still matters
SEGA announced a 75% loyalty discount for existing owners who upgraded to Complete Edition. The published window began with the Complete Edition launch on 13 October 2026 and was scheduled to end on 12 November 2026 at the listed regional times.
Do not rely on an old announcement as proof that the discount is currently active. Treat it as unavailable unless Steam, while you are signed in to the qualifying account, displays the offer and its final price. A store page can show a standard price even when a loyalty offer is account-specific, so the signed-in checkout view is the decisive check.
The discount is an upgrade opportunity, not a condition for keeping the original game. Declining it does not remove your ability to install or play the original SHOGUN 2.
Quick Recap
Choosing the right edition
Keep using the original game when
- You mainly want the version you already know and have no need for the enhanced feature set.
- Your established mods are built for original SHOGUN 2.
- You want to avoid changing editions while continuing an existing setup.
Consider Complete Edition when
- You want the announced visual, control and 64-bit improvements.
- You want the newly playable minor factions and the added Japanese and Chinese voice and text localisation.
- You are comfortable adopting Mod.io-compatible mods instead of relying on original-release mods.
- You are buying on Steam and want a package that includes both Complete Edition and the original game.
Check the storefront first when
- You are buying outside Steam.
- You specifically need the original game rather than Complete Edition only.
- You are comparing a displayed package price with an account-specific loyalty offer.

Bottom line for common situations

- You are missing legacy DLC: SEGA says current Steam owners receive DLC they do not already own at no additional cost.
- You want to keep using old mods: use the original game, because those mods are not compatible with Complete Edition.
- You bought Complete Edition elsewhere: the stated Epic, Microsoft Store and GOG packages provide Complete Edition only.
- Your owned game is absent from Library: verify the purchasing account, clear Library filters, restart Steam and contact Steam Support if the license still does not appear.
