Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSometimes. A studio closing does not automatically remove a game from your library. The bigger questions are whether the store still lets you download it and whether the game needs online services that have shut down. A title may remain downloadable while losing multiplayer—or, if it requires a constant connection, becoming entirely unplayable.
What a studio closure does—and does not—mean
A studio shutting down, a game being removed from sale, a storefront closing, and a game’s servers going offline are separate events. One does not automatically cause the others. A publisher or platform may continue distributing a game after its developer closes; conversely, a game can be delisted or lose online services while its studio still exists.

Valve says a game retired from Steam remains in existing players’ libraries and can still be downloaded, installed, and launched. That is Steam’s stated policy, not a guarantee about every store or every game’s online features. Steamworks: Retiring a Product
Can you redownload a game after it is delisted?
Often, but the answer depends on the storefront and the purchase. Delisting usually means new customers can no longer buy a title; it does not necessarily erase access for existing customers. Steam says retired games remain available to existing players. GOG says a user’s library remains available if a game is delisted and that offline installers can still be downloaded. These are platform-specific policies, not a universal promise. GOG support: What happens to my games if they get removed from the store?

Store closure is also distinct from delisting. Xbox says previously purchased Xbox 360 games remain playable and re-downloadable after the Xbox 360 Store closure, while multiplayer depends on whether the publisher continues supporting the game’s servers. Xbox Support: Xbox 360 Store closure
For PS3 and PS Vita, PlayStation says players can continue to play owned content subject to online features and service availability, and can re-download previous purchases for the foreseeable future. This concerns those consoles and PlayStation’s stated policy; it does not mean online features will remain available indefinitely. PlayStation: Important notice for PS3 and PS Vita

Will a game still work when its servers shut down?
It depends on what the game relies on. A server shutdown can remove multiplayer, leaderboards, cloud features, or other connected functions while leaving an offline campaign intact. If the game requires a continuing connection to a server to launch or play, shutting that service down can make the whole game unusable. A European Commission document describes this server-dependence problem; the outcome for an individual title depends on its design and service arrangements. European Commission: server-dependence discussion
PlayStation’s shutdown notices show how different the outcomes can be. After Gran Turismo Sport’s online services ended, the offline portions remained playable, including purchased add-ons. GUNS UP!, by contrast, requires an online connection and became unplayable after its service ended. In LittleBigPlanet 3, online services and access to other players’ creations became unavailable, while locally stored user content remained available. PlayStation service notices

That is why “I still have it installed” is not enough to establish that a game will work. The client may need online authentication, or a mode may depend on publisher-operated services. Check the game’s own shutdown notice for the specific features and dates affected.
How to check your own game before access changes
- Identify the platform and account. Find the platform’s current support information for previously purchased content and re-downloads. Policies can differ by store, region, account status, and title.
- Read the game’s official notices. Look for a delisting announcement, server shutdown date, and a list of affected modes or features. Distinguish the end of sales from the end of online services.
- Test offline play. Disconnect from the internet and launch the game before relying on it for offline use. An installed copy may still need online authentication or server-side services.
- Save an official offline installer if one is offered. GOG says offline installers remain available for its games and describes a preservation program that tests selected titles on popular PC configurations. The program is currently Windows-only. An installer can reduce reliance on an active storefront, but it cannot recreate publisher servers or guarantee future compatibility. GOG Preservation Program
- Check each part separately. The base game, add-ons, saved progress, multiplayer, community creations, and cloud services may not share the same fate.
Does a digital purchase mean permanent ownership?
Not necessarily. In a 2025 report based on Australian consumer research, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission described standard-form terms for Steam, Epic Games Store, and PlayStation Network as licences to access and play rather than ownership of a digital copy. The finding concerns specified platform terms and Australian consumer research; it is not universal legal advice. In the survey fielded in October–November 2024, 56% of surveyed Australian game players said they were unaware that some digital purchases may provide a licence rather than ownership. - An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

What to expect from discs and saved installers
A physical disc or a saved installer can help preserve access to the game files, but neither guarantees that the title will remain playable. A disc may need a patch, compatible hardware, or a server connection; an installer may still have DRM or compatibility dependencies. Neither preserves publisher-run online features. Treat a local copy as one part of access, not proof that every mode will continue working.
