Short answer: Airtel supports sharing a phone’s internet connection through Wi-Fi hotspot, USB tethering and Bluetooth tethering, but the official material reviewed does not clearly confirm whether hotspot traffic qualifies for its Unlimited 5G benefit. Check the current terms for your exact plan or ask Airtel before relying on unlimited tethered use. This applies to Airtel India; offers and plan details may vary by circle and account.
Does Airtel Unlimited 5G work over a hotspot?
The available Airtel material establishes two separate points: the phone can share its internet connection, and some Airtel plans are listed with Unlimited 5G Data. It does not explicitly connect those points by saying that hotspot or tethered traffic is covered by the Unlimited 5G benefit. So the answer is not a confirmed yes or no; eligibility for your plan’s tethered use remains unclear in these sources.

Unlimited 5G listings are plan-specific
Airtel’s prepaid recharge listing displayed plans marked Unlimited 5G Data when accessed on October 7, 2026. Examples shown then included ₹349 with 2 GB per day and 28 days’ validity, and ₹399 with 2.5 GB per day and 28 days’ validity. These are time-sensitive listing examples, not a guarantee that the same plans or terms are available to every customer.

Airtel’s March 17, 2023 launch announcement described the introductory offer as available to postpaid customers and prepaid users with a data plan of ₹239 or above, with a compatible 5G device and coverage in a 5G area. That is historical launch information, not a verified statement of current eligibility. Confirm the current requirements for your account rather than relying on the old threshold.
The 300 GB term is not a stated hotspot cap
Airtel’s prepaid terms, accessed October 7, 2026, describe relevant unlimited-data or daily-data price points as for personal and non-commercial use. They define commercial usage as data beyond 300 GB in 30 days and reserve rights to act in specified commercial-use or fraudulent-use cases. This wording is a commercial-use condition; it does not expressly exclude hotspot traffic or establish a universal 300 GB hotspot allowance for consumers.

How to share your phone’s connection
Airtel’s guide describes three tethering options. Settings names and paths vary across phone models and operating-system versions.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Wi-Fi hotspot
- Open your phone’s hotspot or personal hotspot settings and turn the hotspot on.
- Set or check the network name and password.
- On the laptop or other device, open Wi-Fi settings, select the phone’s network and enter the password.
USB tethering
- Connect the phone to the computer with a USB cable that fits both devices’ ports.
- Open the phone’s tethering or hotspot settings and enable USB tethering.
- If the computer does not recognize the connection, check the device maker’s requirements; Airtel notes that some devices may need specific drivers.
Bluetooth tethering
- Pair the phone and the other device using Bluetooth settings.
- Enable Bluetooth tethering in the phone’s connection-sharing settings.
- Connect to the phone’s network connection from the paired device.
These steps establish a technical connection, not that your particular plan counts that connection as Unlimited 5G use. Airtel’s guide advises checking plan support for tethering.

- 8K gaming, streaming, and video calls
- Multi-gigabit speeds for 64 devices
- Exclusive 6GHz band
- URL filtering, device blocking, LCD passcode
- 5.8Gbps, up to 2,000 sq. ft. coverage
What to check before depending on hotspot data
- Review the current terms for your exact prepaid or postpaid plan and account, including any tethering conditions.
- Ask Airtel specifically whether data used by a laptop or other device over hotspot, USB or Bluetooth tethering qualifies for the Unlimited 5G benefit on that plan.
- Check current 5G eligibility, device compatibility and coverage for your location; do not treat the 2023 launch criteria as today’s full rules.
- If the answer matters for work, travel or a large download, confirm with Airtel first rather than assuming that the word “unlimited” resolves hotspot treatment.
When hotspot may not be the right connection
A mobile hotspot is useful when you need a portable connection and have compatible coverage, but it relies on the phone and mobile network. Airtel’s hotspot-versus-broadband comparison treats broadband as a separate home-connectivity option; it does not answer whether Unlimited 5G covers hotspot use. For a home connection or several devices, compare the service that fits your needs and confirm the mobile plan’s tethering terms if you intend to use the phone as the connection source.
